Well, let's hope they take an overall view while they're at it. Maybe fix the sound system everybody is always complaining about?

I hope they fix the sound system, the "jerkiness" of the turning, and add some more "well-thought out" effects like the new tombstone outside.

From Steve's post, it sounds like the stretsh rooms will be the focus.

fixing the Doom Buggies would take FAR longer than two weeks. This rehab will probably just involve some repainting and perhaps some work on the stretching mechanisms so you don't hear a loud bang the second the room starts stretching.

Stretching Dooms

The Haunted Mansion has two stretch rooms, which we'll call "Room 1" and "Room 2." Both rooms are typically used during normal operation of the attraction. Guest loads alternate between rooms.

Now, would someone PLEASE explain to me - with the immense popularity of the attraction - why in the world would they need to close the entire attraction to refurbish the stretch rooms? The logical person would conclude that refurb on Room 1 leaves Room 2 open for operation, and vise versa.

And just in case the refurb contractors told WDW, "We either work on both rooms at the same time or we work on nothing," (highly unlikely), guests could easily be routed from the lobby through a "cm" door and into the loading area. This shouldn't pose any problems seeing as how the attraction is omni-mover based. And guests who have never visited the attraction before would have no reason to believe that this isn't exactly the way the attraction should be.

Just my thoughts,

Tk

That's why I think they'll be checking other stuff while at it, even if small touch-ups here and there.

Well, the first time I rode it I was 11. I had no idea what to expect, so I saw the name, the tour guide translated it to Portuguese, I took a look at the graveyard, and CRIED my eyes out throughout the whole thing... My mom was pretty embarassed, specially because my 8 year old brother was fine with the whole thing...

...my parents dragged me thru it when I was 6 years old and I was terrified....now...I love it of course :)

A post on rec.arts.disney.parks says that the rooms' hydraulic lifting systems will be replaced with electric ones.

As for why they can't just change them one at a time, maybe the systems are shared in some way?

Maybe, or maybe they have to romove certian panels that effect both rooms or have to have more lighting in there to safely work on the system and it would be dangerous for guests and workers while this was going on. maybe their insurance company required it. even disney has to comply with the law.

This is terrible!!!:fork:

HM is one of our favorite attractions and it will be closed for the length of our visit!! And to make matters worse, we're going with a group that hasn't been in years and years and they all love the HM... This is really going to be a downer to everyone when I break the news...
