How can resort be unavailable a year ahead of time?

Just went on DW website to look for dates next June. Planning to take my daughter and her friend for a high school graduation trip. Looked at Yacht club and said resort unavailable. Is it because it's next June? Hard to believe that there wouldn't be any rooms available??:(

Back in April 2009, when I was booking our 2010 trip, I initially booked it for Caribbean Beach Resort and even a year out, they told me that the only rooms available were Pirate Rooms. I find it hard to believe that it would be that full that far out, so I wonder if the CM gave me wrong info or something.

And I don't think it has anything to do with packages not being available until July 10. Because room only rates are already available for 2014 and we can already book a resort for next year as a room only. And even before the next year's rates are released, you can STILL book for the following year. Instead of paying a deposit of the first night's room rate (since room rates are not yet available), they just charge a flat $200 deposit, which holds you the room until official rates ARE released.

So I find it hard to believe that the resort is actually full this far out, but I find it even harder to believe that it has anything to do with July 10 or package rates. Maybe it has something to do with the online system vs calling the phone number.

Try calling. I have always booked our trips eleven or twelve months in advance. We have always gone in April and I have always booked our resort for "next year" in March, April or May. We are going in June next year and I just called yesterday to inquire how much it will be. Even though I have chosen not to book it just yet, I was still asked if I wanted to book it. I even called a couple months ago to inquire about other resorts for the same dates and was asked if I wanted to book at that time, but I declined. So even a couple months ago,I still had the opportunity to book for next June over the phone.

You can book a room only over the phone, the package rates will not be out until July 10th, at that time you should be able to book for the entire year of 2014. So if you call they can at least tell you what your room would cost and book a room only and add tickets later, just not a package deal.

OK thanks for the information, hoping to make this a special trip. Have gone through a lot this past year, both my daughter and I. So hopefully this coming year will be a good one with a trip to DW in June capping it off.

I sometimes find a difference between online information and telephone information. Perhaps a call would be in order.

Unfortunately their online system isn't the best. Like rsoxguy said, call. I've called when I couldn't get a hotel or dinner reservation and was able to get it. Keep in mind that there may be a convention at the hotel and it may be booked. I believe Gay Pride weekend is also in June. If you are going the same weekend it might be that, that hotel was chosen by the organizers and is sold out. Either way call.

You should be able to book packages online this Wednesday. That's when we are booking for January. I know a lot of people like to book the room and come back later and get the discounts and tickets but there will be rooms available and I would rather do it all together to keep confusion down.

While true, these rates that you book before July 10 are not finalized, if you book a room only before July 10, the room cost is an estimate and will be adjusted once the finalized rates are released.

You can also only book 499 days in advance.

Not saying anything is wrong with it but I just don't see why you would want to book 499 ahead. A whole lot can happen in life and also there is no need when you can book so much closer.

It's only a $200 deposit for a package - or a single night's room cost w/ tax for room only.

Its not about the cost in case you have to cancel. Its just a long freaking time until the trip if you book that far out. I think 6 months out is usually pretty good. Heck my dad goes twice a year and they usually book week long trips the week before they leave. Of course, they go a lot so they don't really need the time to plan because they know the place so well.
