How does MouseSurplus get their merchandise?

Just wondering if anyone could answer this question for me. They always seem to have some great Disney treasure!

I think some of it comes from Property Control, also when DLR had a auction private and then public I know they bought half of each of the 5 crowns that sat on SBC during the 50th, and later cut a few of them and sold them on their site.

I was so unimpressed with their shop when I went back in March. Sure they had a few neat things but mostly just old junk. It also is out in middle of nowhere!

It depends on what the stuff is. Some would probably come from property control. Other stuff, like items from demoed attractions, or old hotel room furniture, they may let em have it for cheap if they clear it out. So instead of Disney paying someone to come in and haul all the beds/dressers out of a wing of the hotel, or paying someone to desconstruct part of a ride, these guys come in and do it, and then sell the stuff to make back their costs. This happens fairly often with demo companies, so I imagine it may also apply here.

I always assumed it was after-hours theft?

In all seriousness, I agree with the second part of your answer, but not the first. I think a lot of the stuff is in the same vein as what you'd see at Property Control, but I think they likely purchase it in a bulk transaction from a Disney agent. I don't think they have people going in and buying bags and bags of junk at Property Control. Disney would certainly wise up to that very quickly, and shut the operation down (as has been done with some eBay sellers who do that).

OMG, I did not know about this site. There are a few neat things on the site, like the GMC jeep prop from the AK, only 3K, now the question is does it run? Or is it just that a prop?

God bless the "Ignore" button.

If I'm not mistaken, they recently changed owners (something that, according to a Jim Hill article, was along the lines of Walt getting screwed out of Oswald). That may have something to do with it.

A bulk type purchase is very possible. I have noticed the assorted surplus resellers are most now also selling things at almost cost, pins, shirts and the like, where before they used to be more old park surplus. Unless that much merch isn't selling that they don't want to dump it all to the outlet stores....

In years past I have seen several things on their site of interest. While I never purchased anything it was usually the high price of shipping, they did have some great items.

No I did not see the plane.

I need to go back and look through our pictures becasue I think I have a pic of us in 2005 or 2006 standing in front of that Jeep. I guess for someone that wants to collect and put work into putting an engine in it would be a ok to buy something like this.

I do like some of the resort decorations as far as furniture.

It used to be a partnership. Then the main guy that people knew and was good folk - Brian - got ousted somehow in a really underhanded way. Brian was the one who provided me the blueprints for MILF that I posted when everyone was trying to figure out what was going in that spot.

Anyway...for awhile, Brian was going to run Surplus Kingdom to continue his business and to try and rebuild from the loss of his original business. I have no idea what happened but the website and ebay id for Surplus Kingdom are now defunct.

Meanwhile, Mouse Surplus moved to a new location - waaaaaaay out into the middle of nowhere, Haines City - and have been operating without Brian's contributions.

They used to be the ones who were contracted to go in and demo out hotel rooms or old attractions or whatever and they got to keep the salvage items. I don't know how much they're actively doing these days as the merchandise availability just keeps getting smaller and smaller. (We were just there last weekend and the warehouse was practically empty. Very little furniture left and almost nothing of real interest or value.)

I suppose they can only offer what they can obtain from Disney but it seems like lately, they're not obtaining much. Sadly, the offerings they had were much better back in the day when Brian was still at the helm. I never met him, but I chatted with him in email a few times about items and he was always very knowledgeable, friendly and enthusiastic about the merchandise.

I purchased a large mirror from the Polynesian from them about 4 years ago. At that time the shipping was really reasonable and it's a great conversation piece. I would purchase more furniture but the shipping costs are outrageous now.

The plane is funny because it's literally gutted on the inside. There's nothing in it at all. It's sitting outside under an overhang outside the building.
