HAUNTED TIKI MUG

There are people reporting online that at least some stores are out of the Haunted Mansion Tiki mugs and that they were sold out when they asked CMs. Apparantly Trader Sams is for sure out. Which stores have the mugs and do they usually get in new shipments ever?

I didn't know more than 1 location would sell them.

According to one of the sites I'm following, they said they were out for the day (6pm PT) and to come back Saturday...I wonder if they will only release a certain number a day/week?

I am shocked by how little on are eBay right now (well, with the exception of the 40+ dude). I'll say I gave into it earlier- I purchased one from someone for $43...got an email later confirming he had it in hand and was shipping

Ah, sorry. I was just assuming it'd be more than one store. If you haven't heard anything about multiple stores then just try and ignore the way I worded it and assume I'm wrong with that. I'm gonna edit that post.

I am hoping they are drip feeding the supply of mugs because that's probably the most fair distribution to minimize the damage of sharking and get mugs into as many different people as possible instead of someone hoarding them. The only issue is people having to camp outside the store to have a chance but there's really nothing anyone can do about that.

Do you know if the mugs are dishwasher safe, btw? I'm unlikely to get a mug since I'd have to do it online through ebay but I'm just curious how durable the paint jobs are.

Sam's is the only place that will sell them. They will get more shipments.

DisneylandToday was telling people on Twitter that they are sold out and that's all there is. I wouldn't expect another shipment until September 2017 if that's true.

This mug is a perfect example of what I want from Disneyland merchandise. Something unique that combines park attractions and celebrates them. I wish it wasn't sold out.

I was disappointed with most of the 60th merchandise because I felt like it focused to much on diamonds and just bedazzling the mickey ears and shirts, as opposed to selling stuff that actually celebrates the park, like this mug.

Is this the tweet you're referring to?

The Hitchhiking Ghost Tiki Mugs currently remain sold out. Please stay tuned as more information becomes available.

I'm interpriting it as there's the possibility they could get more shipments in with them saying "currently sold out" and saying to stay tuned (common bait to sub or not touch that dial I know but still). Obviously everyone here is hoping for more shipments but if they don't

1.They don't care about sharking which is made worse by "limited edition" items, defeating the purpose of devoted fans being given a reasonable period to come and get the item instead of sharks getting the entire stock and selling them on ebay for a much longer period for a jacked up price Disney doesn't get a cut of

2. The section that manages this is incompitent, isn't aware of sharking and isn't keeping up with demand

No, that tweet came later. This morning they were saying they were all out and sorry for the disappointment. Then they changed to stay tuned, so maybe they're working on getting more.

It's amazing how incompetent the merch team can be. You have to KNOW your product. Fans love the mansion. They love the tiki mugs. So order a ton of them. Mind blowing.

They also said the mugs are not limited edition but when they are sold out, they are gone...but one of the flyer things posted showed only 2,500...it's so confusing! I wish they would just say 1 way or another.

I wonder if the merchandise team even realizes that they're losing money by not meeting the demand of the mugs. It's literally the first thing taught in Econ 101. There are a ton of people screaming "I want to give you my money" and Disney is responding "I don't want it"

The problem of all this is that a cast member leaked a backstage flyer a few months ago and the photo was retweeted, regrammed, shared, etc etc thousands of times since between Disney, tiki, and haunted mansion communities. On that photo were various order numbers, codes, dates, and number of mugs produced. The anticipation created for this mug grew exponentially over the next few months until we reached yesterday, Sept 9th. By 8am people were already lined up, whereas had the plan hitched as Disney intended (i.e. NO leaking) then it wouldn't have been formally announced or more importantly expected until that day.

If the mug were only announced on the 9th I guarantee there wouldn't have been the lines wrapping around Sam's for the entire day. A mug that was intended to have a slow or trickle release instead drained like a dry well in a matter of 8 hours. I was told there were about 1200 mugs available, which clearly wasn't intended or designed to be depleted in one day.

In the end, you could blame Disney, but instead I blame the cast member who leaked the clearly confidential information. Disney had clearly laid everything out to last 2 months (Halloween Time) and instead somebody spoiled it for everybody.

It's eating all your food at once instead of rationing it.

If their plan had been followed with no leaks, within hours on the 9th word would have gotten out and they would have sold out on the 10th. Anyway you slice it, they didn't order near enough for a product that everyone should have realized would have been huge.

I agree , and it seems to me that Park specific, Attraction based merch is tops for fans and collectors.
Whenever a item comes out that is decent and related to a favorite Attraction, people just eat it up.

You would think after all the success with various Attraction related peices the folks in charge of designing the merchandise would come up with more of it.
It always seems to be sold only online or in limited quantities, like they are concerned that they won't sell a lot of it and these things will be gathering dust on a warehouse shelf.

Every time a see a decent item come out that is Attraction specific, it seems to sell well.
I can think of a couple of times I saw something cool and then when I returned to the Park I couldn't find it anywhere.

Take my money, Mickey...and make more Attraction specific stuff!
I am still waiting for my 'Disneyland Big Thunder Mountain Railroad' play set, dang it!

There's a fine line Disney has to walk with certain merchandise items. If they make to little of something, they lose a ton of revenue. If they make to many to satisfy all demand, the value as a collector's piece decreases significantly. Either way, Disney should have made thousands more of these than they did.

No way, not even next day quick. People had months prepare and spread the hype, take a day off work, etc. There's no way that would have been matched overnight when guests would have had to go inside like any other mug release in the past. That's why the Jack mugs and diamond mugs took longer to disappear over months and months. It's much easier to grab and go when there's a station outside than to go through the normal process.

Why should Disney care about the value as a collector's piece?
