Has there been any word/rumors about the Night Kingdom Project?

If they did wish to have a 5th gate ready in a decade they better get started now, as at their current rate of construction it will take 10 years to build it, as just one land is taking 3 from groundbreaking, 4 or more from conception for Avatar land now that its been pushed back to 2017 and only consists of 2 attractions.
When you think Disneyland was built in a yearo_O what hapened to this companie:banghead: (I don't need answer)

If Michael Eisner was still taking care of Walt Disney World, we may already have five parks, maybe a sixth one under construction.
Why would you want 6 or even 5 parks?

There is only one fully functional park as it is.

3 parks are on life support and have been since Eisner.

Animal Kingdom can still be considered almost unnecessary if Epcot and The Studios were fully flushed out.

The Studios never survived the cutting of the full Back Lot Tour. LMA was the absolute worst possible use of such prime land.

Epcot had already withered away by then as well with the death of Horizons, WoM, and Wonders of Life. Seas and Imagination never recovered and the refreshing of World Showcase never has happened.

I was just thinking out loud. Yes, three of the four parks need help (especially the Studios and Epcot), but if Eisner continued to invest in the existing parks AND build new ones, it would have been even better.

With Epcot in disrepair, AK (just now SLOWLY) getting new stuff, and Hollywood Studios essentially being a catch-all "closet" for all the crap that doesn't fit into the other parks...I don't see how the heck they could build a fifth park and convince any of us that it's worth nearly $100 like the other parks supposedly are...

Besides, if Pleasure Island (designed for adults mostly) didn't survive...a whole park geared like this wouldn't have...I'm actually kinda glad this idea is deceased...has joined the choir invisible, has had the spark of it's life extinguished...

This is an ex-park idea!

Eisner did many amazing things in the beginning of his career with Disney, but lets not forget what the last 10 years of his leadership brought... Theme parks opening with no attractions (Hong Kong) Barely fleshed out concepts and off the shelf rides (DCA) a total lack of upkeep and maintenance that caused the almost demise of many attractions... the continual slashed and value engineered budgets resulting in sub par offerings (Rocket Rods)... If Eisner had added an 5th and 6th gate at WDW you can be assured they would have been little more than lightly themed shopping and dining experiences... Never forget Eisner brought in Paul Pressler and Cynthia Harriss...

Oh, how sad. Trying to be relevant by trotting out 2005-08 era crazy talk of fifth gates. Sad.

And since the boutique animal park is dead and not coming back, the thread should likely be as well.

I remember hearing about this back when Pleasure Island initially closed.

It would have been an evening experience with limited hours and a limited capacity with a premium price, similar to SeaWorlds Discovery Cove.
Dead, dead, dead, dead, dead, deader than Atlanta's Olympic legacy!

Night Kingdom was a dumb idea anyway. Animal Kingdom is boring enough during the day, when you can actually see everything. I can't imagine what a night-time version could offer to lure in enough guests to make the cost of it worthwhile. Good riddance.

Sure you can swim with dolphins up the street ... but here, you can toss lettuce at a hippo from 20 feet away!!!

The concept always felt kind of desperate and out of touch with the market. Like trying to build an immersive land ala Hogsmeade or Radiator Springs based on Avatar.

One of the reasons Disney developed Celebration was when they realized that five parks was all they would ever need, given the length of vacations and the amount to do in each park. Not that I really ever expect to see even a fifth park, but if ever happens, I expect it to be the last.

why does everyone seem to think that the "night kingdom" idea involved animals? from my understanding it was more of like an adult park idea, since the adult aspects were what was destroyed when pleasure island closed.

Still a doubter. How sad. Actually the night safari was going to happen whether Pandora had turned into something else or not. It was inevitable that DAK would be utilized in the evening. They are having to expand at DAK and DTD due to demand. And it likely makes a 5th gate inevitable in a decade or so. IMO.
$100 to a charity that Universal opens a 3rd gate before Disney opens a 5th... you pick the charity.

I have no doubt you are right. Disney has the luxury of being in a position to counter whatever Uni does. That is a position of strength and not weakness.

Do any of us really want another panic add in the manner of MGM?

I think Uni's 3rd gate will be announced within a year or two. Just a hunch.

pleasure island was doing great when it was actually pleasure island! it didnt have any issues until they stopped charging to get onto the island. as this allowed children and teenagers to be too close to the clubs, and destroyed the street party atmosphere.. and resulted in complaints of parents not wanting their children to be around drunk and the path thru pleasure island turning into a cut thru to get from the marketplace to the west side.. also they did some funky stuff with setting up stages and stuff creating major loitering problems attracting local teens that began causing trouble.

i really dont think celebration has anything to do with limiting future parks, as disney still has enough land to pursue additional parks if it chooses, and i highly doubt they would of chosen to place a park in the location of celebration anyways due to its location on the opposite side of I-4

Uni just has to figure out a solution to their impending land crunch problem, which is much the same issue Walt had with Disneyland in california which is why he tried to get as much land as possible for WDW

Looking at the aerial maps of Universal's property though it appears that the new Cabana Bay Beach Resort took the last of their property. They now have a high school on one side, a lake and development on the other, and a large highway on the last side. They would either have to buy land on the other side of the highway which would be really disconnected or build in the parking area. They could potentially move the parking to the other side of the highway but it would require a monorail/boat level transit system like the MK has x3 parks to support the setup. It seems more likely that they would keep expanding existing parks back into the employee parking lot instead since that area would not allow for a 3rd main entrance connected to the hub that they have.

And how far off was that? So it was four and a third years?

Also, when I made that statement absolutely nothing was coming ... you may recall that Burbank stepped in and forced the project because MK capacity issues were viewed as seriously affecting guest satisfaction/desire to return.

C'mon, it's 2014 ... do you have any current material, Frank?

It will be interesting to see how far off he is on the 5th gate time frame.

Considering that ignorant fanbois have been blathering on about it since before DAK even debuted, I feel very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very safe in my bet of NEVER!

I will put this in the, "Pandora will never happen because Cameron" file as that folder's contents went to the recycle bin.
