Honest opinions of Spirit of Aloha

Hi All,

So my DH and I are heading to the Poly. And to stay in theme, I was thinking of maybe doing the Spirit of Aloha dinner show. But is it really worth it? Good good? Worth the money? Is it a good time?

Any info would be great!

Unfortunately, I have to agree. I'm not sure which show was worse, this one or Mickey's Backyard BBQ at Fort Wilderness. I guess it would have to be, in my opinion, Mickey's Backyard BBQ since this is the only time I've ever requested Disney to refund my purchase (and I make 50+ dining reservations every year). But Spirit of Aloha would be a very close second.

The last 15 minutes of the show is the best, but you really have to sit through a lot of boring stuff first.

I'd say you're being generous. I thought it was more like the first hour was embarrassingly bad.

OP, I stay at the Poly too, so I know where you're coming from. But seriously, save your money and go to 'Ohana instead.

My husband and I really enjoyed it. (other than the annoying kids that sat behind us) My DH is part Hawaiian and thought it was cool. We went for the 1st time last year and debated doing it again this year.

As much as we love the Poly, and kona's, captain cook's and ohanas, I have to say we did not enjoy the luau. It wasn't worth nearly what we paid. To us, however, Ohana's is worth its weight in gold!!!!

We did the luau last summer and tend to agree with the previous posters. Although I would have to say the food was not Horrible, it was nothing special either, except for maybe the dessert that was pretty good. The show was REALLY cheesy and the only "cool part" was the fire dancer. We actually walked out during the last number so we could see the beginning of the fireworks from the beach.

We will not be doing this show again unless they make some serious changes. We were expecting something similar to a traditional luau. However having said that, we will be doing the HDDR again. Everyone loved that show.

I was actually going to post a similar thread so the above are answering my question too! I have the SOA booked for our upcoming August trip. I was talking to someone recently about it that did it during a May trip and they said it was super hot. So...I'm starting to think August is not the month for us to try this out. All of the bad reviews are definitely not helping either.

Thank you everyone. I really appreciate the honest info. I want to do something special on Sept 21 as it is the evening I have planned to spend at the Poly - watch the water pageant, etc. Ohana is booked for dinner. We will be eating around the World at Epcot and during the a.m. and afternoon. So I thought if it was worth it, the SOA show would be perfect. But after these reviews, I would rather spend my moola elsewhere. I do have Kona and Ohana booked for breakfast. Any other suggestions for the evening - I can't imagine that we will be starving after eating all day. But we will need to do something. Maybe make it a room service night? Thanks again. I'm definitely NOT going to book it!

Well I would suggest hopping on the monorail to the MK or Contemporary and catching the boat to Pioneer hall for the HDDR.

I've never seen it, but this past November, Mom and I stayed in the Aotearoa building and we could never fall asleep until the last show was over. For that reason alone, it's left a bad taste in my mouth.

I quess it's O.K. if you don't mind throwing away some dining plan points, but I wouldn't spend the money out of my pocket (that's one of the reasons I love using the dining plan, a turkey like this one doesn't seem to hurt so much).

Yeah, I don't want to waste the TS credits on it. We are dining at CRT and then using one every day so we will be paying out of pocket for some stuff.

What a bummer .. I always wanted to give this show a chance. Might still enjoy it but would be tough with the kids if the first hour is slow/boring

I always find myself as one of the lone crusaders for SoA when these threads come around.

My family and I make this a ritual every WDW visit. The show is a little corny, but quite enjoyable( in my opinion not nearly as corny as HDDR). The food is decent, and the adult beverages are free refills.:lookaroun

So obviously I would recommend and have a great time. Who doesn't love fire eaters and hula dancers.

Have to agree with the majority of posters. We went 10 days ago. The show was corny and boring for the most part. The appetizers were the best part of the meal, but again nothing super. I am not ever going again unless they change the menu and the show. Hoop-de-doo is corny, but fun although last time the food had gone down hill.

Honestly, I would rather put $150 dollars towards a trip to Aulani! I will get the real Hawaii experience then! :lol:

tried this two summers ago and the heat made even the beer tough to enjoy. i think that is what made it only a so-so experience for me. we are, however, trying it again this june. im actually looking forward to it. whats the harm in doing it and seeing for yourself? ive had very few bad dining experiences at wdw, so i wouldnt stay away based on others opinions. if after the second try im still unimpressed, maybe ill agree with everyone here. i just hope for a good time.
