Haunted Mansion

And before anyone points to Hocus Pocus as an example of a Halloween movie released in the summer, remember that Hocus Pocus FLOPPED hard on its initial release and only became popular after TV reruns and VHS sales.
In fairness, Hocus Pocus didn't have a Disney+ to land on just in time for the Halloween season.

Pretty sure that's what Disney's counting on with this one. It's not gonna make big money at the Box Office, but it'll get streamed a billion times across the month of October. Unless it's that bad.

Seems like that's part of why the release date was moved up - Open in theaters in September and you can't double-dip like that. But if it's in theaters in the summer and then available at home through the Halloween season it'll do numbers you'd never see if it hit Disney+ in, like, January.

Although I've thought the trailers look terrible, I'll still probably give it a look when it hits Disney+.

I may turn it off after five minutes... or wish I had like with Jungle Cruise. :p

The ridiculously low limited number tickets to the event that where mostly sold to bots to be scalped later. It can't be very many.
I don’t know the actual number but the whole event isn’t huge to begin with, so it makes sense for it to be very limited for even D23 Gold members.

There is no hype for this movie, all I'm hearing about is Barbie and Oppenheimer. This should have been delayed. :(

Agreed. What a strange release date for haunted movie.

My guess - and that's all it is: a guess - is they swapped this with The Marvels to give that one a better chance with less competition, essentially sacrificing this one in the process.

They may even be planning a quick trip to D+ in time for Halloween and are probably seeing it as a perennial holiday movie meaning that sooner-or-later, it's sure to turn a good profit where as with The Marvels there is a bigger budget on the line along with not having the potential multi-decade legs that this one might* and of course, on the Marvel side, they're dealing a theatrical audience that seems less excited about super hero movies not featuring Spider Man so I'm sure they're looking for all the help they can get with that one.

So yeah, I think this is a play to save The Marvels which, aside from being a big financial hopeful for Disney in and of itself, is also a piece of a bigger MCU pie they are still trying to nurse back to health.

*assuming it's not dog $h!t like the Eddy Murphy one.

In a little bit of marketing genius in my opinion, Haunted Mansion is listed for sale ahead of movie premiere.

Okay, now that is clever as hell. I love it. 🤣
