How Do You Like the 50's Prime Time Cafe @ MGM?

Anyone been in there and ate? Surprisingly, with all the years I've gone to MGM, I haven't ate there. How do you like the theme of the restaurant? The atmosphere? What about the food?

Also, do you like it more or less than the Sci-Fi Cafe, and why? Thanks.

The Atmosphere in the Prime Time is great! It's one if not the best on Disney property. I'm assuming you know the drill there, if not just ask and someone will explain it to you. The food there is average. They really don't have a big selection, and what they have is good, just not amazing. (you go to world showcase or AK for amazing) its just down home, comfort food.
Of course, if you go, you HAVE TO get the Giant S'more. It's to die for.

The food in the Sci Fi was not so great. I only ate there once and might have had a bad experience, but it was bad enough to not warrant another visit. The atmosphere in there was cool though.

Final Score....Go to prime time....so much fun and good smores.:slurp:

Oh, it is so much fun! We had Uncle Dale as a waiter, what a hoot! He had "the keys to dad's liquor cabinet." They really get into character. It was one of our favorite Disney experiences!

This is my favorite resturant in WDW. It has the best Pot Roast I have ever eaten in my life and it also has the best onion rings I have ever had. Yes the atmosphere is great but so is the food.

Atmosphere is definitely A+. The cars with the tables in them are just too cute. And even the tables near the back that aren't in cars look like the kind of tables you'd see at a drive-in from that era.

Food is nothing special. Pricey for that type of restaurant. I give it a B-. Whatever you do, do not order hot chocolate there. I went in December and it was cold and rainy. I ordered hot chocolate and it was the kind you just add hot water to powder mix. Yuck!!

Prime Time is great!! The atmosphere was awesome. We had Cousin Vinney (sp?) as our server, he was hilarious and very nice (noticed I was having a bad day and cheered me up). I also saw him feeding someone who didn't finish their meal with the good ol' "Here comes the choo-choo train" . I definately recommend it. Though, I wasn't too keen on the food, but I was also much more picky back then than I am now

Lots of people really like this one, we went (okay so it was probably 12-13 years ago....whenever mgm first opened) and let me tell you..waaaay back then, we didn't like it! As a young adult, I didn't find the annoying waitress funny and she MADE me eat my peas and they weren't good AT ALL. She would NOT give us the check until she watched me eat them. I guess I hadn't quite reached that autonomous stage. Anyway, we didn't like our food and she was really annoying about it. Haven't ever been back in 8 trips!

Hi there Pac, This is one of the must do for my group anytime we are down there. The waiters and waitresses really do get into the part as your cousin, brother, Mom whatever. They make sure that you eat all your veggies and clean your plate!!! The selection of food is good and all of the options are very good. My personal favorites are the Shrimp Penne Pasta with artichoke hearts, kalamata olives and chopped tomatoes in an herb butter sauce, or the pork tenderloin with the stuffed mashed potatoes ( cheddar cheese and bacon bitys in there) and the apple raisin chutney!!! YUM!!!!!!! As mentioned before the desserts are awesome!!! You wont regret it!! Belle

I go there for the giant s'mores. They are awesome!

As for the waiters/waitresses getting into their roles... well, on one of our trips, they got into it a little too much and went a bit overboard with one of the people in our party. This lady was not feeling well and the waiter was being very pushy about her eating her veggies. This was just one bad experience out of many good experiences at the Prime-Time.

But for the most part, it's usually a fun time for us all! And we manage to go back every time... at least there's the s'mores!

Both restaurants are awsome... and a really hard choice.

And I love the food from both!!!

But the atmosphere.....

At 50's Prime time, last time I came, the waitress was praising me because I wipped my plate clean!!

And at the Sci-fi Dine in, the only way it could be better is if it played some old B-movies or played episodes of Mystery Science Theatre 3000.

The Sci-Fi is great. The food is ok to pretty good depending upon what you get. There is nothing like sitting in an old car with drive-in movie speakers and watching old sci-fi movie clips. Brings back the old days of the drive in theatres.

The Prime Time probably has better food. More home cooking style. The first time we went it was great. They made my son stand in the corner for playing with his food and everyone had to chastise him. He loved it. We have been back 2 times since then, but both waitresses we had did nothing. They did not bug us about cleaning our plates, or anything. They were just regular waitresses like other places. We felt kind of left out because everyone with different waitresses/waiters around us were getting bugged and having a great time. This happened to us the last 2 times. We will probably go there again, I hope we get a good waitress/waiter because that is over half the fun.

Either restaurant can be a very fun experience.

I was thinking the same thing. You either get it mixed by hand from a pouch or by a machine... but it's all powder-to-liquid.

It is my FAVORITE restaurant, and I've been to a lot of them. The food isn't fabulous, but not terrible either. The atmosphere is WONDERFUL! I highly reccommend the s'mores dessert! That is sooooooooooooooooo good. :)

I would agree that 50's Prime Time is something you have to experience. The food is generally above average, but you go for the cast interaction. With that it will vary on chemistry and the server. Sometimes they pick up on the stiffest or most dizzy and they often work best. Also, larger groups (4+) seem to do best. But, I feel you have to try it a few times, cause like the Jungle Cruise, the same jokes just don't work coming from some people.

Sci Fi is also fun, best I think for lunch for a burger or sandwich. Some waiters get into it much more as well and can add greatly to the experience.

Um....okay, I was thinking of the kind I've usually had or make myself like this

1 qt. (4 cups) milk

1 pkg. (4 oz.) BAKER'S GERMAN'S Sweet Chocolate, finely chopped

1/2 tsp. ground cinnamon

JET-PUFFED Miniature Marshmallows (optional)

But yes, I guess it's easier to make hot chocolate with just water and powdered chocolate.

The Prime Time Cafe is a MUST do for my family every year when we go. We absolutely love it, from the food to the atmosphere, and the service. The whole speil that the servers is pretty cool, but they tend to carry on a lil bit. I always get yelled at for wearing my hat at the table.
