I just read a tip on the All Ears® newsletter that "Heelys" are no longer allowed in Disney World. Can you verify if this is true? I was just buying my niece and nephews Heelys as well as a pair for myself to cruise around the parks on our family reunion event in May. When I was there last year every kid had them on. Has something happened?
Hi Tania!
This is not a new policy. Wheeled footwear such as "Heely"-type shoes, in-line skates, and roller skates have always been banned from the parks. This is also true of scooters and skateboards. It appears that park management has finally decided to fully enforce this rule, probably due to the fact that so many people are suddenly arriving in the parks wearing "Heelys."
I've recently heard rumors that guests wearing "Heelys" were threatened with fines, so to avoid an unpleasant experience, it would be better to leave the wheels at home

No matter where you go the grocery store, Target, or Walt Disney World these shoes should banned everywhere! I cannot count the number of times that kids run me over or I almost hit them with a cart bc of the gotta there fast in my heely's attitude. Sad part is the parent's are usually in sight and do not stop them! Even though Disney has banned them I did see kids in heely's and using them. They are a gold mine for the inventor but they are ultra annoying!

On our last trip in June, we saw Disney Security escort a young guest out of the parks wearing Heelys. From what I overheard, the parents were advised they could return once they were all wearing proper footwear. It's the only time I saw anyone actually removed from the parks for wearing them, but a lot of times, there just weren't any cast members around to see them. They're certainly not a safe thing to wear around the parks as we saw a young girl take a nasty fall in the Epcot parking lot while trying to glide across wet pavement in those things. And the parents just kept walking like it was nothing...

I, too, have seen lots of kids in the parks with the Heelys on. We've pointed out to our kids that it's really not allowed and those kids are breaking the rules. Good to hear that Disney does do something to enforce the rules.

Now that I think about it, it was seeing these kids in the parks scooting around that prompted my DH to make one of his statements, "My kids will NEVER have those things!" Silly man. DS10 got his first pair with his birthday money in November. He had them on twice and decided he hated them. They're in his closet in the original box. DS11 got his first pair from his little brother as a gift for Christmas. He's worn them a few times but isn't so impressed. We don't let the boys wear them in public places and they certainly are banned from school. WDW is the last place on earth I'd let them wear the things. If they want to "Heely" they can do it outside at home same as rollerblade.

BTW, my boys were far more impressed by the blades I got them for Christmas. :D

I hate those things. While we were at Disney in Oct of 06, we saw a bunch of people with them on. Soon after I read where they were not allowed. This past trip I didn't see one person in the parks wearing them, and I was glad. They are dangerous.

Hate Heely's

We were there in October and we too were very annoyed by how many people allowed their kids to knock in to our smaller children. The kids wearing them were very rude and we too said our kids will never get those shoes. I am glad to hear Disney is doing something about it!

They are against WDW rules. Of course, many people think rules don't apply to them, and they ignore them, and no one catches them.

I really don't think there is anything more to add to this thread, so I think I'll lock it before it becomes a let's bash/defend kids wearing Heelys. Thank you. :)
