Today, we celebrate our independence from Great Britain and our declaration as a free country. I thought it would be fun if we all stated our home states in honor of the holiday and our great country.

I'm sure most of you know I'm from the Golden State of California (mention the nickname of your state, if you know it!). Let's see if we can get all fifty states.:)

Not for another hour and 22 minutes we don't.;)

Born and raised in B-more, Maryland, commonly referred to as the Chesapeake state, Old Line State, or the Free State. Our flower is the black-eyed susan. We love our crabs. Known for them in fact. What you didn't know is that there are two main ways to pick a crab, one from B-more and one from the Eastern Shore. I pick mine like I'm from the Eastern Shore thanks to my mom's side of the family being from there. I find it to be a more effective method to pick. Most kids are picking their own crabs by 7 or 8 years old, some younger. We have lots of deer, so much so that they have stopped being a novelty so much as a nuisance, especially when driving. MD's state flag is the heraldic banner of George Calvert, 1st Baron Baltimore, and is the only state flag that has any roots to England left. MD was the seventh state to join the union and of course is one of the thirteen original colonies. Our capital is Annapolis but our most populous city is Baltimore. Our schools consistently rank high in the nation. We compete with Massachusetts for best schools in the country. Lacrosse is extremely popular here. I hate it. Babe Ruth and Cal Ripken Jr. were both born and raised in MD, as was Michael Phelps. The Orioles have a long heritage, having been here since 1954, and this is a baseball town, actually just a really close-knit, proud (but never boastful) community.

Also, Baltimore's football team won the Superbowl. Ya know, if you didn't already know that.;)

Peach state of Georgia chiming in. We have lots of Coke, a giant aquarium that dethroned the one at The Living Seas as the largest in the world, a college football team in Athens that routinely outdraws the pro teams in Atlanta, and from the southern end of the state where I live, it's just a few minutes to the beach or only 3 1/2 hours to Disney World. :D

Born just over the line in CT, but live in RI, the Ocean State ("Little Rhody") . We have the oldest 4th of July parade (from 1785) in Bristol and possibly the oddest 4th of July parade in Chepachet (the Ancient and Horribles Parade).Our founder, Roger Williams, is my great-great-great-great-great-great-great grandfather.

Well to start with..In 1776, America celebrated its Independance from the United Kingdom,not England..Now being a proud Scot and hoping that we get Independance from UK,I have been fortunate to visit 6 states in the good old USA..New York..Illinois..Vermont..California..Nevada..and of course Florida..My favourite is Florida.( for obvious reasons ) Happy Independance America..;)

I'm from Georgia also. We are almost 7 hours away from WDW.

Happy 4th everyone!

I'm from Illinois (the land of Lincoln). A state known for the city of Chicago, corrupt politics (unfortunately), our current president, and much more.

With many of you, I'll be celebrating our freedom today as well. I'm especially thankful for the sacrifices our forefathers made (even risking death), so that the groundwork of freedom could be set for us even today.
