Hotel Parking Fees Realization / Tip

I stayed at the Dolphin earlier this year. Pulled a ticket at the entrance, parked, and brought my luggage inside. They asked if I had a car and I said yes and they told me I could use the room key to exit the lot. I did not move the car the entire stay, was not asked for a description of it, and was not given any pass to put in my windshield. Check out day comes and surprise, surprise, the exit gate is up and I don't even need to use my key to exit.
I don’t think the Dolphin is a Disney hotel though.

Okay, but that experience completely counters your earlier statement in that if people want to save money all they have to do is say at check-in that they don’t have a car.
How so? Maybe im not being clear online… i dk. But if they ask you all you need to do is say you dont have a car…. The front desk obviously on both instances did something wrong… im confused how i contradicted myself… again lost in translation online?

We can agree to disagree on this one, but I think if you drive a car into the resort and tell the front desk that you don't have a car, you're going to be charged. I don't think the front desk did anything wrong in your case other than not handle your handicap pass better once informed about it.

In other words, if there's a conflict between what happens at the guard shack (you drive up in a car, not an Uber or taxi) and what you tell the front desk (I don't have a car), you're going to be charged. At least that's what makes the most sense. What Disney does in practice is often wildly inconsistent, which is what leads to so many disputes and misunderstandings.

Understood. I was just giving my thoughts on what the person was saying how he doesnt have to pay but doesnt want to give up how he does it… im not saying my suggestion will work im just saying they really dont verify one way or other and i even thought maybe its linked to myband but ive used my daughters and moms to get into the resort who are not on my room and it still let us in… again i dk how they would or wouldnt know nor do i know how that person does it. Nor do i care how he “beats” the system.

Agreed. But I do think that their default if you arrive in a car is to charge unless challenged. It would be interesting to see if you had a better experience if you displayed your handicap pass on the rental when you drove in or informed the guard.

Fwiw the 1st 2 years they started this i had no issues in 18 & 19. Not that anyone if that matters but i agree you would think they have to have a way to know you have a car…

Yup, that’s why you always smile at checkpoint Charlie…it’s the first of THOUSANDS of times the mouse will see your beautiful face while you’re there…face + license plates too…

Just got back from 6 nights at WDW.
Drove there and stayed at All Star Movies.
When we checked in, the CM mentioned the parking fee.
Checked out Saturday and……we did not pay for parking!
No arguing, no problem.
Stayed at POFQ the week of Hurricane Ian. For the first time since resort parking fees were implemented, we were not charged for parking at the resort at all for the entire week. I wonder if due to moving guests from Fort Wilderness to other resorts on property along with people staying at Disney as their hurricane shelter, that Disney waived the resort parking fees for guests that week.

Maybe they figured these poor folks got hit with a hurricane, let's let em park fee. BTW did they offer guests any other things..maybe a free micky bar while you hunkered down?

And don’t think for one second that people don’t come down with their relative’s placard to get out of paying…hell , there are people on here that brag about never paying for parking…like I said, I’d GLADLY pay for parking if I didn’t need the placard. There’s an especially warm place reserved for those people…a LOT hotter than Orlando in August.
We did not use a handicap placard.

We always drive to WDW.
We don’t pay for parking.
We don’t put a CC on file at our hotel (usually the all stars)
We don’t use magic bands for any charges.
As I’ve said in the past, I’d love to share how we don’t pay for parking but I’m not ruining it for me.
Just a hunch. I dont think you be ruining it for you if you said what you are doing to get away with it… heck someone literally posted Genie drop times and Disney did nothing about them… fastpass had drop times as well and Disney did nothing to change them… i understand this has a monetary value but im pretty sure Disney is not gonna change anything one way or the other…

More power to you. But ill say this and im sure this may get taken down. If you need to brag on the internet on a disney forum with a bunch of strangers. You may want to reevaluate a few things in your life and look in the mirror… but hey thats just me 🤷‍♂️
I left enough "crumbs" in my posts to say how we avoid the parking fee.
It doesn’t matter if one agrees with the charge. Theft is theft.
I don't know what theft you're implying.
At 11am on checkout day, our balance on our resort bill was $0.
No mention about any parking fee on our bill.
