Hess is closing all gas stations

Not sure if this is the right forum for it, but it does effect trip planning. I also searched and did not find this in another thread.

Hess has announced that it is closing all of it's gas stations and will be focusing on its exploration efforts instead.

Not sure what this means for WDW, but I know a lot of people love the Hess mini-marts and use them to stock up on decently priced food quite frequently.

As long as it isn't Shell (Usually the most expensive where I live), the gas stations around Disney changing hands will probably not be that bad. They know people need gas and will have a replacement lined up.

What we need to worry about is what this means for Hess trucks. It needs to be back and better than ever for Christmas.

My money is on Exxon, Shell or Sunoco. The idea that they would put an off brand site in there is ludicrous IMO.

A. It will cost a considerable amount to even win the bid.
B. A lot of folks will only fill up at big brand stations. Smart, because you are being guaranteed a certain level of quality in your fuel.

The trucks didn't cross my mind when I first read this thread earlier. Would be kinda sad not to see those ads at christmastime.
BTW- loved the reference to the commercials.

I doubt it would be Exxon. They are the former franchise holders.

I really hate Sunoco. They have the highest prices around where I'm at, and the customer service is almost always shoddy. I would literally take anything else over it.

I don't doubt that another vendor will come in and replace the Hess stations on property. And since I fly and use DME, I could not care less about the price of gas.

The point is, Hess was a good operator in WDW. I think everyone can agree that the stations and mini-marts were clean and well maintained and that the pricing and selection was more than fair. Hess had a gold mine in those locations and choose to do a good job of it - clean, well run, well stocked facilities that I am sure made a good profit (I dont know what Disney's cut was) and did not gouge a captive consumer. Many many tip books and sites list the Hess stores as a place to get good priced items.

I just hope that whatever operator takes their place, that they follow the same business model as Hess. Or maybe they will start selling Mickey brand gas, a $1 upcharge per gallon, because it fills you tank with magic and your exhaust sprays pixie dust.

I don't remember who was before Hess, but I do remember when they got replaced. Gas on Disney property when from a "hell no, I'll push my car off property" to pretty much in line with the local area prices.

I do hope whoever replaces them follows the Hess model.

Exxon who had the contract before had much higher prices and did not operate the stores 24Hrs. They would usually close about an hour after the closest park closed. Hess saw such an increase in business when they took over with the better prices and 24 hour service that they expanded the tiny MK station into what it is. I certainly hope whoever takes over follows their example.

If it is an Exxon station that comes in (doubtful) it will not be run by Exxon, it will be run by some large local distributor. Exxon is no longer in the retail gas business.
