How long of a boad ride from Port orleans to downtown disney

I believe it was about 30 minutes to DTD and the boats ran until around 11 pm. After that time, you can catch the bus back on the West Side @ DTD.

That sounds about right. And it is a must do. We do this at least once on every trip. On our next trip in Jan. we are staying at the Polynesian rather than POR but plan on going to POR one night to take the boat down. It is a real nice time. :)

I love the boat ride - it's sooo much nicer than taking the bus!!!!

Unfortunately, lots of other people already know this. Be prepared for a wait. I've waited close to an hour on a non-peak weekend. Hope it's shorter for you.

A good trick is to go at dinner time. A lot of the other POR guests will be busy eating and you can hop the boat. We always make it on the first boat. We do go to WDW on non-peak times though and go to DTD durring the week.

Gosh, I have never had to wait at Riverside longer than 15 minutes to get on the boat. That is during February, September or October, though. I did notice the crowd at DTD to return to Riverside can get pretty large. Therefore, we always take the bus back. :)

Yeah, if you wait until the end of the evening it can get packed coming back. Last trip with our daughte being so young we came back kind of early so the boat wasn't even full. This was in Feb.

I stayed a pofq twice and the boat ride couldn't have been more than 10-15 minutes. We loved that aspect of the resort because it is so easy to get over there for meals or shopping.

Yeah, I would say about 20 min from Riverside and about 15 from French Quarter. I have stayed at Port Orleans about half of my overall 50 trips to Disney. It is a must. Very romantic!!

Beware of Port Orleans thunderstorms!!!!!
Last July, we were planning on going to Downtown Disney on the Sassagoula Riverboat, but we were informed that there was lightning in the area. No clouds for as far as the eye could see, but the boats were shut down. The worst part of this was, a Downtown Disney bus didn't come until one and a half hours later!
This whole time, not a single wisp of white was spotted in the skies, but every half hour, we checked if the boats were running. They weren't. Anyways, if the boats are closed, make other plans.

The boat goes from POR to POFQ before it goes down to DTD. It makes it a little longer because they need to dock unload, load, etc.

I still think it is closer to the 30 min from POR with all the stopping.

As others have already said, it a fun little cruise, and as always, the pilots are nice and friendly. I will add that we've always ridden the boat in June with little to no wait whatsoever, leaving from the dock at Riverside, but it was indeed around dinner time. On your journey, for you longtime WDW fans, don't forget to keep a lookout for the Treehouse Villas, on your left on your way to DTD. I believe they are still used, but I believe only for VIPs.

I don't think they are still used now, but we were on the boat early this year and the skipper said something about them being used again soon. I did not catch it all because I was playing with my 3 year old.

Awww! :p hehe Anyway, that's what they said in 2002, but they are getting old so I wouldn't be surprised if they stopped using them. At least they are a bit of nostalgia still there (for now). They remind me of another stop on the jungle cruise. I'm weird though. ;)

I stayed in one back in the early 1980s. We had usually stayed at the Polynesian as a family but my parents had separated and we went with my father and his girlfriend and I think that so we would not be so weirded out he got the treehouse because we could sleep in a separate room. Anyway, I really did not like it as I missed the whole Poly theme and the monorail access. Maybe if I had not stayed at the Poly first I would have liked it but at the time you had to drive, no buses. At least I think no buses, we drove from the treehouse to the parks.

How long of a boat ride is it from port Orleans Riverside to Downtown Disney Area and how late does the boat run till?

Like everyone else said about 30 minutes. They do a lot of talking and waiting for the other boats to pass. Word of warning.... if you take the boat in late fall or winter and its cold outside wear something warm. The winds are really cold when they get going.

Last time we rode the boat to DTD from POFQ, I'm pretty sure the skipper said the Treehouse Villas had at one time become part of the Disney Institute, and that now they were going to be renovated and reopened as part of Saratoga Springs. Has anyone else heard that?

Yeah I heard something to that effect as well. I don't remember them saying that it was going to be part of Saratoga but I do remember the skip saying that they were going to fix them up and re-open once again.
