So I was thinking if The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy is a hit in the theatres will Disney dedicate a ride to this movie. A ride on this movie could logically fit in MGM or in MK in Tommorrowland. This seems to fit within recent thinking of cross promoting and tie ins, what do you guys think???

It's being made from a set of best-selling books. They're pretty popular and funny, so Im looking forward to the movie. The only thing about a ride is, it'd probably be close to Space Mountain in a way, unless they take a different approach. Maybe it will be a redo for Star Tours? I dont want to see that leave though. Who knows ....

To be honest with you, I'm still a bit confused as to what the heck that movie is supposed to be about anyway.
It started life as a BBC Radio series then expanded into a trilogy of five books, a couple of long playing records, a six part BBC TV adaption and a small cottage industry in specialist towels :D

Disney will just paint Spaceship Earth green and put a big toothy grin on it and replace the wand hand with a hitch hiking thumb hand. All the cast members will wear "Don't Panic" buttons.

I'm sure, given the proper budget, that WDI could make some great advancements in improbability physics. I would like to see the Sci-Fi Dine In add a Pan-Galactic Goggle Blaster to its menu, not that I'd drink it.

Hitchhikers Guide is a quirky series of stories originally presented as a radio show. It is English humor which is either very funny or not understood in the US. You will probably need to read at least some for the movie to make any sense.

While I am very anxious to see the movie, I would not want to bet on this one as a big player. As the story is rather odd, constantly shifting, and I can't see it manifesting itself as a ride.

I am sure the movie will be "americanized" to appeal to the majority of the viewers.

And even if they haven't changed the movie that much I believe it will be great, I read the BBC radio show transcripts while I was in high school, and I found it very funny.

It might not get a ride, but I am sure there will be some sort of park presence.

Dunno. the guys who made the movie are HUGE fans of the books. They were having a hard time making sure there was enough material, stuff fromt he books, etc.

can't wait for this one. hopeing it'll be on the cruise ship when we go. comes out the day before my cruise.

Disclaimer: I'm a big fan of the books.

I'm sure an attraction could be made from the movie. Heck, country line dancing got it's own attraction, and that was popular for what, five minutes in the mid 90's? :)

The attraction could start with Arthur being captured by the Vogons and teleported to some sort of intergalactic prison. Something goes wrong with the teleportation, and Arthur escapes. Hilarity ensues as guests hear Arthur running all around them (via surround sound), trying to avoid capture, while the voices of Vogon guards shout all around them. At some point, Arthur's stomach gets the best of him, he burps, and guests are treated to the smell of the beer and peanuts he consumed prior to teleportation.

With much difficulty, Arthur is re-captured. Before he can cause further trouble, he's teleported from the prison to a replica of the Earth, resplendent with it's own copy of the Magic Kingdom's Astro Orbiter attraction. In-the-know guests are left to ponder the irony that some people consider the theme park a prison. Everyone exits through a gift shop, where you can purchase plush in every possible character and size. Anyway, that's how I see that attraction shaping up. ;)

On a serious note, there's also potential for the Restaurant at the End of the Universe to turn into a sit-down Tomorrowland facility, something lacking on that side of the park. Think of the entertainment.

Fine fine post lentesta. I didn't think about the restaurant...that might even work at MGM...kind of a Rainforest Cafe immersive, with outer walls as screens showing the universe...with hourly "finales".

The merchandising would do well. We can have Hitchhikers guides instead of Pal Mickeys, and there just aren't enough towels in the gift shops.

I hope the movie does well, then again I enjoyed the BBC version, Dr. Who and Neil Gaiman's Neverwhere.

Whatever happens, Don't Panic!

If it means getting Stitch out I may be for that.

Seriously though if this became a box office hit there is the potential for something, maybe as someone suggested to replace Timekeeper (though I love that show).

Funny to see this suggestion here!

Mainly, because the Marketing for the movie is so poorly done, I can't imagine the movie making a profit unless the word-of-mouth is fantastic!

The early previews explain nothing to those unfamiliar with the story (like myself) and actually made me NOT want to see the movie. It was very dark and confusing. (Though I think I saw "TIM" from THE OFFICE in there somewhere?!?!?! :sohappy: )

There's a LOT of good movies coming out this summer, so hopefully it's not too late to save it from bombing before it opens!!

The official movie trailer is fairly useless, just makes it look like a by the numbers generic mindless movie.

The should have used the online advert that takes the mickey out of movie trailers. That's the one that makes me want to see the film.

Thanks BARNUM!

I'll check out the online trailer to see if that helps!

Also....is that TIM (from The Office) I saw in the theater preview?

Looks like He was playing the lead?

ASIDE: The new "THE OFFICE" does not even begin to compare to the original. Ricky Gervais, we miss you!!! :sohappy:
