Help! Going to Disney World with 22 yr. old guy

Well I am very excited about my next trip to Disney World. However, we are going with a guy who won't even watch a Disney movie and just wants to drink and go to the beach. We are staying at Pop Century and are going to Pleasure Island. Any recommendations for good drinks that I can tell him to get? I know from this forum that the kungaloosh is a must. I was just wondering if there were any others?

Any suggestions about drinks and/or activities would be greatly appreciated! I need him to have fun so I can have fun! Thanks!

Oh yeah. You should definately check out the Adventurers' Club (that's where you get the Kunglaloosh!). The guy you described sounds just like one of our friends who joined us on last year's trip (we stayed at Pop Century as well) - and he ended up going back to the AC three nights in a row. He got a real kick out of it. Personally, I could take it or leave it...but it was definately a unique kind of bar/entertainment experience.

My above mentioned friend also enjoyed heading to PI by himself each night and taking very late night dips in the pool while the rest of us were sleeping, so you could suggest that...I just wouldn't reccomend it (it's a real jolt when your hotel room door opens randomly in the middle of the night). :lookaroun

alex is 24, but he was 21 last time we went and he likes to try "beers around the world" at epcot. there is also a club at the boardwalk, i forget what it's called - we had fun there too. oh yeah, now i remember one thing that we did that was really fun. we were staying at the sports hotel and one night kinda late we went to the bar by the pool and got some drinks and drank them out by the pool and went swimming. good luck

I'm 22, but I'm a Disney aficionado - you wouldn't catch me going on a Disney trip and missing one day in the park; more or less even one attraction. But of course I do understand where you're coming from - my peers are mostly what you're describing. If I were to go to Disney with them I'd have to adjust my plans all together. My advice would be the following:

  • Water parks, water parks, water parks
  • If he likes golf, there's plenty of that around. Or a rousing game of put-put! :P
  • Pleasure Island (obviously)
  • Of course, all the thrill rides that are geared towards him
  • Innoventions would really interest him, there's a lot of neat exhibits and tours in there
  • Don't miss Lights, Motors, Action
  • Try going to Universal if at all possible. He'll get much more entertainment out of there and out of Citiwalk plaza there
  • Beers around the WS is the new fad; suggest that to him

I'm not much of a drinker and I never drink in a theme park with my family, EXCEPT when we go to EPCOT. I REALLY enjoy the different beers from Around the World. I especially enjoy Japan's and Norway's. This year I'm drinking a yard from England. I figure what's the harm, usually we walk back to BCV, and this year we'll be driven back to SSR.

Just wondering why you're taking him if he's going to be doing alternative stuff all the time - take me instead, I love Disney :)

First of all, you might just be able to convert him. My best friend went to WDW with her husband on their honeymoon. It was his first trip to WDW and he didn't really want to go. Now they plan on going every year!

I also think the Boardwalk area is fun...Jellyrolls!

I just got back from Pop Century, definately hit the bar there! The bar tenders were awesome and the drinks were good too! If he likes the frozen style drinks tell him to try the lava lamp. Its a great tasting drink plus its frozen and will cool him off a little.

In this last trip I took a friend who felt the same way about Disney as your guy does. But, by the third day he was skipping down mainstreet. I wouldn't worry too much about it. Disney World has soo many things that he'll find something that will catch his eye. There's something there for everyone!

Adventurers club on the first night would be a great way to get him into the disney spirit while at the same time letting him drink to his heart's desire... or his liver's capacity... whichever fills first... The jello shots they sell at PI are also fantastic, and the containers they come in might just put a smile on his face that'll open him up to disney a bit more... Or there's always the comedy club... Lots of Disney things there to get subliminally into his head while he thinks he's just watching an improv show... I can't imagine anyone of any age disliking DisneyWorld, so while I wish you luck, I don't think you'll need it :-)

If you can get him to go to Animal Kingdom, there is a really great outside bar in Africa near the bridge. They will serve up anything you can handle. Epcot is always good for drinking (especially the fiesta margaritas in Mexico). Also, my dad and I are drinking fools and like going to the boardwalk to Jellyrolls, Atlantic Dance Club, and ESPN restaraunt is great for watching sports and drinking a cold beer.

Drinking the countries is always fun and of course PI. At the Rock n' Roll beach club you can get a drink in a sand pale and they will keep refilling it for you....you can also get cool cups that glow in the dark.

I would also suggest doing something different like creating a scavenger hunt before you go...if you are going with a group you could split up into teams of 2 or 3 and collect stuff around Diz...example...find Peter Pan and take a picture with him. Doing funny stuff may break his "I have to be cool" attitude and help him enjoy the Disney magic!

In January 2003 I had a friend and his girlfriend come and join me at WDW. He is a HUGE party guy and when the two of us are together we can get a little loopy. He is super macho and was only coming for the spontaneity of flying to Florida for a weekend.

On the first night he was there we had a great time at Planet Hollywood. During the rest of his stay we had a few drinks during supper at O'Hana, a few at the Rose and Crown at Epcot and a few beer by the pool (it was late at night and we were just the four of us).

But I have to admit none of us were really in the mood for heavy partying. He was having such a great time and enjoying the attractions and magic of WDW that partying didn't seem to fit into the equation. Big old Macho guy was mesmerised by the fireworks at the end of the night and mentionned that he got goosebumps at the first sight of the castle.

All of this to say that your friend (although he may be a party animal) may be in a mode completely different than what you think. But if he ants to party there sure are places for it. Hell if my friend's favorite attraction can be It's a Small World, there is hope that your buddy may surprise you. Mine sure did.

I am one for hitting the parks from open to close and eat lunch and dinner in the lines to get the most out of the day, but sometimes I turn into your friend who just wants to sit around and have a beer or ten.

I suggest what everyone else has, beer in every country and the thrill rides.

Another idea is to let him rent a few boats and take them out on the lake. Of course, do this before he pops the top so everyone stays safe.

If that doesn't work, try parasailing or something like that over at the Contemp!

I bring a lot of my own alcohol to the world. I know it's a money saving move, but it helps when you go to PI to already have a buzz in full force! If he's anti Magic Kingdom, a few airplane bottles into the park will make the magical experience even better! Just hide them well!

I've had some expereince with buddies who like to party all the time. My suggestions:

Space Mountain, MS and RnRC - and ToT while you are there. Space Mountain cause everyone has to go on that no matter what.

PI - AC but also any of the dance clubs should suit a 22 yr old.

House of Blues - check out who is playing and see if he is interested.

Water Parks - lots of women in swim suits.

If all else fails, send him over to Daytona Beach.

Be careful sneaking booze into MK. I worked there one summer and saw young drunk guys making fools of themselves and eventually getting kicked out. You don't want to have to drag your sick drunk friend off the tea cups while familys with kids are watching.

I'm going with my boyfriend (who has a similar attitude) in August, but I'm not that worried and I don't think you should be either. While I am hoping to see him skipping down main street, like the young man i just read about:lol: , I don't really care. I'll be in Disney World!!! :dazzle:

But seriously, he'll be fine. There is plenty there for everyone - including an old sourpuss. He may not like your favorite ride but he will have a fave of his own. And he may even be able to get through the trip without the constant use of stimulents.
