How much do you work?

For those who work, how many hours a week normally do you spend on the job? What's the most hours you've ever spent working? And how often does that happen? Thanks. I'm just trying to understand what a reasonable work week is in today's world.

Monday-Friday 7:30am-6:00 pm

50 hours a week ( gotta love that overtime:wave: )

I really don't have to be ther till 8, but it's amazing how much you can get done when you don't have alot of distractions, so that initial 30 minutes really gives me a head start on the day.

I could take an hour for lunch, but rarely go over half an hour.

40 hours a week. Company won't let me work overtime. I work from 7:15 till 3:45 with half hour for lunch (which I usually spend at my desk, but chatting here while I eat). The hours are my choice. By coming in early and leaving early I miss a lot of traffic and always get the good parking space. And that first hour or so before anyone else gets there is great for organizing my day.

I'm on the job 24/7. :lookaroun

When I worked as a nurse I worked 40 hour weeks, but did do some overtime when needed. When I worked in a bookstore I also did 40 hour weeks with my shifts ranging anywhere from 8:45 to 10 pm. I later went part time and worked 25hrs/week from 8:45 to 2pm.

The DH works between 50-60 hrs/weeks with mandated overtime and voluntary overtime to cover shifts because of the shortage in nursing.

I run a 4 day rotation, with 2 days off between rotations. I work 2pm-10pm. Occasionally, because of needs, I've been ordered to do a double shift (16 hrs). I've done from 6 am -10 pm and 2 pm - 6 am.

I take you're a police officer. Doesn't working a double shift really put a strain on you. Plus, it's a dangerous job, so working a double should really be hazard pay, shouldn't it ?

Sounds a lot like my husband, only he doesn't have the rotations. He sometimes does 16 hour shifts (voluntary overtime or he has to stay over because someone from the next shift called off). He works the evening shift. He's an Emergency Communications Officer.

I do about 50 hrs a week, but there have been weeks that I've worked 100+ hours due to labor requirements

When I worked at my "normal" job (IT project manager), I worked 40-50 hrs a week. Sometimes I left early and took some of that home. Sometimes I worked at work all weekend. It varied a lot, depending on what was required at the time.

I now have my dream job and I work about 35 hrs a week - or less.

Usually between 37-40hrs a week, 5 days a week. Been doing this type of schedule for the past two-three years now. When I was management I would usually have overtime if we had to do floorsets (which would start at 6am)

I actually would love to do an office-type job....retail is killing me!

Year Round: 3.5 hours per week.

From October to May: Add 12 hours to that 3.5 above. :D

(my numbers are somewhat anomolous... lol )

200 hours per 5 week shift cycle (averages at 40 per week). Plus loads of overtime when I want (or need) to work it - Its the overtime that funds the Disney Trips :D

As a mom, my hours are 24/7. During the school year, I teach pre-school and I'm now a travel agent. I'm lucky in that I work my travel agent job from a home office, so my mom hours and travel agent hours mesh well together.

I usually go in at around 8:30am - 9:00am monday to friday. I work mainly in court these days so I get finished when the court finishes, which really depends on how many cases we have to deal with. I usually manage to leave by around 4:00pm.

I'm really lucky to have the role I do. Many of my friends who do the same job, but in a different setting are working from 7:30am - 6:00pm at the moment for the same salary.

I don't mean to sound patronising, but it depends on the kind of job and the stage in your life you are at. I have done 3 jobs at the same time in the past and worked 80 hour weeks doing shifts at one job, then straight to the next.

But I was younger then and it was all good fun and just about earning some beer money with no real responsibility. Now I am a bit older and looking at investing and buying houses etc. That's why I have a career now rather than a job. When I was 18 (9 years ago), I had about the same amount of money in my pocket as I do now, even though the job I have now requires a university degree and would be considered a 'better' job.

It's very difficult to compare jobs because it depends very much on your own circumstances and needs at the time. And don't ever listen to people who tell you that some jobs are more important than others.
