Rumor Hollywood insiders say there's growing tension at Disney as CEO Bob Chapek chafes at Bob Iger's 'long goodbye'

Disney exec Erin Wallace started as an industrial eng, left for greener pastures but found out the grass is not always greener on the other side.
I know (knew) her…

No thanks. That’s not the cat I’m talking about. She had a hard time getting her luggage off the baggage carousel…that big of a Knife collection is quite heavy.

Erin Wallace, forgot that name, pretty sure I have some sort of guest compliment letter somewhere with a “thank you! -Erin” fake signature stamped on it, what did she do again?

As with any Disney person: rotating business cards/titles

But she was heavy in Florida with Lee of the much feared Wafen Strategic Planning and Operations task force…under late Eisner and early “guests want to pay more for less” Bob I

In practice she just liked to scare people

Here’s her outside a cocktail luncheon at TDO:

It was…because if was designed by an industrial engineer who studied/knew how to move people around and allocate spots

It also helped that attendance was lower -- I'm not sure legacy FP would work very well now. It would still be better than Genie+, of course, but my guess is that most rides would run out completely pretty early in the morning.

It didn't work out that well back then either. Toy Story Mania would require you to rope drop just to get a FP ticket.

It would probably have been monetized to lower the overall crunch on the fastpasses…but still allowed most lower demand/tier rides flow continuously. And everyone would sign for That right now and twice on Sundays.

When it was brand new and Iger hasn’t built a damn thing in years?

Funny how that works.

But it still did “work”…because they limited the numbers involved to not foul up the whole system. That’s also why + was DOA.

Right, but only a couple of rides were like that (and think TSM sucks so I didn't care that it ran out!). I think now you'd see almost every ride in the parks out before noon.

Plus, didn't TSM open well after legacy FP was implemented?
Fast pass was 1999

Tsm opened late 2008 I believe?
And they didn’t count correctly - if you recall? - because the capacity was pathetic and they immediate had to start building the third track.

I think they had to do the same thing with Soarin? Another theater.

Reason? They can’t count. It’s actually pretty simple to calculate. You don’t have enough seats…do you need another 1200? 1800? Or 3000? Per hour?
Answer: you need 10,000. Once it’s built, the sunk cost becomes an advantage.

But they can’t count. Which means all their numbers people had to have come for Wharton and the University of Chicago 😎

Yes
Fastpass+ was actually a numerical disaster…I just posted the very long video describing down to the single seat in another thread. That’s why it’s gone after “only” 6 years

Disney doesn’t get rid of anything in 6 years…
I’d love to see that post. Which thread?

Those were the days where the early bird gets the worm. Lining up at the rope drop when the park opened and running full steam to each attraction to get the coveted fast passes. One had to work for it the hard way.
Actually that was rarely necessary.

…but if you wanted to go to wdw on 12/26 or Good Friday in those days…you really SHOULD have known what you were getting into.

Instead…ever since it was a boondoggle mess on a Saturday in October or the middle of February…

…so “magical” 🙄

People need to not be averse to walking a round in an amusement park.

And I bet many who whine about that now think going for 1/2 hour early at 7:30 am to get one ride before the crush is such a “gift” from Disney. Or paying Disney $129 to ride Peter Pan after hours (laughable) at 7 pm is “perfect for them”

Follow the tail in front of you over the cliff just ahead.

I'd rather that not be the case. It's too bad we've reached an era where priority lines exist and are here to stay, but I would greatly prefer that only stand-by lines exist exclusively. The Velocicoaster stands as a testament to how effective this is. I'd rather wait in an hour long line that's constantly moving, rather than one where I see a ton of people walk right past and bring the stand-by to a complete stop for extended periods of time.

Welcome to “fastpass +”…which people cry about around here like their dead grandmother

Or the no-FP parks during the pandemic. Lines were physically long but constantly moving.
But that can’t last

The problem is very simple…they didn’t build enough for the natural crowd growth to accommodate how they sold and ran their parks for 30+ years prior. They can’t meet reasonable expectations for the customers.

And when you can’t meet consumer expectations, lower them! Then charge for the level you used to provide.
