Hocus Pocus Sequel Being Developed for Disney+

I probably shouldn’t post this but since it’s not really political and just concerns a whack job, why not?

What blood sacrifices is she talking about? The Sisters just suck souls. Good clean fun. She'd probably lose her mind over a Rob Zombie movie.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness was WAAAAAY darker and more steeped in the occult and evil magic than either Hocus Pocus film. The targeting of this film feels very random.

That's a bit outdated, might want to check out the Nielsen thread where the weekly numbers are being shared:

Here is the recent one from this weeks Nielsen chart that shows She-Hulk is at number 6.

Not that his belongs in this thread anymore and should rather be in the She-Hulk thread, but that is wrong.

That is the overall chart which lumps all streaming content together and not specifically Originals.

Here is the chart for Originals for the same time period which shows She-Hulk at number 5, ie climbing the charts from the previous week.

The apples are tasting just fine....

This is the Hocus Pocus thread. Are you posting this to show that Hocus Pocus didn't make the top 10?

Just continuing an old discussion about She-Hulk. This is before Hocus Pocus was even released. So it's not about that.

If I talk about it again, I'll keep the top 10 info in the She-Hulk thread from now on. This way it doesn't derail the conversations.

The only bits with any real bite are holdover elements from the original, which almost certainly would have been scrubbed if this movie had no original to refer to, you know?

I'd say this is a broader criticism I'd hold against "Childrens entertainment" in general these days. The gloves were off way more in the 70-90's. Society has become increasingly anxious about exposing kids to anything.

Pixar actually has historically skirted around that a bit though.

So , anyone who likes the film is a paid shill or a liar.

Well, sure, but that seems like a silly play for a movie that came out in 1993 but only hit mainstream success after 2000 or so and seems to still be growing. You'd think that's a clear indication that contemporary audiences are willing to accept and even embrace that "edge", not that they like the movie despite it.

I agree with many other people's sentiments. Most of the time family entertainment nowadays is playing it too safe. There is no edginess to most family films of the 21st Century. The lion's share of them feel way too lame and too tame.

I miss the days of "Goonies", "Who Framed Roger Rabbit, "Beetlejuice", "The Sandlot", "Home Alone" and of course "Hocus Pocus". Heck "Stranger Things" might have been seen as a family series back in the old days.

Here is some photos of who should have been the real cast of Hocus Pocus 2. But Disney of course had their reasons for not going with the originals. And going with a new cast with no relevance and no connection to The Sanderson Sisters.

I don't think any of the original cast are virgins anymore.

LOL, I was thinking it could be Dani's eldest son that lights the candle. I figure he could have been teasing his younger brother saying "It's just a bedtime story. It isn't real."

That’s exactly what was my point was meant to be. It’s not merely a Disney problem, most Childrens entertainment has been sanitized these days from being allowed to be ‘scary’ or ‘edgy’.

But at the same time there’s a lingering audience thirst for it. There’s a lot of 8 year olds who were/are into Squid Games and Stranger Things. The former definitely hadn’t been intended for them outright.

It depends on where one sides over content control for children I guess. There was very little of it pre Temple of Doom.
