My take on the presentations made by Brightline is that they do not want to get involved in more local services than they have to. But in saying that, they also said that some changes could be made to enhance the idea of using the train from the airport to WDW. Keep in mind that they also don't plan to run routes from Miami to Tampa directly (they would be two separate routes with change of train in between - Miami/MCO or Tampa/MCO). One example given was to make the Miami/MCO route continue on to WDW, terminate there, and then do the reverse back to Miami, making the WDW/MCO route something of a shuttle. If the Tampa/MCO train also makes a quick stop at WDW both to and from MCO, this could add <some> additional access to a possible twice-per-hour stop, especially during peak travel times. They mentioned a few other stops that might go in this 'local' direction, such as Melbourne/Cocoa Beach. I'm sure there would also be 'express' service directly to/from the airport (to/from Miami / Tampa). But of course none of this has been hammered out yet.I'm still of the opinion that at this time Brightline has no interest in shuttling people between MCO & WDW, although SunTrain may in the future. But to dispute some of your points:
You'll have to drag your luggage across the airport to the Uber pickup, the rental car pickup, or wherever. And there has been a rumor that MCO plans to move all ground transportation, including car rentals, to the South Terminal complex, in which case you'd be riding the same APM to the same place whether using Uber, rail, Mears, or a car rental.
SunRail is commuter rail, but Brightline is intercity rail that handles checked baggage. If they were interested, Brightline could work out a luggage transfer agreement with the airlines. SunRail would need to acquire additional equipment if they were to provide airport service; I'd expect those new coaches would have ample space for luggage on board, as direct airport rail generally does. Disney could provide last-mile luggage transfer to their resorts, perhaps for a fee.
DME was not the only one to move baggage from airports to hotels. Similar services are (or were) offered by 3rd parties at other airports. I think the contractor that provided the luggage transfer for DME may have been one of the companies offering the service in other cities.
I also doubt that WDW will use their standard on-property buses to handle the guests arriving/leaving by train. For one, I don't think the station will be built conveniently close enough to the current bus stops and as others have mentioned, this would be a nightmare for guests with luggage. In addition, I believe that WDW will eventually build out the Skyliner platform for a line to the train station - allowing only transfers between the two (no access to DS from the Skyliner).
OK, I probably stuck my foot in my mouth but ...
