Which is why it’s not working…nor should.

Disney wants a low wage structure that was blown apart by covid…and you can’t really reset that dial. Now they’ll need to increase to just keep pace with the rising cost of necessities.
Yep. They haven't budged in the last year and a half, hoping the labor market would equalize. Just keep holding the line another few months...

And I know he is a convenient boogeyman, but I do think this is Chapek's doing. After all, he famously scapped entertainment cast, instead forcing frontline CM's into "entertainment" duties. And with his extreme emphasis on the profitability of the parks, you also know he's doing everything he can to keep those profit margins up by keeping labor costs down. After all, they fired tens of thousands at the start of the pandemic and, I believe, instituted the reservation and park hopping restrictions to keep staffing down to a bare minimum.

There is no “equalization”…you can’t drop people to a pre-determined in a 2016 PR announcement $14 to make 10,000 eggs an hour in the kitchen at Crystal palace when Comcast will pay them $18 to restock the Pepsi case at minion gift shop at USO…

This is an in peril management regime that is delusional.

They’re gonna get blown out by a recession anyway. No $7 trillion to stop that this time.

It's Chapek's park. You can have both. Disney PreCheck and Disney PreCheck+.

Disney PreCheck costs you money and it merely gives you recommended times to get in line (e.g. Arrive at 8:45 PM for your best line experience!), while the + version, for a higher charge, provides that extra Disney magic by assigning you a time to get in line (e.g. Arrive at 7:00 PM and be guaranteed a wait no longer than 60 minutes!).
I shouldn’t be laughing to the point of tears at this…but I am.

It’s just such a sad day in the United States…I need this. Thanks

That’s funny because every time I call the Magic back, they put me on hold for 5 hours. I love the hold music but I shouldn’t be able to memorize the order of the songs for the entire loop, yet here we are and here I am, burdened with this knowledge.

Answer the damn call!

I get annoyed that I keep interrupting the hold music with that computer voice. I really should get rid of that. After all - I ARE THE MAGIC!!! And the magic is calling. So... I'm... calling? Now more than ever? Ummm... what were we talking about?

It's time to remember the magic. Which means 'Remember Me'! Coco! SYNERGY!!!! Can I has Bob's job now, pleeze?

WDW has better intelligence than folks think.
I suspect the are acting on some intelligence.
I think the capabilities of WDW security are highly overestimated by people and are mostly a myth. Any intelligence about a credible threat would come from the FBI or other law enforcement and be passed along to WDW security.

Growing up I always heard stories about their surveillance camera system being so extensive and advanced that they saw everything that was happening in every square inch of the parks. The technology for such a system didn't even exist in the 80's and 90's when those rumors were around.

While it would be possible with current technology, they would never spend the money on that kind of system and with integrated AI to highlight potential issues (it's been shown that people monitoring for more than a few minutes lose their ability to spot things) because there's almost no ROI. Look at how many cameras it takes to cover a casino and extrapolate that to the area of even the smallest park.

Why didn't they open up a few more lanes?
Because MONEY.
But your point was that they likely had credible intel. Isn't that the one time they should open a few more lanes? As cynical as I am about Disney and their penny pinching ways, if some credible threat was behind this, I think even they would open the purse strings to get people moving through there faster.

You’re right, there should have been more lanes opened in any event. That would most definitely improved the guests experience. HA! I said “improve guest experience”, that’s funny…

This has gotten really dumb…

There is unsubstantiated “inference” here that Mickey guards were somehow performing a “joint operation” with the fbi…like Jack Ryan type stuff…

When they were just not staffed properly, the managers fell asleep at the switch, and couldn’t handle the push…
Which has been happening on practically every square inch of that compound across the board for a year due to improper management and staffing.

Not secret plots or rocket science here.

Well, if someone reminded Bob/Josh/Jeff that people waiting outside for the security check aren't inside spending money, I'm sure they'd reconsider.

- understaffed since fall ‘20
- refuse to give raises to bring back fired staff
- security is not a profit driver
- no other “heightened measures” obvious elsewhere, nor an increased overall presence suggesting vague/specific WDW targets
- no leaks in recent days

Occam’s razor suggests a sick call in or two put them in a pinch when they’re already working on a reduced / understaffed work force as is.
