hey, I went to the station to get a shirt and was told they're only selling them online now... if that's so, can you repost the info?

For shirt sales go to www.reedycreek.org

you mean that info???

Can I expect to see a tee shirt purchase from you or do you just like to stay current on our sales?

See ya real soon!

We Got Shirts!! Inspectors in Negotiations

Tee Shirt sales at the new fire station (Number 4) at 1914 East Buena Vista Drive (opposite Saratoga Springs Resort). The bad news: since there are only 6 people working at that Station (4 on the Engine and 2 on the Rescue) you may find the station empty if we are running calls. Work, work, work!

The Station held up well during the hurricane...the garage doors leaked a bit, but otherwise we felt pretty safe. Station 3 was evacuated well before the storm hit.

A few guys lost their homes, most of us had damage and power outages. No one got hurt though.

Our Fire Inspectors are now negotiating with the District. True to form, the District's initial offer was for the inspectors to loose their benefits and receive no pay increases. Nice. Looks like another round of LONG and drawn out (expensive) negotiations. Inspectors ensure that the properties remain as safe as possible and are our first line of defense in our fire prevention efforts.

Hope everyone else made it through Charley and is ready for the next "big one"!

We will be at Disney in 15 days. I have always wanted to come by the station there for a tour, but never find the time. Do you guys trade patches? If so, I will bring one from my station. I want a shirt! Are you guys all paid or do you have volunteers? My company is all volunteer. When is the best time of day to catch someone in the station?

I noticed earlier in this thread, it was mentioned that firefighters are underappreciated. That makes me very sad considering how they risk their lives daily and don't ever seem to give a second thought about it. I just wanted to take a second to say thank you to all the firefighters out there. Your work is greatly appreciated!

When I was on the college program back in 2002 I had the pleasure of meeting a NYC firefighter. This was less than a year after 9-11 and all I could say was thanks. It was all I could do to not cry because this man was there on that horrible day and survived. The work that all firefighters do is incredible and many people owe their lives to these brave men and women. So again, many thanks to all firefighters!

Tours are available at all stations. Stations 1 (by Carribean Beach) and 4 (by Wyndham Palace) are the most accessible. It is best to come by between 9am and 5pm. Some guys trade patches.

We are all paid members of the International Association of Fire Fighters, Local 2117. We have no volunteers, reserves or ride alongs. For more info see the web site at reedycreek.org

So, you want to be a member of Reedy Creek FD...

OK.....I keep getting PMs from folks looking to work here! Go to:

http://www.rcid.org/Job_posting.cfm
There is information on job openings and how to get the qualifcations you need for those positions.

For jobs in other parts of the state try: www.reedycreek.org

Also see this State of Florida site for EMS qualifications:

http://www.doh.state.fl.us/mqa/ems/ems_home.html

To become a Florida Certified Firefighter or Fire Safety Inspector try this site:

http://www.fldfs.com/sfm/bfst/fsfc/...StdsTraCncl.htm

From there select "I want to become a Florida Firefighter or Fire Safety Inspector"

Good luck!

By the way....if you really like fighting fires, you may want to look somewhere else. RCFD prevents fires and that works so well, they rarely have to fight them.

Reedy Creek has new Appearance and Demeanor Standards effective Oct. 1!!

As of October 1st Reedy Creek employees may now have mustaches and can shave their heads. Mustaches can not extend beyond the cornerss of hte mouth or over the upper lip. Beards are still unacceptable.

Side burns may now extend only to the middle of the ear. Previously they could go to the bottom of the ear.

Employees can grow mustaches out and don't have to do it on their own time!

Still no visible tatoos! For males, no visible piercings.

How long has it been since Disney let CMs grow facial hair?

I received my shirt the other day and I absolutely loved it. It arrived while we were at WDW. I wish I could have worn it there to support you guys, but I am still glad it is here now. I recommend it to everyone and to support you. The shirt gets quite a few compliments.

