The Holiday ROE w/ Peace on Earth Tag will be exactly the same this year again. No other changes are coming anytime soon, next year maybe.

I also heard that Showcase Plaza Xmas Tree stage and Lights of Winter aren't ever coming back. First, (like most times) it's about money, it is expensive to install and maintain and secondly, it causes too much of a traffic jam, too many people stop in the middle to watch or take photos. So maybe any future Xmas displays will be off to side somewhere.

So maybe like in the Rose Garden? Or on the path to Odyssey? Or better yet, take over Odyssey and turn it into a Christmas village.

I can see the crowd control problem as a reason for getting rid of the stage since the lighting ceremony did end up blocking the walkway for a good 10 minutes or so, but as far as the Lights of Winter themselves, I never had a problem moving around or through that area when it was up. And people stop in the middle of the path to watch other entertainment offerings all the time; Off Kilter, Mariachi Cobre, and MoRockin come to mind as instances where the promenade can almost be effectively blocked, yet I don't see them getting rid of any of those shows. The crowd reason is a fairly phony and made-up excuse to me.

What's next? No Osbourne lights because too many people are blocking the path to TSM?:brick:

:veryconfu Well, I guess if it changes next year, it will be soon relatively speaking, right? (They're obviously not going to change it in the middle of this year, so any change next year would be the first possible chance!)

And traffic jams? I can understand the basic premise...but they've been doing it for how many years now?!

The traffic jam argument would be like removing the castle because people in Main Street stop to take its photo causing traffic jams.

That's ridiculous. And an horrible excuse.

I think we hear different noise about LoW depending on wind direction, but is most dependent on which mouth it comes out of. Wasn't the last official thing from Disney something about not ready this year, but maybe next? I assume this was in hopes that enough folks would forget and those that hadn't will have calmed enough not to flood them with complainants again....

I like the current ROE holiday tag though I REALLY wish they would do the show they used for the 25th again. That was really cool. Knowing how they like to save money I am grateful they are continuing to run the tag at all.

I don't believe Disney have ever officially commented on LoW other than the twitter post declaring it obsolete. There have been unofficial rumors suggesting a return for 2011, and the storage of the arches certainly supported that.

Either way, Epcot is going to look pretty drab again this holiday.

To put a positive spin on all of this, the no changes to the Peace on Earth tag is a good thing. It means, A) they haven't cut any pyro (what does it say that I'm happy when pyro isn't[/] cut? As if doing what they're supposed to do is somehow a 'win'), and B) it means Walter Cronkite will still be narrating. Right?

Agreed on both counts. It would cost money to change the VO so I think where Walter is concerned we are good.

With hearing that the arches aren't coming back again this year. I know where I will be going again each time that I visit the park. I'll make a visit into Guest Services to make a complaint about the lack of decorations and how the lights added to the overall feeling of christmas in the park.

That's all we can do. We do know from posters here that while the lights are not back, the complaints were heard loud and clear and in great numbers last year. Continuing to make our voices heard is a good idea.

The pyro cut took place last year, so I'm guessing that the cuts are still in place for this year, but at least they have not been cut any further.

Am I the only one who thinks the Lights of Winter look ugly and tacky?
LoW ugly? I don't think so. Tacky? Mmmmmm, maybe. Would you consider the display at DHS tacky? They are kinda the same thing albeit on different scales.

As for the Holiday Illumination tag, while I would like to believe they will be returning the show to its previous levels of pyro I somehow doubt this will come to be. If you don't have to spend the money for the extra product why would you?
