Help! Going to Disney World with 22 yr. old guy

Well I am very excited about my next trip to Disney World. However, we are going with a guy who won't even watch a Disney movie and just wants to drink and go to the beach. We are staying at Pop Century and are going to Pleasure Island. Any recommendations for good drinks that I can tell him to get? I know from this forum that the kungaloosh is a must. I was just wondering if there were any others?

Any suggestions about drinks and/or activities would be greatly appreciated! I need him to have fun so I can have fun! Thanks!

Darn it, someone took my O'Hana's idea. But seriously, there are bars by the pools/beach at the Poly and then you can watch the fireworks from the beach, too.

Wow, those are some great ideas! Thanks everyone (I completely forgot all about the ESPN zone and that is right up his alley)! Now at least I can give him some alternatives instead of having him go to the parks and whine all day! I'm hoping he comes around, though!

He might enjoy DisneyQuest, too. A lot of guys are very into that.

DH absolutely loves video games (yes, he's in his thirties... Why'd ya ask?? ;)), and he was unimpressed with DQ. I tagged along with him and it was pretty run down and the CMs were the rudest ones I've ever encountered on WDW property.

So while S_Grise is right in that it is definitely worth mentioning to him, don't hype it up too much, because it may lead to disappointment!!!

I shouldn't assume anything, but is the Kungaloosh a drink? If so, what is in it? It sounds cool.

Dew

A Kungaloosh involves crushed ice, orange and strawberry juice, blackberry brandy and Captain Morgans Original Spiced Rum. Think of it as a lethal slush puppie!!

Having said that any of the AC cocktails are fabulous, theres even one for chocoholics the Yakoose Mousse with hot chocolate and creme de caco :slurp:

Good Drinks

I say that there is nothing like margaritas in Mexico!! 3 shots of tequilla in one drink. I just went to WDW after dieting for 22 weeks and as soon as I got to EPCOT it was straight to the Mexico pavilion for Strawberry margaritas. I bought 2 and had them finished by the time I got to Italy!! :slurp: :slurp: :slurp: :slurp: :D

I think the Outer Rim is still open at the Contemporary. Have a few drinks there and then just amble down to the pool area outside. Just happen to be there when the Electrical Water Pageant explodes nearby. It's completely unexpected.

It's a great hook in the tradition of great Disney hooks, like the old ending up in Hell at the end of Mr. Toad's Wild Ride.

There have been some great suggestions above.

He might turn out like me. The first time my future wife took me, I was not excited. I thought it was just a theme park chock full of roller coasters I didn't like.

then I saw the topiaries. etc. and we ended up that night at the Outer Rim at the Contemporary. And then just happened to go out to the pool area. And were sitting on a bench with our back to the water when the EWP exploded behind us.

We've only missed a couple of years since then and that was 26 years ago!

I'd say, set up the itinerary for things you want to do, and then toss him a copy of the Birnbaum book, or the Unofficial Guide in case he's afraid the pictures on every page will make him look like a big Jennifer. Tell him "We know what WE'LL be doing, but if any of it seems lame to you, this book will help you find something else you'd like to do. Have at it." If he's 22, enjoying himself is his responsiblity, not yours. Maybe he'll come around like dizknee's friend did, but if he's determined to think it's lame because there's no easy access to wet t-shirt contests, nickel pitchers or lap dances, don't let him hold you up on enjoying yourself.

Rent a stroller, take plenty of juice boxes so he doesn't get dehydrated, take snacks so he doesn't get cranky waiting in line.
Don't forget the value of a nap and a swim during the mid-day heat.

Oops--sorry. You said a 22 year old--not a 2 year old.

My BF is just like the person you are describing. When we took him to WDW for his first time this past January, I was nervous how he would be surrounded by so much Disney. I was afraid that while I would be thinking of what ride to go on next or what "Disney Adventure" should be next, he would be thinking of where he could get a cold beer or where the closest exit was.

I was pleasantly surprised.

He was a trooper, and my happiness and joy spread to him. I was completley caught off guard when he decided he wanted to ride CoP, floored when he wanted to start collecting pins (they, to this day, hang on his closet door for all to see), and amazed when he told me he would love to go back with me again.

Never once was he scared off by anything Disney. He didn't know what to expect, and I guided him in a way that I felt he would find comfortable. He loved it.

And he managed with only one beer and two mixed drinks at Pop!

Don't worry so much, let it come natural... things will work out just fine!!!