Has anyone picked up one of these shirts recently? I bought one in October and my husband is trying to claim it so I want another one. The online site is not letting me download the order form, so I was wondering if anyone knew if you could still pick one up in person since I will be there on Thursday. Thanks alot, guys!

Shirts are at the NEW FIRE STATION!!

You can pick up a shirt at Fire Station 4 at 1920 East Buena Vista Drive, Lake Buena Vista, FL. The station is located next to the Wyndham Palace Resort and is accross the street from the new Saratoga Springs Resort (site of the old Disney Institute, which was the site of the old Disney Village Convention Center).

Shirts are $15 when purchased at the station, $20 on line. I just downloaded the form without difficulty from the web site. You may have an old or corrupted version of Adobe Acrobat. :brick: Go to: http://www.reedycreek.org/merchandise.html and you will find all the links to get the lastest version (free).

Please feel free to stop by Monday through Friday from 0900 to 1700 (that is 9AM to 5PM).

Sorry I'll miss you on Thursday, but the C shift staff will be glad to help you out! :sohappy:

I appreciate the risks firefighters take, as should all of us. But I have trouble with all of the people on these boards who apparently have no clue what they are fighting for. I dont see anywhere where the workers state how they stack up to other firefighters in terms of pay and benefits. How many of us in private industry get pensions and relatively cheap health insurance? And finally, how many hours out of a full work day do these firemen actually spend working?

Sorry for the vent, but we as a nation pay way too much money in taxes as it is. And when looking at how governments works with the bureaucracy, slowness, red-tape, disgusting inefficiency, and worst of all the workers sense of "entitlement" to things such as pensions and free health care.

I may need to borrow a fire extinguisher from RCFD after people read this, sorry but these are my feelings.

Boy, I hope you are kidding! I know you are entitled to your own opinion, and I respect that. So, on behalf of the fire fighters... :p . I just don't think non-fire fighters realize how much work it takes to maintain a fire company. They do a lot more then run out the door and play with hoses every time the alarm goes off. They also have to maintain all the apparatus, tools, firehouse, paperwork, training... My company is an all-volunteer fire company and we spend at least 20 hours a week, each, just taking care of the fire company. We also spend numerous hours training. On top of that, we spend many hours raising money, just to keep our firehouse open. We get no pay, no benefits, nothing.
I think that these paid fire fighters do much more then you realize, besides the fact that they are risking their own lives to save you and your property, when needed. I think with that added risk, they need to know that their families will be taken care of in the event of a tragedy.
They are not paid nearly enough for the risk they take everyday.
I am not bashing your opinion, I am just trying to enlighten you a little. But as I said before, you are entitled to think the way you want. :)

Thanks for your reply and have you helped educate me on some of these issues. I think it is a disgrace if there is nothing in place for you in case of serious injury. This is the same problem with the military families getting only like $10k if they are killed in combat.

The government at the very least should pick up the cost of a decent life insurance policy for all firefighters so families are taken care of in the event of tragedy.

On another note though, I dont think public employees understand how good some of them have it ESPECIALLY with benefits/pensions, etc. Not to mention job security. What irked me was the blind support of people on these boards to spend our hard earned tax money before knowing or trying to know the other side. I dont think people realize how expensive it is to employ someone. I for one hate unions in this day and age, the corruption, the lack of true representation, and the politics.

I also keep hearing how firefighters are so underpaid. Just curious to hear from firefighters, what would be fair pay (in real dollars and benefits) for a full time, salaried firefighter? What does the government base their wages on?

You don't have to tell me twice about Unions. I have had some bad experiences with them, though it had nothing to do with fire fighters. However, I think that some times it is needed, to make sure that there is fair pay and benefits among workers.
As for the pay, I know some paramedics in my area who are paid less then $12 an hour, with minimal benefits. That is a disgrace. These people are your first line of defense, in the fight to save lives, and yet they are paid less then some fast food employees.
