Well considering we just got 4+ inches dumped on us today, I'd say WDW's been doing pretty well lately as far as rain goes. In the past week it's rained 3 or 4 days.

There was a HUGE storm today with rain and hail and wind! So drought is not anything to worry about.
One rainstorm isn't going to do squat. The Hillsborough River which provides the water for the Tampa Bay Area is EIGHT FEET - not eight inches, but feet - low. It's our main aquifer.

Drought is a problem. You won't really notice is at WDW because they have the money to pay the fees to avoid watering restrictions or to work around them. But it is a problem in 80% of the state. Even sadder, Florida isn't the worst. Much of the South is dealing with drought conditions right now.

Hurricane season (which started on June 1st with Tropical Storm Barry) will help if we get storms through to deliver rain. It'll take awhile though before we can hope to get back to normal levels across the entire state. (And, hopefully, region as well.)

Exactly. Just because we get dumped with some rain on one day does not relieve our drought conditions. Give us 4 inches of rain a day for about a month and we'll be doing good. It's a serious thing across the state right now and no restrictions have been lifted because we've had a few thunderstorms move through the area last week.

I had read in an article that an official said that they need at least 30 to 40 inches of rain to be out of a drought. The one thing about Disney is they recycle alot of water, and they have a huge system to catch water from everywhere. For instance SSE catches water from rain and channels it to World Showcase Lagoon. And a number of times I've seen small trucks with tanks of water, (non potable of course), watering the potted plants so nothing is wasted, and a real good idea was at MGM by the bus stops the big potted plants have their own watering system.

Just because we've started getting rain, doesn't mean things are suddenly all perfect. The WDW area encompasses two water management districts. Here's the info for both:

Weekly Drought Summary
June 26, 2007 – July 3, 2007
Statewide – Overall conditions remained about the same as last week. More details are provided below.
SJRWMD
Conditions – Water levels in some lakes and monitoring wells remain below average, but are still above historic lows.
Changes from last week – Water levels in lakes and wells declined slightly.

SWFWMD
Conditions – Most of the District is experiencing “abnormally dry” to “moderate” drought conditions. Charlotte County and a portion of DeSoto County are still experiencing "severe" drought conditions.
- A modified Phase II Water Shortage order remains in effect, which calls for a 5% reduction in water use and limits outdoor watering to 1 day/week at specified times that have a shorter duration than the year-round conservation measures.
This is taken from the most current Drought Conditions Weekly report found here. You can keep up with the reports themselves here.

It's getting better in about half the state, but the other half is still having problems. Droughts don't disappear overnight.

I'm sitting here right now at the Magic Kingdom and it's POURING. There really isn't much of a drought anymore just because it's starting to get into that rainy season. It's the way it is every year, it's dry for the first half of the summer, and then it pours every day for the second half.

When we were there the week of July 4th, the weather channel showed only a trace for July. But by the time we left they were at over 3 inches and we were there just for the week, so at least for WDW there is no drought. In fact our building was hit by lighting while we were there and reedy creek was there in less than 5 minutes.

I am in the College Program. There isn't a drought at Chatham Square, they water the grass every frikken day, even during the middle of the day and with broken sprinkler heads.

Something one would never see in West Texas. If water touches the road or if a sprinkler is broken... $600.
