How do you pass the time on your way to Disney?

WondersOfLife

Blink, blink. Breathe, breathe. Day in, day out.
For me it's a 9 hour drive...

Its become a tradition that before we pack up the van we stop at Toys R Us and our eldest daughter gets a new Princess doll or some sort of toy and our son gets a Mickey toy. Our youngest daughter got Minnie Mouse clothes for her first trip. So that kepts them happy for the ride. If that fails we put a Disney movie into the DVD player. A new favortive with them are Disney Sing Along VHS (remember those?). They love them.

Various modes equal various strategies:
Driving- 12 hours from Va all the way from 58 to emporia then 95 south- usually count all the south of the border signs! This is our stop and stretch it out,let the dog walk around and if we have time go up in the Sambraro ( I think I mispelled that)...Stop in SC for gas and then again in south Ga or North Fl..If we stop in Ga we always seem to stop and look at the biggest gator...If we stop on Fl its usually the visitor center

Plane- from PHF or MCO.. it's only a two hour flight...not long enough to really get into anything good but Long enough nun the less!

Train- from Newport News...its a looooong train ride...I usually sleep and try to watch movies on my laptop..visit the club car, eat, sleep, eat...snack...sleep and BOOM! (this is the train that stops and go..stop and go)
Now I have been on the autotrain for the way down..man that was nice...sit and relax, sleep and eat... watch a movie in the snack car and wake up the next am one hour away!

We always fly and from Pittsburgh it's only about 2 hours. When we get to the resort, which I love to get there super early (start to the vacation) and grab a bite to eat. On the plane I usually try sleep (too excited to sleep!) read or listen to Disney music (Soarin' loop is fantastic when going through the clouds!)

On the way home...I never listen to Disney music. Too depressing!

20 min drive to the airport and a 2 hour flight goes quickly but it’s getting more expensive to fly; we are thinking of driving when we go in Nov but not sure we are up for an 15 hour drive followed by 10 days at WDW to end with a 15 hour drive home - we would need to take a vacation when we got home to recover from our vacation - LOL. :p

So, is $500.00 for airfare worth saving 30 hours in the car not to mention what gas prices may be in Nov plus all of the pit stops along the way??????

Well in my case I suppose I pass it by staring ahead at endless interstate like a zombie for 15 hours...while my custom Disney/Disney World soundtrack plays of course
Except for a little bit in Mobile and until you start seeing orange groves, it all looks just like I-49!!:snore::snore: I read Hidden Mickey, Creating the Magic, Unofficial Guide to WDW and Imagineers Guides aloud to my husband to keep both of us semi-awake:lookaroun

It takes us 2.5 hours by plane. My dad and I made a tradition of playing UNO all the way down. On the way back we're sad and don't really care lol

not at all my parents drive 20 hours and it costs them around the same thing it costs me to fly they dont stop at all though. That is just for gas! and I think when they went in december it cost them 567.00 for gas and 70.00 for drinks etc from gas stations / rest stops.

For the last 6 years my sister and I fly down from Baltimore to watch the Arnold Palmer golf tournament, Thursday - Sunday. We plan our trip on the plane ride down. We don't know when our favorite golfers are going to tee of until Tuesday so on our way down Wednesday we plan which golfers we want to see Thursday & Friday and which attractions/rides we want to hit those nights. If our schedule fits with our ADR fine if not we cancel. Sounds crazy to those of you who plan every hour of you vacation but it works for us. What ever we don't see this time we get next time.

Well, the answer last time was "split driving time in the RV with my wife". Non driving time was spent amusing the daughters. They're always belted in, but found it quite amusing that mom and dad could make them sandwiches and fetch other games while we moved.

Unfortunately...during the last trip, DW decided we needed more room than the RV was giving us. I let her shop without adult supervision. Knew I was in truoble when she said "You're gonna need a bigger truck..."

Now I'm pulling the 40' toyhauler to Fort Wilderness. She won't have any part of pulling it, says it scares her. The thought of that scares me, too!

What will I be doing? Driving, and watching the monstrosity of a trailer behind me. :lookaroun Please don't pass on my right...I can't see a thing over there!

If you see a Chevy 3500 dually pulling a trailer the size of a small house with a big Musket Mickey on the back door, beep and wave...that's us!!

See ya at the Fort, this June and July!!! :sohappy:
