Has anyone encountered a cockroach in there room?

At the end of August last year we stayed in all-star music out in the boonies of the Country Inn, the farthest building. We had no problems with our room however the night before we left when we walked into our room there was a cockroach on the wall next to the door, I'm assuming it followed us in. It wasn't a big deal because we were able to easily push it out the door. But I hate all bugs, especially cockroaches.

I know they are common in the south so I am wondering if anyone else has had something like that happen and how you would handle it.

BTW 34 days for me! yayy:D (had to brighten up this post)

A palmetto bug is a type of species of cockroach. A cockroach by any other name is a cockroach, and they are all over Disney. We stayed at the POR last month in Oak Manor, and there were dead ones on the stairways and on the walkways.
They come in to feed and get water. Once they find a source, they usually come back to that source like ants.
They are so hard to stop because they are prolific breeders. If you have still water i.e. the manmade waterways at Disney, and you have bushes and trees and hot weather, you will have them. You can spray till your arm falls off, but if they need water, they will come into your room. There is just so much Disney can control. That still doesn't make me feel good when there is one right outside my door. I guess that's better than right inside my door. We saw several in the streets at HS this trip.
I did a quick search online to verify that they are a type of cockroach (I knew people would say I didn't know what I was talking about.) and found that they are kind of cockroach and that there is a huge problem with them this year because of the extreme heat and dry weather. You can easily check for yourself.
We live in Georgia, so this is nothing new to us. The best you can do is spray around you doors and windows with repellant, as opposed to insecticide and hope for the best.
I've never had one come in the room that I saw, but I've seen many outside the room. So hopefully, whatever Disney is using is keeping them mostly outside.
We stayed off property, at a nice place, and they had silverfish in the room. When I reported it, they offered to come up and kill them. I told them that I'd already done that.LOL I just wanted to know what they were.
She also offered that they don't bite. Well. That's good to know, now give me another room please.
We have occasional silverfish in our house (ew).:( We also have spiders and flies- oh my! LOL. Seriously though, the Disney resorts keep their hotels quite clean.

At PORS, there were quite a few "bugs" like maybe mosquito-like bugs, but they were attracted to the light. Sometimes they'd hang around the walls, but like most people have said, it's Florida!:) How about those May "love bugs" that smash on your car and eat up the paint? LOL.:D
Most deluxe resorts (inside entrances) don't have a "bug" problem. The others might I believe, especially in the hot summer, because you open your doors from the outside (especially when 1st putting your luggage away).;)

thanks for the in depth response. I am not sure if it was a palmetto bug or roach, when i hit it it did fly, thankfully out of our door lol I'm always hesitant to kill them because I am a Yankee and my understanding was always like you can't kill them! lol So my first reaction is not to mash it because I am afraid it won't die

I understand its Florida and it happens I was just wondering how other people handle it gosh. I never said it was this huge deal.

I obviously want suggestions what to do if I think its in my room.

I forgot to say that people here(AR) have told me not to kill them with your shoe because the other roaches can follow the gunk back to your house. I'm not quite sure how they could do that unless they know how to drive along with flying. OOOO maybe they latch on to the roof of my car for the 20 min drive home. Well, I don't step on them anyway because I'm screaming too loud to kill them.:D

I had seen one in my room at All Star Sports..in the bathroom..in the middle of the night. I'm from NY and know a roach when I see it. After a brief freak out, sent him on his own 20k ride and spoke to the front desk the next morning in case the rest of his party decided to join him. After describing the insect to the man at the desk, I was asked where I was from and then it was explained that although it looked like a roach to me, it was a Palmetto. Harmless and won't bother me. When I expressed my worry that there might be some kind of infestation, I was told that it usually comes from an open door from Mousekeeping and that his little friends won't be making a repeat performance.

thanks for the tip! I would love to avoid using my shoe because that is gross! maybe I will just bring like raid or something, I just don't like the thought of that in my room!

Every stay in Florida. It's a badge of courage. Yes they are huuge there even compared with NYC-sized cockroaches. There is not one trip, either on property or off, or staying at a rental or in someone's home. Every trip, involved spotting one in the room

Yuck- really? I mean a rock- that's nothing really. A used Q tip? Was all of this perhaps under the bed?

Actually everything was in plain site, even the rock:confused: ; except for the sock witch my kids found I don’t know were and I honestly don’t want to know. It gives me goosebumps, the fact that they touched it. This was a surprised, of all the resorts I stayed in on Disney property; I never had problems with cleanliness.

I haven't seen a roach yet, but we did find a large green frog in our room at POR last year. I think I posted a picture on here.

Just got back from the All Star Sports Resort last weekend and on the last night there saw something move in a pile of my daugther's laundry as we were packing up. I'm from Canada so took some online research to confirm what it was I'd killed - but it was definitely a cockroach. Made it easy to leave - I couldn't have stayed there another night. Got home and did 5 loads of laundry to wash absolutely everything we'd taken with us. Told the front desk at checkout and they said the duty manager would call me, but never heard from them. Tried email feedback to their website too and no reply there either. Just googled cockroaches in Disney to get an idea if this was a common problem (I've been many times before and never seen any bugs in the hotel rooms) since it certainly doesn't seem to be a concern to Disney staff.

The best pest control in the world won't make hotel rooms 100% insect free in Florida. In the vadt majority of cases it is simply a stray insect from outside that gets inside, and not a sign of any kind of infestation. Nothing Disney can do about it.

I've never seen a roach at WDW. If you don't mind me straying off-topic however, let me tell you about the giant water bug that literally grabbed onto my bare foot and tried to hitch a ride as we walked past the DVC pool at Wilderness Lodge on our last visit, returning from a swim in the main pool! I am a well-educated, rational woman. I'm not afraid of bugs or spiders or snakes or mice, etc., and I typically try to maintain my composure in public, particularly when walking my chubby self around in a swimsuit. Sucking in all the stuff I have to suck in, and protecting the public from unsightly jiggles, requires impeccable posture and concentration. However, when I saw (and felt!) that enormous, hideous beast on my foot, I started screaming like I was on fire and hopping around, jerking my leg furiously in the air (Did you know I can kick my feet above my shoulders? Now the people of Florida do!), wildly trying to "flick" it off. Thankfully it flew off after a few seconds of my "drunken Rockette" routine, but in the meantime I provided some spectacularly humorous entertainment for the dozens who were lounging poolside.

Not my photo, but this is what it looked like...

Yes, we had several cockroaches in our 1 bed-room BW villa 2 years ago and we were on the third floor. I kinda expect to see a few if you are on the first floor and leave the patio door open for any amount of time at night. We turned on the lights in the middle of the night and a bunch of them ran UNDER a chewed up corner of kitchen cabinet. It was our last night there and we complained to all who would listed the next morning. We were blown off by all.

My DW jumped about 10 feet and ran away the first time she encountered a gecko at the Polynesian. The only time I saw her run faster was after taking her colonoscopy preparation; but I digress.
