I just went, and I stayed off property for the first time ever. I had my own car, and honestly, I had a fun time. I paid an internet rate of $59 a nite for an executive suite with a lake view. It was great. There are your usual Super 8's and stuff off property with $30/nite rooms. Most will also have free continental breakfasts and complimentary shuttle service to the theme parks. Bad part is that you're on their schedule. Having moved to Florida personally, I do day trips now, but I also have my membership to the Vacation Club, and I stay for a week or 5 days at the Boardwalk. Check with the Disney Vacation Club... members always have points for rent there.

If you really want to have that Disney magic, stay somewhere like the GF or AKL. Unfortunately, the only hotels that you really feel that magic are the deluxes. I too have had bad experiences with Disney hotels.

I think the best place to stay @ to get that Walt Disney World feeling would have to be The Polynesian Resort becuase you can clearly see the Magic Kingdom and its one of the original Resorts in WDW.

Poly, GF, Wilderness Lodge are the MK resorts that I would suggest. The Contemporary is good also, but only if you can manage a Tower Room. Wait, that's all the MK resorts.

For Epcot, The Yacht and Beach club resorts, and the Boardwalk is a good choice also.

Old Key West is very laid back, and it is a DVC resort.

For the moderates, Coronado Springs has gotten the best reviews that I have heard.

The Downtown Disney hotels are not too bad. I have stayed in them all. The best is, obviously, the Hilton. DoubleTree (formerly the Guest Quarters and Pickett Suites before that) is all suites and is another good choice.

The Carribean rooms were quite tiny for a family of 4. 6 of us stayed there once in 2 rooms and after 2 nights we switched to the Contemporary.

While I agree that the deluxe hotels have great theming, Port Orleans Riverside and French Quarter do too! When you don't have a lot of money to spend and you want that Disney magic 24/7, stay at a moderate. It's worth it!

I'd love to stay at the Poly, or better yet the Contemporary (tower room, MK view, natch! :D ) Unfortunately my pocketbook can't afford that much magic! As for the moderates, I really like the theming of either PO (more pleased the 1st time than the 2nd - cleaning issues) or the Bayou section of DL...Ya'll will have to pardon me - I get soooo confused with the new names, so I just use the old school ones! :)

Not a problem. I would rather call Dixie Landings, Dixie Landings instead of POR. I do have a lot of discount codes that I use for my customers so that they can get a discounted room or package fi they don't already have a room booked. There are many ways to save.

I charge only $25 per day of stay for the itinerary. I do no charge extra to find a discounted room. ( It's just an extra perk that I do for customers) I like to get as much time as possible. But I have found deals as close as 3 weeks from the day of arrival. Keep in mind that I am not a travel agent. But I do have some good connections. Right now you can get 40% off of most hotel only reservations. (not all hotels participate)
Sometimes I can find great deals, sometimes nothing at all. It depends on availability.
I do have discounted tickets on my website also, for many Orlando attractions including WDW. A lot of these prices are better than the Disney club discounts.

Thanks for the 411! Have you even considered just charging a fee for your deal-finding serivices? I'm not good at all with itineraries...those would involve me following some type of schedule, which I'm very bad at! :)
