The Imagination pyramid looks like a Santa hat! I wonder if that was the intent of the lighting scheme? :lookaroun

And my, but that building that isn't really there next to the Contemporary certianly looks large and "C" shaped now.

What happened to getting the Christmas decorations up *magically* after Thanksgiving. I was there one Thanksgiving, and it all literally went up after that night. It's barely the week after Halloween, and the Christmas stuff is already up! Not that I'm complaining though....it looks good.

For years and years it was like you said. 90% of the decorations went up overnight right after Thanksgiving. (The exception was, of course, the Spectacle of Lights at the Studios, which takes months to set up) Guests visiting saw a magical transformation in the parks and hotels. They went to bed one night with everything regular, and then the next morning *bam*, it's Christmas. The reason for the change, though has many parts to it, though much of it can be traced back to Guests and then ultimately the retail industry...

First, Disney started stretching out the installation over a number of days because of the number of hotels and the extreme overtime required to coordinate all those decorations going up in a single night.

Then, Guests visiting in early November went to the parks and didn't see any decorations. They compained to Guest Relations "I always hear how great the holiday decorations are at Disney. The decorations are up at the mall back home, why aren't they here?" So you can blame people who equate Disney with their malls and stores back home, and those stores that are now putting Christmas stuff up even before Halloween...

Also, Disney saw extra money-making opportunity in starting the MK's Christmas Parties earlier. It used to be that the first MVMCP was the week after Thanksgiving. This year, the first MVMCP is this coming Monday! A whole 2+ weeks earlier than just a few years ago.

When i was tromping around, I honestly wondered if they could finish by this monday, when most things are supposed to start.

AK has nothing as far as I saw - only area I completely missed was Camp Minnie Mickey. The entrance doesn't even have garland or the flag pole removed.

MK is treeless. Epcot has parts of Future World and a few World showcase countries - but none of the large stages and such for the stroytellers are up yet.

MGM looks the furthest along of the park.

Contemporary, Boardwalk, and Yacht/Beach didn't look like they did anything yet. Nor Swan/Dolphin.

They've got a LOT of work left to do.

I think those complaining are individuals who aren't going to be there between November 12th (when the bulk of decorations are first 'on' officially) and Thanksgiving. They are complaints of out jealousy really (like all those people who hate the Patriots). If you ask anyone there during that period what they think of the decorations, I'll bet 90% or more will say they're thrilled that Disney has chosen to celebrate the holidays before Thanksgiving, because it gives them the chance to enjoy it. Those opinions are the ones that matter. You aren't going to cancel your trip (for another time of year) because Disney is celebrating Christmas earlier, so why should they care about your opinion?

Now, before you say, "So why doesn't Disney celebrate Christmas year-round if it would make guests happy?" The answer is because it wouldn't. Guests would complain if they were at WDW in late October to celebrate Halloween and Disney were celebrating Christmas. They've found the perfect balance, and that balance is about 10 days between Halloween and Christmas seasons. If you're complaining, maybe you have the luxury of going in December. But for the sake of those of us who don't, and must go prior to Thanksgiving, don't complain. It doesn't affect you and we're quite happy with the early decorations.

Well, that's a little disconcerting.

By the way, thanks for the updates!

That's not good about Animal Kingdom, a certain parade is scheduled to soft open very soon.

YAY! STRAWS IN AK!

Honestly, this is the most exciting thing in Merf's post for me.

I am a straw snob, I hate drinking directly out of a cup when I'm not at home. You just never know where that cup has been. :lookaroun
