Does anyone know who manufactured the trains and track system? Will it operate like a ride? Or an actual mass transit system that happens to have special effects?

Doppelmayr. They did the less technologically sophisticated but similar Ocean Express at Ocean Park.

I have no idea what I'm talking about, getting that out of the way up front, but I half expected them to re-purpose the model car that's already on site.

But of course they wouldn't do that, it's ridiculous and gets rid of a great photo op.

Because if you do some careful zooming you can see the gap between the two sections of rail in the photo.

No turning around or loops. They simply go both directions, with a bypass in the track's midsection. The trains will have two "fronts," like a monorail, but you'll only see one of them.
