Haunted Mansion rehab

As for why they can't just change them one at a time, maybe the systems are shared in some way?

If this is true, I would think that much reconstruction would need to be done to remove systems. I would also think that large amounts of noise will be coming from this as well.

Would you want to be hearing construction next door while in the other room? I'm thinking that there will be noise anyway.

Another thing to think about is that the ride normally operates with both rooms stretching. This helps keep lines moving in a somewhat orderly manner. By shutting one room down, that means you have to wait longer to get in, increasing wait times, and really disrupting the ride.

Not only would there be loud noises next door if they kept open one stretch room, but the worklights would ruin most effects. And I am sure they will need both doors open to do things. This means in the foyer and on the other side. Guests would see that too.

I too am a little upset at the timing. I have a website dedicated to the Haunted Mansion and was excited about seeing it again. I guess I will have to go the first 2 days of my vacation before they rehab it (Sept. 1 & 2).

As for guest flow through one room in September. They usually only use one anyway because crowds are minimal exept for holidays and weekends.

Maybe, or maybe they have to romove certian panels that effect both rooms or have to have more lighting in there to safely work on the system and it would be dangerous for guests and workers while this was going on. maybe their insurance company required it. even disney has to comply with the law.

It goes way beyond safety. The reason is they need to turn on the work lights and because of this the themeing would be taken away since the HM is a dark ride and they would not operate because of this

NOOOOOOOO!!!

Dang it, I have never ridden this ride with my eyes open and I'm hoping to get to ride and see it for the first time...I guess I'll have to make a point to go see it on the 21st before we leave the next day.

I don't think there'st that much to lift, its just the upper walls! Its not nearly as complicated as the floor, which moves up and down in DL.

Someone mentioned queueing through a CM door. It would never happen. CM access doors are very narrow, and for emergency exits only. In fact, I think its almos directly after the exit to the strech room on the longer wall. It says something like "CM's ONLY" or something like that. If its not busy, you could probably see it easily.

That door heads directly to the exit, you can't board from the exit the way it is set up. You would be walking against the moving floor too.

Okay, you might want to skip this post, because I am going to whine for a minute.

I am taking my girlfriend and her little brother to WDW for the first time the week of September 9th.

First, I am aware that the Carousel of Progress will probably not be open while I am there. Fine, I can accept that.

Then I learned that Norway, Malestrom, and other parts of World Showcase are being refurbished. Okay, I can live with that too.

Then I find out that the castle is being repainted. Okay, I know that needs to be done as well. Though I wish my girlfriend and her brother did not have to see the castle for the first time with a crane in front of it, I am not going to let that spoil my trip.

Now I find out the mansion is going to be down during our visit. I am starting to get upset now.

I am a long time WDW guest and a loyal Disney consumer. I continually praise the parks for their quality, cleanliness, and friendly and safe atmosphere, and I have been more than willing to pay price increases over the years. This is the first trip I have planned where I am beginning to feel that it is not worth the money anymore.

I am extremely frustrated by the limited hours at the Magic Kingdom (according to the official website, the park is closing at 6:00PM - come on folks, this is the resort's signature and most popular park) and I have heard that a number of attractions throughout the resort are operating on limited hours.

I traditionally go in the fall, so I know that I will not be seeing Spectromagic, but I remember enjoying the Magic Kingdom into the evening during past visits.

What really irks me - and please correct me if I am wrong - are the surprise rehabs. I remember a time (and I hope I am not mistaking this with Disneyland, but I don't think I am) when rehabs were announced months in advance, and I planned my trip around them. If I knew all of this was going on (and I wonder what else I will learn is going to happen in the next two weeks leading up to my trip), I would have planned my vacation for a different time.

Are any other rehabs going to pop up?

Sorry for venting, but I find this very frustrating.

When you are down there, you should tell them what you think. (About the rehabs, suprise rehabs, hours, price during the rehabs, etc) As you leave the MK park, there are CM's with clipboards that you can talk to. They are part of the "Quality Control" research group and want to know how their guests feel about their parks and their visit that day.

With enough people commenting about the rehabs, maybe they will look into some other alternative.

They don't onlly have clipboards. When I was at Animal Kingdom in '99, the Quality Control people had aincient Apple Newton PDA's. Why Newtons instead of IBM Workpads (which they probably could have gotten for free, and are just Palm Pilots with a different name on them) I don't know. They listen to everyone though, even my 6 year old brother at the time!

I have to agree with everyone else. HM is one of my favorite rides. We will be there Sept. 14 thru 21, so maybe we will get to ride it on our last day.

Look at it like this. If they announced that they were going to do the HM rehab in july you might change your plans and wait to go when the rehab was done and attendance may fall due to this. So they wait till a few weeks before to give some notice that this a planed event and not clousure from a malfunction like you find outabout at the last minuite. I have been to WDW and gone to one of the Parks to find that one of my favorite rides is closed that day.

Okay, then maybe I am still longing for a Walt Disney World of the past, where it seemed that the resort genuinely cared for its guests by announcing such things ahead of time to make planning easier and a trip just a little more enjoyable.

So I should be expecting Walt Disney World to trap me into attending regardless of what they doing? Right? I am sorry, but I think they should announce these things to their guests ahead of time (and I think they used to - please someone correct me if I am wrong. I would really like to know if I am mis-remembering this).

I think my longing for the Walt Disney World of old is my major problem. I am aware that money has always been the end goal for the Walt Disney Company and its many divisions. Maybe they were just better at hiding then than they are now. The end of early entry, the proliferation of ODV carts every five feet it seems (and I don't know, maybe that was Disneyland too), limited hours to cut costs . . . just seems a little obvious to me.

I know why they are closing the park(s) early - they want me to spend my money at their restaurants outside the parks and at Downtown Disney or Pleasure Island. The Haunted Mansion, in and of itself, is not a money-making thing.

I know why the parks are closing early during the week, too. There are very few guests. I mean it is ridiculous working in Space Mountain in the mornings and running the ride as slow as possible and still running out of guests. And this is one of the most popular rides in the park. It picks up later on in the day, but not really all that much. and then, by the end of the day it is deserted in there again. If it wasn't for all the British toursts, there would be no one there at all. As much as I want more hours to work, I don't see any justification for the park being open longer hours until we actually have guests to fill the attractions.

You have a point ... WDW does want you to spend your time in the other parts of the Resort but I don't look at it as a problem. There is still a lot to do! We have been there during January when the hours are short and had time to enjoy everything. Smaller crowds meen shorter wait times and the ability to experience more. As for re-habs, that is an unfortunate fact of life at a year round theme park. Catastraphe Canyon (one of my favs) was closed last week when we were there. I just sighed and enjoyed something else. The beauty of WDW is that there is such a diversity of things to experience. It is also another unfortunate fact of our times that attendance is down everywhere. This does mean less $$ coming in and does require some cutbacks in hours and services. I still think dollar for dollar WDW is the BEST destination available. USF and IOA can't hold a candle to it! But that is just my two cents worth. I will now vacate the soap box ... NEXT!

She's a lesbian, she doesn't wear much if any.

Want to scare an adult... tell them the price of the AA figure of Ellen. When installed it was the MOST expensive figure.
