WDW, and how far do you have to travel?

I go only once per year and travel about 100 miles (we drive...and enjoy the drive down nearly as much as our time at WDW!).

I have friends (both teachers) who go for a week....5 times per year. I have no idea how they are able to afford it. Granted, when we go we stay at the Beach club and I realzie that I could stay much longer if we stayed at a moderate or value resort, but my older kids go crazy after 7 days. My little guy could live there! lol I make an OK living and receive pensions because my firefighter hubby died in the line of duty, but I still can't afford to go more than once per year.

I once read an article abouit how kids are spoiled today and they mentioned in particular that WDW used to be a once or a twice in a lifetime trip...now it's two to three times per year!

How do people afford so many trips?

We are not able to go more than once a year. We got married in 2003 and went that year, and 2004 and 2005 (all off property), but we had to skip last year, because the wife got pregnant and was due in the month that we would have gone. So all the money and vacation time had to be used for that. And we travel about 1,000 miles to get there.

We afford it by having extra witholding taken out of our paychecks, such that we get a nice big tax refund.

Sorry to hear about your husband. :(

Hey beachclubbasics, do you know of a shortcut from New Jersey that only 100 miles from WDW ?

For me, it ends up being once every THREE years. I know, it kinda sucks, but at least there's a buildup in anticipation for each trip and internet videos to tide me over until then.

Not been for two and a half years.

However I last made three trips from the UK in the space of 12 Months by getting late deals on flight and off-site hotels that came to the same as two nights at say Animal Kingdom Lodge. I bought an annual pass that gave free parking and meant that I had to pay no more to get in on the following two trips.

At the very least once a year fo our DD B'day in July. The last three years it's been January, July and October. I hope that trend continues. :)

We have been 7 times in the last 2 1/2 years. The distance has varied, as we lived in Canada for part of the period, and then NC, and then VA.

Disney is our big expenditure. We live well within our means, and take nice vacations. All of our trips have been with annual passes. Believe it or not, we actually didn't go for a 12 months during the period, as the DW was pregnant with our 2nd child.

This year we are going April and September.

We were on a track of going every year, then it died out. We went last summer and we will back in April (49 days!). I guess it truely depends on what else we want to do, we've just been extra Disney lately.

We are from New Jersey and we go once a year. We used to go durning the summer months but now we go in early December because the weather is nice, crowds are manageable, and we love the holiday season at the World.:xmas: We book our trip in January so we have all year to look forward to our vacation and we pay on it all year so we don't have to worry about a big vacation bill when we return. I would like to be able to go more than once a year, but I am very grateful that we can afford to go at all. This year is our longest trip to the World - 9 nights & 10 days :sohappy:

Hi, Cinderella1976

Just a question that maybe others are also asking- Couldn't you go more often if you didn't stay at the Grand Floridian?

I would love to stay at the GF by the way. We now do as you do and go during December when the Christmas decorations are up. The ginger bread house at the Grand Floridian is amazing.

Have fun.

We go once, twice, and sometimes 3 times a year, depending on if we get an annual pass or not.

We are about 1000 Miles from the magic.

Our Disney vacations are the only vacations we take, so we save all our money up and always stay at a Deluxe resort. Yes, I suppose we could go more often if we chose to stay at a value resort, but we like staying at the monorail resorts for the convieniance and the closeness to The Magic Kingdom. We're not wealthy by any means, but we save our change, and use tax refunds and job bonuses to splurge for the deluxe resorts.

Next Trip....Our 15th Wedding anniversary trip...May...8 Nights at the Polynesian Concierge...Hawaii longhouse, Castle view!:sohappy:

I travel 50 minutes, about 60 miles.
From the Space Coast.

I go either with friends or family, and sometimes even by myself (I dont recommend that). Average would be about 20 times a year.
