To quote Walt himself, "Here in Florida, we have something special we never enjoyed at Disneyland...the blessing of size. There's enough land here to hold all the ideas and plans we can possibly imagine."

There is room for CoP and whatever else they may want to put in. This is a classic that should stay!

Michael, the perfect management lemming - go into park, go into gift shops, buy lots of things.

If CoP is so unpopular with "everyone else", as you have said, then why were there at least 50-60 people coming out of it for well over 2 hours straight in early May, when attendance was non-peak? I was near CoP/Buzz/TTA for that time, and the only ride with more people coming out was Buzz. Many people like CoP. You don't (obviously). So it could be replaced by a shooting gallery and it would draw more people, using your argument. But you wouldn't care.

I really don't see the need for posting your opinion over and over and over in a thread. I understand why, you like to try and get a rise out of people. But it gets tiresome quickly. So please, by all means, post your opinion. But do it once. It's ok to have a dissenting viewpoint, but be prepared to back it up with something more than "don't you people understand money?".

To Michael72688 your wrong Walt Didn't said the parks should always be changing.
Walt said the Parks should always be growing. He love COP and hope people could
learn about the pass and present. But it should be updated.Oh I heard that quote
from Walt himself.

"Disneyland is something that will never be finished. Something that I can keep developing, keep plussing and adding to. It's alive. It will be a live, breathing thing that will need change...I wanted something alive, something that could grow, something I could keep plussing with ideas; the park is that. Not only can I add things, but even the trees will keep growing. The things will get more beautiful each year. And as I find out what the public likes and when a picture's finished and I put it out, I find out what the public doesn't like, I can't change it, it's finished, but I can change the park, because it's alive. That is why I wanted that park."

It is a piece of Walt's dream and destroying it would be like they have forgotten who really started wdw...

I'm sorry but if that makes anyone forget who started WDW that is just said. Now dont get me wrong, Walt Disney was an incredible person and if it wasnt for him there might not be theme parks today, but I just think its time for change

Michael, honestly tell us what you don't like about the ride. We need specifics as to why you think this ride deserves to be shuttered.

I think the ride, is very much like SSE, dull and old, and once again I'm sorry(its sad that I feel like I have to apologize for my opinion) but it just doesnt appeal to today's crowd like it once did.

My god I agree with you!

Yes, of course it's dull, that's why we are trying to give it some serious upgrades and updates. The current version 1994 SUCKS compared to not how auidences were marveled by it back in 1964, BUT because the way the show was presented both during 1964 and 1967. The "beautiful tomorrow" theme song is a great song, BUT the way it is currently done sucks, and is a diservice. Disney restored the ride's original song, but did it very cheaply. Hardly a tribute to the 1964 carousel of progress.

I mean the audio and lighting is going shabby, we have both people problems and mechanical problems with the carousel theater, etc. The ride needs a big facelift, but not a permanent closure! You ahve got to understand where the rest of us are coming from. We like the ride for its history and intentions. We don't like the ride because it is being treated with disrespect in the name of Walt Disney himself.

As far as it "doesn't appeal to today's audience", you are right in a sense. Yes AA's have been around since 1963, and there are those who do seek thrills in their lives. I do. I enjoy Universal and Six Flags too, but I also have understanding and respect for educational rides, ESPECIALLY THE ONE DAMN RIDE WALT WANTED SAVED FOREVER.

You see, the ride is in a sucky location, never gets a long line because of 6 theaters than rotate every 4 minutes that take of nearly 300 people, and has poor advertising. The ride and presentation has great potentional. Not everyone hates the ride. People hate rollercoasters, ferris wheels, 3D movies, clowns, what have you. The ride has in fact increased in attendance and popularity because it is open and people are seeing it. It will only do better with a big face lift, NOT a permanent closer.

Come on, Corrus. Walt Disney had nothing to do with 20K, minus the Sub Voyage. :D

(This is in revenge for the chain comment, isn't it? )

PixieDuster. . . I know you're up to something. Whatchu got up your sleeve? ;)

I don't know what else to say, other then, COP should stay. It should be updated a little, with better AA's and maybe the last scene could move more into the future. Heck, put in the house from Horizons, w/the orange blossoms. But don't take this beloved ride away from us. Please?!?

Trust me darling, no one understands theme parks and business much more than me [edit: ok obviously tons of executive know more, but in terms of locals on this messageboard] considering I am earning my degree in Tourism Management. However, even though a theme park must appeal to the masses, if the true loyal fans feel a theme park is no longer holding true to it's legacy it will eventually fail. There is more than enough attractions that are current and cool, Disney is about something for everybody, variety. Variety includes the classics and 65 votes in two days tell me that there is a large audience out there that love the classics.
I am not attacking you for your opinion, I am just saying somethings need to be kept the same for the sake of nostalgia and showing that Disney does care about it's most loyal fans.

My kids (5 and 9) and I were just talking about COP the other day. We were talking about things that we have today that we didn't have when I was growing up (cell phones, playstation etc). I went on to explain to them that there were things I had growing up that my parents didn't have growing up. I told them to think about the COP and how it explains how mankind has progressed. It was nice to be able to use this attraction to help them understand the progression of technology.

Eventhough they have both experienced this attraction in the past, they are especially excited to ride it when we visit WDW in 9 days. :D It will be very sad if they close this attraction permanently. I think my 9yr old is old enough that (if it were to close) he will remember it when he's older, but I don't think my 5yr old will. Needless to say, we love this attraction and would really hate to see it close.
