drumbum, i don't think that's what RedBaron meant. the new floating Leota is only at Disneyland and I believe it was originally going to tie into the movie more closely, but the film wasn't the kind of "potc" phenomenon that they were hoping for, so they didn't publicize it as such. jennifer tilly even promoted the movie saying that she was going to replace Leota Tombs and Elanor Audley in the attraction itself. thankfully that didn't happen

I thought the movie tried really hard to be good, but eddie murphy (and tilly) ruined it. the sets, costumes and music (except for the terrible end credits song) were great however
I still can't figure out what the end credits song had to do with anything. It came totally out of nowhere and was completely unrelated to the entire movie. Does anyone know why they selected that, unless it was to help theaters get customers out of the theater so they could begin cleanup sooner.

the only thing that i can think of, is that it was racial pandering. i can picture some stupid white executive saying "hey! our movie has black people in it, we need a rap song!"
if I was African American, i'd be offended... heck, i'm white and i'm offended anyway!

I think any addition to the HM to further the story along would be great. As a HUGE fan of the HM I already know the story line. But many guests do not because it is very sketchy due to many imagineer differences when creating it. There are 2 areas where they could add a small scene: The spiderweb area and possibly the roof area when coming out of the attic. I'm not sure what they would add from the movie but it would have to fit in well enough in these areas so they make sense. The movie was made to basically promote an old attraction so it gets a boost of attendance. I aggree the sets, music and effects were great but I didn't care for the Eddie Murphy family storyline. But of all the movie made so far from Disney attractions (HM, POC and Country Bears), the HM movie by far has the most referances to the actual attraction.

Rap is supposed to offend, listen to some of the lyrics. I mean my metal can be just as offensive, but most people can't understand the words anyway. I HATE rap. My friends poke fun at me because I have a competition sound system in my car, but I turn the highs down enough on my eq so you just hear the bass while "crusing".

That's exactly what I thought too. I agree with what someone else said, it did feel like the HM movie was trying to be good, but it was flat out awful. The sets, costumes, sfx, and musical score ( minus the rap ) were spectacular, but the flat performance by Eddie Murphey, annoying performances by Jennifer Tilly and Wallace Shawn, and a confusing bizarre story ruined it. They kept going on about how there was a curse on the mansion, what curse?! What curse are they talking about?! Who made this curse?! Why was it put on the mansion in the first place?! And the ending was so cheesy. Master Gracy turned out to be a good guy? Yeesh. Still, it wasn't nearly as bad as the Country Bears. That movie was flat out embarrassing. Let's just hope that the Jungle Cruise movie is better.

Sorry, had to rant a little.

It's definitely a male (I believe it's supposed to be Master Gracey)......but that shows how bad the storyline of the attraction is.

On my trip in June, my family did the Keys to the Kingdom tour... and the story from our CM guide, Matthew (he was AWESOME), is the hanging corpse is male... but thats it from the official story line of the park. The Haunted Mansion is just a "retirement home for ghosts," officially. Personally I like the made up storyline better from Doombuggies.com.

Hopefully the refurb will incorporate a real, official story that makes sense and is intriguing.

The HM movie didn't do well enough to warrant a movie addon. That won't be happening.

There is no official storyline, that's what makes it so cool. All the story is made up by cast and guests and passed along. And if you can tell me who Master Gracey really is, you get a cookie* :)

*NOTE: I do not actually have any cookies.

He's named after Yale Gracey, who worked with (for a major portion atleast) Rolly Crump on the special effects for the "Haunted House". He and Rolly spent most of (I believe it was) 1959 in a little room experimenting with anything and everything to create the very best effects and gags (not sight gags, that was Marc Davis) for the then-walkthrough attraction for new orleans Square.

Eh old news....FYI (if the guy didn't know too), the gravestone with Master Gracey on it was put there as a tribute to him.....brilliant man IMHO:king:

I never understood the complaint about HM not having a storyline. Why does it need one? Do Space Mountain or Big Thunder Mountain have storylines? Not that I can discern, and it certainly doesn't detract from the fun on either of those rides. Isn't wandering through an EXTREMELY haunted house enough of a storyline?

Personally I loved the HM movie, not because it was a good movie, but because of all the references to the ride. I thought the storyline and acting was horrible, but the references to my favorite ride of all time were enough to make me watch it twice.

I thought Big Thunder Mountain Railroad had a storyline. How are they going to make a movie version of it, if it doesn't? :lookaroun

The HM has a story, it just doesn't really have a plot.

The story is that we're visiting this spooky house, there's a disembodied voice beckoning us in. At first we see a bunch of creepy inexplicable things. We run into the ghost of a fortune teller, through her and our "sympathetic vibrations", the 999 ghosts appear, and are having a party in the graveyard. At the end, some decide to come along with us.

A plot would explain why the house is haunted (and to that degree) and exactly what we're doing there. There would be some conflict with an antagonist and resolution of some kind. The DL manse has gotten a new story element in the murdering bride and her husbands, but it still doesn't quite explain anything.

And you know what, that's fine. Ghosts are more fun when you're not sure exactly what's going on anyway. The WDW mansion cast members have created a backstory for nearly every character in the place, but in my opinion its too convoluted and bogged down in details (for example, they have all the historic and international graveyard ghosts explained as guests of a costume party, which is a bit contrived)
