How does one start a competition thread?

It worked perfectly.

Exactly, what is the point of asking for help on a project if you already have it completed. I'll be frank, most people will not get too excited about helping out if you don't really want their input. I have learned that from first hand experience.

I do want their input. Trouble is, I can't always be sure of getting it.

The trouble is, sometimes people do provide input, but you shoot them down if it isn't something you would do.

The reason I reject them is because I fear they will take my ideas in a different direction than what I had intended. When I seek input, I usually would like it to try and fit inside my basic idea.

We'll be posting a calendar template on the thread soon, showing times when people are already planning comps and when not to have them.
I'd like to add to this: These times are just guidelines, and you don't have to abide by them by any means. This is not our site, and we're not trying to make the rules.

The ICS doesn't want to take control over the Imagineering forum. We just want to create a way where people can plan ahead of time to space out their competitions and get the greatest number of competitors to participate.

I get that you want to keep your ideas yours, but then you can't complain when people don't participate. 99.9% are on here to have fun contribute as we know how. From what I can tell, you're looking for people to tell you how great your ideas are, not to contribute to a concept.

So what you're saying is if I want them to contribute, then I must be allowed to accept that my ideas may be taken in a totally different direction than I had intended?

Pretty much.

Well, here's an example of what I would like help with, improvements for Mickey's Startown: http://forums.wdwmagic.com/threads/...dhs-with-an-actual-but-tentative-name.886909/. Now, I have done a few things by myself, but it just seems incomplete. I couldn't think of any names for, say, the Donald-theme plane ride. Or the possible meet-n-greet location for Snow White and Pinocchio characters. Also I keep agonizing over, of all things, the background music for this. I ask questions because I need help, not necessarily because I seek praise.

Brother, you're contradicting yourself. You say you want help, but you're unwilling to see your project go in any direction other than the one you see fit. Theres nothing wrong with having your own concept, but when you bring others in the concept is bound to change. It's part of it. Don't think I'm trying to call you out, because I'm not. I'm just trying to say that you can't say you want help but not be willing to relinquish some control.

I have no fish to fry in this thread, but it keeps popping up so I read the thing. It appears that mharrington simply is asking for specific help on certain aspects of his concept. He isn't asking for others to change his concept. He simply wants help fleshing out what he has already come up with.

Right, but when people aren't interested he gets upset and complains. The members here like the Blue Sky process more than the nitty gritty, IMO.

Perhaps so. And perhaps he should have put it in another thread. BUT...either help him or not.

It just seems non-productive to try and derail his project with what has become the status quo around here.

It's not being derailed, since this thread is separate from his project and was started specifically for the purpose of asking why no one helped him out.
So the nitty gritty has no place whatsoever in Imagineering?
It does, of course. But it's the part that takes the most time, and with most of us being so busy in real life, you can see why we wouldn't want to jump into a new project.

I was reading through the beginning of this thread and came across this discussion. I think a good solution would be to edit the original post in the competition thread with links to every challenge posted since.

I was told that it's better to have one discussion thread, because one each project was too confusing.
