Has anyone else noticed that Harry Potter will be airing on the Disney channel. I understand it being on ABC, but not on the Disney Channel. I thought it was only going to be on ABC. What does Disney's rights to this franchise entail?

I'm not quite sure, but it seems they have exclusive American broadcast rights for the film...

Who knows, maybe they have more rights than just television broadcasting... :lookaroun

^ You insinuate too much;)

They have broadcast rights for the film. So, they can show it on any Disney owned channe. (ABC, ABC FAMILY, DISNEY CHANNEL).

They could even show it on ESPN, though I doubt that will go over well:lookaroun

Oh wait, it's the ABC Family Channel. Never mind!
It's still interesting to consider though.

I knew they owned the rights to show it, but that doesn't mean they should. Disney owns the rights to many family oriented television shows and movies that could be shown on the Disney channel, but they don't. Majority of the shows and movies that are currently on were created just for the disney channel. It seems like they are trying to force us to accept Harry Potter as a Disney Icon. They should just keep it to ABC and ABC family.

^ Why? Tons of non-disney movies are shown on Disney Channel. Why's Harry Potter the exception? I gurantee that the Disney executives noticed a large hole in the program line-up, and as a result, stuck in Harry Potter. I think you may be reading into things a tad too much.

"The Little Princess" (a non-Disney kid's film) is shown on Disney Channel.

but in this age... they should keep it to ABC and ABC Family.. (it is a christmas movie right... :lookaroun should have been shown after grinch.. hehe)

showing this would make some "touritst" think disney has the rights to the completely and want to visit the " attraction" at their parks.. (who owns those.. please not six flags..)

Yep... I was just about to say that.

BUT!:
I heard that they will be putting in a "Back to the Future II" ride where 20k used to be... but... It will be themed with Harry Potter... but Harry has traded in his broomstick for a DeLorean... and instead of catching the golden snitch... he has to catch Biff and stop him from changing the world for all Muggles. My imagineer friend Jon told me. :lookaroun

*heavy sarcasm*  :xmas:

What exactly am I reading into or insinuating? I just do not agree with it, and they have plenty to put in it's place. That's not a reason to do it. I'm not trying to insinuate anything. I believe it should stay on ABC and ABC family.

From this comment it seems that you think Disney is trying to associate the Disney name with Harry Potter. Personally, I think this is a bit of a stretch. I believe this assumption is hard to make. As nemo said, Disney channel plays Back to the Future sometimes. Not only is Back to the Future not a Disney movie, it has an attraction at a rival theme park. Therefore, I doubt that Disney executives are making a conscience desicion to make Harry Potter a "Disney Icon."

As I stated, there was a large program gap. Harry Potter is popular with kids, so as a result, they showed the movie. It was designed to get some ratings and nothing more.
