Just throwing this in the mix - O'Sentinel:

Potter crowds push Islands of Adventure to capacity

"Universal Orlando is ending a record-setting year on an unprecedented note.

Twice this week — Tuesday and Wednesday — the resort has had to suspend entrance to its Islands of Adventure theme park, as huge holiday crowds flock to the 6-month-old Wizarding World of Harry Potter.

It's the first time in Islands of Adventure's history that Universal has had to halt admission because the park had reached capacity. The theme park opened in 1999."

only took them what, 11 and half years to finally do that. I bet the employees at the front gate were wondering what this weird ringing sound was and the flashing lights.

Disney Princess franchise is what drives the bus from a revenue standpoint at the parks and Disney Consumer Products. That franchise alone is in the billions of dollars worldwide to the bottom line and that is only ONE franchise...not sure anyone is concerned about HP....it will raise the bar if anything. Let's wait and see how the Marvel franchises become incorporated into the mix from movies to park experiences to consumer products...I have a feeling it's going to be amazing.

This:
Is basically all I've been trying to say...

Same here. wwhp will only matter if ioa keeps its numbers up, if they fall back down then they will be losing money. uni needs to add more to ioa, it has always been its downfall being stuck with the same attractions for almost a decade.

The talks with Disney definitely resulted in Rowling conceding some things for Universal's benefit. They softened her up a bit.

Consider the capacity issues that exist right now, imagine if it was designed with even more throughput issues.

You mean entering one a time every minute? sounds cool, but not possible in anyway.

the princesses brand is huge and what drove alot of the success in the 90's. HP appeals to both sexes, something that princesses doesn't. marvel should cover that gap that now exists, it just matters when the marvel decade at wdw begins.

Heading for the great escape.
I still dont get the underlying issue its two media corporations not a team, anyone with half a brain would want all operators to be delivering top line experiences.

Though thats probably a bit rhetorical.

My 2011 plans are finally made... And for the first time EVER, I am not spending majority my time at Disney World's parks... I'll be there from Sept 30 to Oct 8.... 3 days planned for Disney Parks... 3 days planned for... Universal/IOA... arriving day will be a relaxer.... And I have another relaxer day in there... I don't know.. Is Wizarding World making a difference???

BTW, I easily convinced my friend to this schedule... And he is a major Disney nut...

Does everyone want to see Marvel and Disney characters, rides and shows at the same time in the same park.

Or is Marvel to be a 5th gate? Not sure how I feel about Spiderman and Tinkerbell showing up in the same shot. Will Marvel have their own space (at DHS maybe. Makes no sense to have them in EPCOT, but DHS I could see that. AK I feel is also out IMHO so that leaves MK but future plans are FLE for awhile. So DHS could be the place if any)

I can tell you this. For the first time in 8 - 9 years I took a day off from WDW and went to UNI and IOA. Enjoyed WWoHP very much.

With FREE Christmas parade at UNI.

also took a day to go to the wwohp when I went to Florida for 7 days. I was very impressed and the lines were all walk on all day because of the weather (it was like 30 degrees all day record lows!!! Dec. 8). I gotta say, having not been there in 5 years, I forgot how much I really liked everything in there park. I will probably go back again on my next trip. Hopefully, Disney will see that Universal is starting to get its act together, and it will make the BIG FLE expansion even that much better.

There have been a lot of threads discussing what Disney can and can't do with Marvel. Let's not let this thread turn into one of those. Long story short, Disney's going to try out Marvel overseas. Don't expect to see any Marvel at WDW until there is a change in the Uni deal. In other words, don't expect to see any Marvel at WDW for a long time.

Any appearances by them would be at DHS, just like how the only place that the power rangers were at was dhs. they won't be part of any mk parades because they usually only have disney characters.

I want to see what is on the books after FLE starts to be built. FLE covers female guests, what about male guests? The scope of the FLE expansion went into back lot areas, will disney do the same for another mk expansion? I would like to see a FL expansion that uses the land north of big thunder as long as it is not a poc land.

Not until the bean counters get fired..

Listen, you are not going to see major change until Disney has a DISNEY ATTITUDE AGAIN.. and that may not happen until the company plus a General Motors.. and takes a giant dive.

Disney is going to operate on the condition that people are coming, we can raise the rates, and no one is complaining.. much.. not enough to change anyone's minds in coporate HQ.

when, suddenly the crowds THIN OUT. and the parks stop being clean , and people get totally MAD,THEN and only then, will the bean counters be swept out the door.

but in the mean time its status quo.. which means Disney is slowly sinking.. you can't see it.. or hardly measure it. But it's like a freight train. it starts out slow.. and slowly builds up speed, TO THE POINT WHERE NO ONE CAN STOP IT..

its like the first leak in the Titanic.. you really don't notice or feel it.. until its TOO LATE..

and any good business man would tell you the same.. if you are standing still , you are going backwards.. and right now, truly,

DISNEY IS STANDING STILL and we are all watching it happen.

A gloomy take on the reality that is the Walt Disney Company today (specifically parks division/WDW). It's sad, but I think very true.

I know I try to be optimistic, as there are some glimmers of hope from time to time, but sometimes its just depressing.

I pretty much agree with what your saying, but I think the Titanic hit that iceberg pretty hard and everyone felt it. jes sayin... I liked the steam engine analogy better lol.
