Ok, I just got engaged Saturday :sohappy: Yay, i'm so happy lol. Anyway, the wedding date is October 7, 2006...I was wondering what would be a better honeymoon...Disney World, or Disney Cruise? Which has better 'honeymoon' experiences? Thanks everyone!

i think a lot of it depends on your preferences. The cruise will obviously be more relaxing and tropical, but if you like the hustle and bustle of WDW then that is where you should go. I know I would rather be in the world for a honeymoon as opposed to the cruise.

Congratulations - Do both!!! :) Seriously that is what my fiancee' and I decided on, since neither of us have ever been on a cruise - but we couldn't stand to go down to Florida and NOT go to WDW...so, the Land and Sea package with the Polynesian and Disney Wonder it is!!

Congratulations on your engagement! :sohappy:

We did WDW for ours but that was because it was easier for us to affrd that than the cruise. If we'd had a little extra money we might have done the cruise- but you can't go wrong either way!!!

Thanks everybody..Yeah, one thing we did decide on was definitely Disney lol. We've never been on a cruise so I think it'd be awesome to do four days at Disney and a three day cruise...It's kind of confusing to me though, like how do you get to the ship and stuff? So basically we drive to Florida, spend four days in the World, then get on the ship and cruise for three days? I want to pay for the Honeymoon, so I better start saving now lol.

we did both 7 nights in WDW and the 7 night cruise.
I'm not sure how the land and sea package works, but if you can, I would go to WDW first and then end with the cruise.
We did it that way and it was more relaxing to end with the cruise.

If you are driving to WDW , you would just drive to the cruise on the morning/afternoon of the cruise departure. I guess there is parking at the port but we didn't drive there. If you were flying, you can book the disney cruise bus to take you to the port.
Make sure to bring your birth certificate or passport if you have one.
Also, for the cruise, if you are leaving right after the wedding for your honeymoon, You will have to book yourself under your madien name. If you are not going right away, you may have time to get the documents you need with your married name. My wife was on the cruise as her madien name.

Oh yeah, congrats on getting engaged

Congratulations! :sohappy:
I think you should try the cruise. That's what we're going to do since we so badly want to go to WDW on the honeymoon but want to do something a little different and extra special. We're going to try and stay an extra couple of days, but just like you, we started saving right away.

Congrats!! Good choice on the honeymoon plans. I've already started planning mine... now I just gotta propose!:p

When you figure out transportation from WDW to Port Canaveral, be sure to let me know. I'm trying to figure it out because we won't have a car while we're down there.

*note to self: Heather is officially off the market ;)

There is a cruise line bus, it leaves from every moderate and deluxe resort. If you are in WDW you can also go to AK on the day the cruise leaves and catch the bus from there.
When you pay for transfers, you get this bus

I just wanted to add my congratulations. Our anniversary is Oct 6, so we consider that time of year to be extra special.

As others have said, the land and sea package sounds like it would be a good choice. Like anything it depends on your tastes, but to do both this time will give you and idea what to expect from the cruise if you do a longer one sometime in the future.

I like the variety of choices at WDW for a honeymoon as there are so many special things to do. You can check a number of threads available on this or feel free to PM me.

Transportation was already mentioned. Disney has a full transportation package, where you only need to have your bags ready and they pick them up, transport them and you, and also get them right on the ship and you get a separate check in that saves a lot of time.

Not to put a damper on things, but one thought to consider is that October is still hurricane season, so there is some risk of bad weather.

It will be a busy 6 months with all the planning, enjoy!

I second telling them it's your honeymoon. Tell the reservation operator, tell the operator when you make your PS, and tell the host(ess) when you show up for meals.

We went for our honeymoon in May 2000 and did the land and sea package. I think others have covered the transportation portion. I would add that if you can take the bus from WDW to Port Canvaral, do it. It is a nice relaxing way to segway the portions of your vacation, and much better than worrying about finding your way or even worse, miss departure.

But anyway, when we went to Primetime Cafe, they asked if we were celebrating anything. When our bill came, there was a nice card signed by our server and the kitchen staff. On the cruise, and our table there was us and 2 other couples celebrating anniverseries. On the last night, each couple got a cake brought out to them. Needless to say, our table had lots of dessert that night. You never can tell what CMs might do for you to make your day that much more special.

Congratulations.

Congrats! For my honeymoon in 2001, my wife and I stayed for a week in the Caribbean Beach for 7 days. We had an absolute blast. I would say if you can afford it, do the cruise. I have not been on the Disney cruise but I have gone twice on Carnival and had a really good time. I have not priced the Disney cruise so I don't know how expensive it really is. But whatever you pick, I am sure Disney is the way to go!

OK, here's some extra info about the Land and Sea Packages from my experience:

1. Disney cruise line can arrange for your transportation from the airport to WDW, WDW to Port Canaveral, and the Port back to either WDW or the airport, whichever you like. It costs a fee to have the land travel arranged, but we didn't think it was too bad considering we need transportation one way or another, and we trust Disney to take good care of us.

2. You can tell them it is your honeymoon when you book. On the DCL website, when you book online, there's even a little checkbox for "Honeymoon Notification" to add to your reservations. Not sure what we're going to get from it, but it's worth letting them know. Also, there are "romance" package add-ons you can pay extra for if you like.

3. It's not cheap - I mean, especially if you want A) a deluxe WDW resort or B) a cruise ship room with a verandah. You can, of course, do it cheaper if you're willing to take a Moderate resort and a stateroom either on the inside (no window) or a room with just a window. Nothing wrong with that either (it's Disney, so it's NEVER bad, :) ) of course, and it will save you some $$ so if you're not set on a Deluxe resort (like me cos I'm a spoiled brat :p) you can go cheaper.

4. The DCL website is a pretty good place to start - especially since you can get price quotes right on the site to give you an idea of it is doable for you financially. If you do decide to take the cruise, look into getting the PassPorter Walt Disney World guidebook as it has been a huge help already in planning our trip.

PM me anytime you have honeymoon questions - I've become utterly OBSESSED these past few months - I'll try my best to answer them!
