Have they ever cancelled fireworks on short notice at WDW before

I’ve heard that from Several cast members in the past. If it’s not a law then it might be Disney’s policy which is why they’d prefer to delay them even if it goes to past midnight. Rather than cancel them entirely. Cause it’s much safer to just fire them off than to unload them.
It is not even realistic to delay past midnight. In operations are the cast going to be forced to extend past their shift to keep the park open for a few more hours for a fireworks show?

We've all heard the stories of firework shows going off in the middle of night from near-by resorts at both Epcot and MK. If a show can't go on as planned during scheduled park hours, they typically fire the rounds off overnight.

I'm fairly sure it's federal law (ATF) that you can't leave regulated pyro loaded and unattended. So you can either A) unload it all and return it to the magazine, which is dangerous (unloading) and may not be permitted (returning to the magazine), or B) station people at the pyro all night until you do fire it.

I find this discussion fascinating. I remember some years ago, it was discussed that if Disneyland's Halloween Screams fireworks was cancelled and DL's next day was a non-party day that those visitors would have lucked out at a chance to see Halloween Screams in all of its glory which is normally locked behind an upcharge.

I also remember it being discussed that Disneyland never unloads fireworks as a safety rule although I wouldn't be surprised if my recollection was wrong. Maybe one of the reasons why it is this way is that Anaheim's residents wouldn't appreciate an "extra" fireworks show.

Although, if any DL insiders are reading this thread, I am interested to know that when a show is cancelled and "kept" overnight if Disneyland's firework's site requires less scrutiny as it is (to the best of my knowledge) within a security perimeter. DL is my home park/resort, but I was a CP at WDW and I was kind of flabbergasted the first time I saw Magic Kingdom's firework launch site right next to a public road with only the barest of security to keep the public from walking up to the launch tubes.

Also, does anyone have any insight why Epcot didn't apply a similar policy for fireworks shot from the Illumination barge(s?). Doing so would have saved Disney not a small amount of money on their next order of fireworks if they hold loaded, but unused fireworks for the next evening.

I don't think that IllumiNations stopped for anything. The show doesn't involve any live actors, so it can go off no matter what. I was there when it was raining so hard that you couldn't even see the central barge, yet the show went on.

Firework debris and strong winds is not a good mix and is a danger to the ones watching the show for sure.
Is that why I had a shirt stained by debris many years ago? Standing near Rose & Crown. They will run shows in high winds, except maybe in California.

. . .a fellow guest at Illuminations had to be transported to the hospital with firework debris lodged in their eye.
I had this happen to me once. I felt a sharp sting on my head, so I slapped my head a few times. The guy next to me was looking at me strangely, so I asked if something had just happened. He said "Man, your head was on fire!" I got a few bucks from Disney shortly after.

Former CM who played Gaston 22year old Devon Staples launched a firework off the top of his head on July 4th, 2015 when in Maine. He passed away from his injuries.

Over the years it's been called off because of "inclement weather", thunder storms pop up with little notice in central Florida... We were there for the 4th of July in 2018 and it was raining, so the fireworks at MK and Epcot were delayed an hour or more until the rain let up, but the parks were also open late that night for the holiday
