Has anyone seen Cat in the Hat?

I don't have any real intentions on seeing this movie...nothing that I have seen in the previews or anything has appealed to me...however...the local critic here in milwaukee loved it...and he can be tough on movies....he said the movie worked on two levels....one for the kids...and another for adults...he described the humor for adult being intelligent...and said they did not dumb down the humor just beacause "their audience consisted primarily of 10 year olds"....it sort of had me wondering if it could be better then I anticiapated.

Well, I like the story, I like Mike Myers and I really liked The Grinch, so... We'll see. Sure, there are some differences, there were differences on Grinch, but I just don't think they'd destroy the story that much, doesn't Seuss' widow has a LOT of say on his movies? I remember she was there for everything on Grinch, from sets to lines, they show it on the DVD's making of.

And hey, with Disney showing Bad Santa and Haunted Mansion with a rap theme song, we really can't say much about Universal's potty humor...

I am a big fan of both Dr Suess and Mike Meyers. But I really have no desire at all to see this movie. When you figure it costs us a good $25 to go to the movies these days, we don't go unless it's something we REALLY are dying to see. And something about the Cat In The Hat trailer just creeps me out.

I saw it last night with my friends, and I was not at all impressed. I don't mind suggestive humor at all in some movies, but in a kiddie movie, it just doesn't seem right, especially in The Cat in the Hat. The Cat was just creepy looking (like, child molester creepy) and Thing 1 and Thing 2 were even creepier. Sean Hayes does a good job as a double role, and Dakota Fanning is an amazing actress for a 9 year old, but I do not recommend spending 5 bucks on an 80 minute embarassment.
Just my 2 cents

Hey People who are worried about a rap song in The Haunted Mansion Movie, don`t fret it, they only play the rap song at the end when the credits are going up the screen.:D I just got back from The pre screening, I loved the Haunted Mansion movie, all my fears were layed to rest! :D :sohappy:

For me, it's not the idea that the movie didn't suck, but that it should have atleast CARRIED OVER THE GENERAL IDEAS AND WAYS OF IT'S SUBJECT. It's like having A Beautiful Mind in a space while fighting aliens, it just dosn't work. Pirates kept the general theme and way of the ride, from the looks of THM, it dosn't look like it. Now as for the rap song, Disney dosn't need to have a rap song with bad lyrics in it in any movie like that.

Which movie are you talking about? LOL!
The Haunted Mansion movie definately kept the feeling and the concept of The Haunted Mansion Ride even using the same music and even using scenes and Characters from the ride as did POTC. Like I said the Rap song was only played after the movie is over when the credits role up and any or all vulgarity is not in it.

The Cat wins with 10.4 million (estimated) on Friday, leading the field. Place goes to Gothica, while show goes to Elf.

Brother Bear finishes in 7th with 1.2 million.

OK, I just got back from seeing The cat in the hat and I have to say that I really liked it, yes there were a couple of innuendos I think that they should have left out, but over all a good movie, now that being said I loved The Haunted Mansion movie and brother bear more then Cat in the Hat, but The Cat is still a very good movie and I definately will see it again! :D

***Boy: This is just like a thrill ride!!!!!!

Cat in the Hat: You mean just like the ones you can ride at Universal!!!!(all saying this with Universal brochure in hand) ***

HAHAHA...That actually sounds really funny. I think imma rent this one, not go to the theaters though...

I meant to include this in my update...The Nelly Rap song is NOT on the sountrack...The soundtrack has the Jackson 5, Raven (thats so raven) and many older songs like that.

Btw, at the Disney theater, its still only $6.50 to get in. 11.50 for popcorn and a drink though:lol:

Saw the movie on Saturday and considering how great The Grinch was, this was a huge let down. The innuendo was frankly upsetting to me, but more than were interupted cuss words ('Son of a bi-eeeeep') and I agree with the statement of The Cat being 'child molester creepy'. I enjoy Mike for the first 45 minutes of the movie, but towards the end it got strange, preachy and frankly very dull. I personally think the funniest line in the entire movie is 'Chocolate Thun-Da and Ben'.

I don't really recommend this movie. Parents, if your kids are dying to see it, screen it first and make your own call. It seems more targeted for teens being that the script-writers don't realize kids will ask, 'Mom? Why did the Cat call that hoe and dirty hoe and then try to lick it?'

Final numbers are in.

The Cat doubled the number 2 film, Gothika, with $38.3 million.
Elf nearly finished in 2nd, with $18.7 mil, about 0.5 million behind Gothika.

BB finished with $5.3 million in 7th, bringing its gross to over $70 million.

I would think that The Cat is a major disappointment for Universal considering what it did last year with The Grinch, and the fact that it cost over $100 million to make, and reportedly had a near $100 million advertising budget.

I don`t get where The Cat is such a disapointment when it is #1 and It was only the first weekend,The cat has alot of time to recoop the money spent on it.

It's just going to get worse from here on out. It needed to have a bigger opening weekend than that.

This week marks the opening of

Haunted Mansion, Timeline, Bad Santa, and The Missing. Dec. 5 has The Last Samauri (Tom Cruise), the following weekend is Nicholson's latest, then its LOTR, followed by Cold Mountain.

With that release schedule, it will be out of the top fairly quick and won't make that much money. It will probaly lose 50% every week (maybe not this week).

It might break even after all is said and done, but considering what The Grinch did (opened with 55 million), the star of the movie, and competition, you still have to considered it a bust.

CITH on the surface is not a dissapointment. Garnering 38.3 miillion over one weekend is very good and many movies wish they could get there. What is disappointing about it is that it did not meet most expectations within the movie industry which were estimating an opening of 47-55 million earlier last week. Also, CITH made nearly 2 million less than Universal had estimated on Sunday after seeing Friday's (and to a lesser extent Saturday's) numbers. Making 10 -17 million less than expected is a little disappointing, but not meeting their estimate was no surprise to me (When Universal estimated 40.0, I knew they were just trying to make it look better when papers run the estimates the next day. It looks better to have your movie in the 40's than where it really was, the 30's. Especially when you are so close to the next "bracket". Every studio does this if they can. )

What is a little more alarming is the poor reviews CITH got and from what I can see, very bad word of mouth. Perhaps a reason why it didn't meet expectations. Look for CITH to have a difficult time next weekend if HM performs as well as many think it could/should.
