Hess is closing all gas stations

Not sure if this is the right forum for it, but it does effect trip planning. I also searched and did not find this in another thread.

Hess has announced that it is closing all of it's gas stations and will be focusing on its exploration efforts instead.

Not sure what this means for WDW, but I know a lot of people love the Hess mini-marts and use them to stock up on decently priced food quite frequently.

I don't doubt that another vendor will come in and replace the Hess stations on property. And since I fly and use DME, I could not care less about the price of gas.

The point is, Hess was a good operator in WDW. I think everyone can agree that the stations and mini-marts were clean and well maintained and that the pricing and selection was more than fair. Hess had a gold mine in those locations and choose to do a good job of it - clean, well run, well stocked facilities that I am sure made a good profit (I dont know what Disney's cut was) and did not gouge a captive consumer. Many many tip books and sites list the Hess stores as a place to get good priced items.

I just hope that whatever operator takes their place, that they follow the same business model as Hess. Or maybe they will start selling Mickey brand gas, a $1 upcharge per gallon, because it fills you tank with magic and your exhaust sprays pixie dust.

This is my thought/worry as well. We stop at one of the 3 stations on property no less than once per trip to fill up and grab drinks and snacks for the ride home. The reasonable prices on both gas and food make choosing the station on property a no brainer. I know where I can find comparable numbers off property, but adding a 1/2 hour to the end of a long day to get there and back is not all that appealing.

Maybe since they closed Pete's Gas and Oil when they demolished Toontown, they can replace Hess with Pete's

that would work too. Though more Oswald integration into the parks would be nice. Pete already has a Silly Side-Show to fall back on since his garage closed shop. He always seems to fall on his feet.

Are there still gas stations that sell food items and beer, water, poop, and snacks on property? If so, what are the names and possible phone numbers?

Hess still has gas stations on site @ WDW. I would not worry about the stations closing completely. Someone will take over. We have many Hess stations here in upstate New York and there is no threat of closing here from what I have been told

Actually, I don't believe you can get it in a can or bottle there, only a fountain one....I had a long discussion with the attendant about it one time and they said they were pressured by Disney into only carrying Coke products, but they already had it on fountain so they didn't remove it.

Actually, on the website, they have a countdown for preordering the 2013 truck, so I guess they aren't stopping them. Maybe it will be mail order. Kind of a bummer, as I finally live near some Hess stations.

I hope they get Wawa, for those outside of the Northeast Wawa made their first push into Florida about 2 years ago, excellent customer service, fresh food and usually pretty fair pricing on gas as well.
