Has anyone encountered a cockroach in there room?

At the end of August last year we stayed in all-star music out in the boonies of the Country Inn, the farthest building. We had no problems with our room however the night before we left when we walked into our room there was a cockroach on the wall next to the door, I'm assuming it followed us in. It wasn't a big deal because we were able to easily push it out the door. But I hate all bugs, especially cockroaches.

I know they are common in the south so I am wondering if anyone else has had something like that happen and how you would handle it.

BTW 34 days for me! yayy:D (had to brighten up this post)

No big deal, as long as it's not a bunch of bugs you see.

With the tens of thousands of people using a hotel, some people are just nasty and will bring bugs/attract bugs. Even with proper on site pest control you can happen to see them.

I keep my house clean and sprayed and still see a spider once in awhile.

I've never seen a roach at WDW. If you don't mind me straying off-topic however, let me tell you about the giant water bug that literally grabbed onto my bare foot and tried to hitch a ride as we walked past the DVC pool at Wilderness Lodge on our last visit, returning from a swim in the main pool! I am a well-educated, rational woman. I'm not afraid of bugs or spiders or snakes or mice, etc., and I typically try to maintain my composure in public, particularly when walking my chubby self around in a swimsuit. Sucking in all the stuff I have to suck in, and protecting the public from unsightly jiggles, requires impeccable posture and concentration. However, when I saw (and felt!) that enormous, hideous beast on my foot, I started screaming like I was on fire and hopping around, jerking my leg furiously in the air (Did you know I can kick my feet above my shoulders? Now the people of Florida do!), wildly trying to "flick" it off. Thankfully it flew off after a few seconds of my "drunken Rockette" routine, but in the meantime I provided some spectacularly humorous entertainment for the dozens who were lounging poolside.

Not my photo, but this is what it looked like...

Sweet mother of pearl! I would have screamed like a 5 year old girl at a birthday party!

Welcome to Florida. Roaches are our state animal, or they should be. During the build of our house in Miami, my mother put roach pellets in all the outlets before the covers & drywall were installed, in the hopes of preventing an appearance. Still got the occasional bug.

Joke is they will be the only living creature to survive a nuclear war. You can step on one, hear the "crunch", lift up your foot and watch the bloody thing scurry off. The worst are the big ones that fly right at you as you spray them with Raid.

Never seen one in a Disney resort room. I am sure even with the constant pest control, they are still at Disney. And you might advertently bring them with you.

Most respectable hotels spray for bugs regularly. I have never seen a roach in a Disney hotel, but I must be honest with you, it doesn't mean that they haven't been there. Roaches can be elusive, and they multiply like rabbits. The weather in Florida welcomes the bug population more than it does the tourists. The boundary established by spraying doesn't guarantee that they're not in the walls, behind the baseboards, in the plumbing, etc.

Your best bet is to ignore the possibility of their presence, and kill them if they appear. How? Hair spray, magazine, BB gun, whatever...

And old fashioned shaving cream will dissolve one. Tried it and my drunk friends were correct. ;)

thanks for the tip! I would love to avoid using my shoe because that is gross! maybe I will just bring like raid or something, I just don't like the thought of that in my room!

Go ahead, step on it. I use a large fly swatter. Smush it and then fling it outside.

nope and i hope i never do. i am really afraid of bugs..... i have had a lizard like critter follow my friend and i into our room. i literally jumped on the bed while calling the front desk. a nice gentleman came and got him and let him free. we named it Mortimer lol :) it was the most interesting, it almost looked see through.

Sounds like a salamander - they are beautiful. And would probably eat any roach that wandered into your room. Which is why I don't kill spiders. They eat bugs. Along with the frogs and toads and lizards. I will shoo them out of my house, but I try not to kill the good arachnids and insects.

We had a palmetto bug appear on top of our TV when we stayed at All Stars Music last year. Had to get someone from pest control to come and get the thing out as it made a break for it down the back amongst the wiring!
