For all three years, the course was pretty much the same. http://disneyrunning.com/TowerOfTerror13KMap2009.pdf It started at MGM, went out on the roadways, through a wooded trail to Wide World of Sports (and literally went all over in there--around the track, on soccer fields, around a baseball diamond) then went back to MGM where it zigged and zagged all throughout the park, finishing back behind the scenes by RnRC.

It was fast and flat. Although it did end on a pretty steep incline back by Fantasmic. And one part did go through the woods.

The first year was very Twilight Zone themed. People were dressed in all white, clanging chains, and looking really deranged, aimlessly wandering around the course, some even trying to scare you. Banging on pots, screaming, it was bizarre yet really fun.

The next year was themed to 1930s Hollywood. Kinda wierd.

The last year kept a 30s Hollywood theme, but you would decode clues along the way to solve a murder, or maybe an abduction??

The first year was BY FAR the best.

The afterparty included Tower of Terror, RnRC, Great Movie Ride, Star Tours, Muppets, and Toy Story. The afterparty was EMPTY!!! Great night for the competitors.

Each year, I bought a picture of my family of 4 ALL ALONE on the Tower, to commemorate the run.

The pre-race party was always heavily themed too--We checked in at a makeshift lobby and signed the guest registrar of the Tower. It was classic Disney fun.

Interesting thought of bringing back the ToT13k. If I recall they had problems selling it at the years went on. I don't think the last year even came close to selling out. I can't see any hidden messages in the video, and outside of the "Towering" clue, I got nothing. Except that they used Donald, Mickey, & Goofy (the characters from Marathon Weekend) when they have Minnie running costumes as well. Stretching here, but maybe they are referencing something for the full marathon runners this year? (Since Mickey is Santa, not Goofy like they normally use in the parks.....)

That's all we got.

"Towering" kind of awkwardly used in the blog title.

But they did make a point to reference "here at the Magic Kingdom Park" as opposed to Studios.

And it was Mickey, Donald, and Goofy, the stars of Marathon W/E.

Hmmmm.

My guess was the return of Marathon Monday (possibly for all Marathon Weekend participants)...I guess we'll find out soon!

Quite possible based on the clue. Although, we are all assuming they are referring to the Hollywood Studios Tower of Terror. What if they held it at Disney's California Adventure Tower of Terror.

I'm fairly certain it is for WDW. I had info earlier this year about an addition for WDW running, but no specifics.

Figures they'd bring in a new/returning race. I'm finally going to complete the collection of medals for all the races they currently run.

Guess I'll have something new to shoot for. Wonder when it would be held?

The Tower of Terror 13K was awesome from the standpoint of being the only 13K race anywhere, with glow in the dark shirts and race bibs, and the only race other than maybe Everest with a "story." :D

I ran in year two and it was the best ever, in my mind. Don says "kinda weird' but that was the point - just like what happened in the Hollywood Tower Hotel. The runners set out on a race but were almost immediately sent back in time . . . at the one mile mark was a finish line, but from the 1930s and the banner was tattered and the voices congratulating you were faded and ghostly.

You had to run back to the present time, passing by disco dancers on one stage wearing go-go boots and 60s/70s attire. . .

After that, there was the DJ who had died and turned to skeleton bones . . .

Just for fun, there was a sprinkling of Disney villains including Captain Hook, Snow White's wicked queen and Cruella DeVil all together.

At one point, you had to run "off road" for about a quarter to half a mile with colored lights creating a misty haze, out around the Wide World of Sports park.

The finish was at the Tower of Terror and there was plenty of time to enjoy a post-race finisher party with the major attractions of the Disney-MGM Studios park open, including the Toy Story Midway Mania.

Overall, I would certainly recommend it. The downside is, sadly, that it is "only" 8 miles and so many people won't pay the money to travel to Florida for a race of that distance. But it is well worth the price for those who go. :king:

And Brad - it had probably the best finisher medal of all - a replica of the Hollywood Tower Hotel with a moving elevator!

Gotta say I will make every effort to support this race. It looks like fun. And 10 miles is a lot easier than 13.1!

I see where people are complaining that this race has been put into the Wine and Dine slot and so people's travel plans are being affected. Yikes! I can totally see their point.

For those who hadn't already planned on the Wine and Dine Half Marathon and made travel plans around it, I still say this is a great addition. For procrastinators, the wine and dine is pushed off to a little later in the year and still within the Epcot Food & Wine festival. I'm glad to see more races being done at Disney.
