Just because I have a tattoo on my face, bite ears off, and threaten to eat babies doesn't mean i'm crazy.

Now excuse me while I wash my money

I gave out all of my "tips" and special gifts BEFORE Christmas...except for the trash guys. Despite my long history of tipping them*, they've been blocking my car weekly with empty trash cans for the past year. NO COOKIES (or in this case, cash) FOR YOU!!!

*I was one of a handful of people who did this, and for years they rewarded me by tossing my empty cans into the fenced enclosure I have for them. They went from city to private employees last year, and things have deteriorated, at least for me.

Hey MOM, how much did you tip them in the past? My wife and I always argue about how much to tip the garbage men.

How do you tip the garbage men? In our city, garbage is collected for free from the city.

Not free...you pay taxes don't you?

Before we had a "garbage district" (paid for in taxes) we paid for pickup every quarter. Always the same crew so we just left a little envelope for them (taped to the cover of the garbage can...no it was never stolen). You could always get up at 4 am and wait for them to come by though.

And my sister in law who was born in Wales (her parents are from Belfast) celebrates Boxing Day with her family after celebrating Christmas with us.

Darth, I tape it to the inside of the garbage can. If you give them a good tip, you could leave a body at the curb and they'll take it.

  :lookaroun

The only problem I have is would they see the envelpoe and not just toss it into the garbage truck thinking it`s just part of the trash that got stuck to the lid. LOL!

Mark the envelope "Christmas $$$"...they'll find it.

(living next door to the guy who owns the "sanitation" company I can put anything on the curb & it magically disappears. :D )

When I lived in Homestead, FL many years ago, I always tipped the garbage guys and they too would take ANYTHING I left out by the curb. I threw out old roofing material, an 80 gallon water heater, a refrigerator, several washing machines, a stove and a small forest of trees and vegetation. They took it all without question.

When we had overnight guests (who drove older model cars), I had to put notes on their windshields to instruct the garbage guys, "This is not garbage".

There are 5 of them; 1 for recycling, 1 for yard trash, and 3 for garbage. I gave them $10 each. Not a whole lot, I know, but more than anyone else gave them. ;) They were city employees; now they work for an independent contractor. It's still paid by our property taxes.

I've been tipping them for years (I start trying to catch them about 3 weeks before Christmas; I'm up by 6AM anyway...trash is supposed to be out by the curb by 6AM on pick-up day)

Yesterday was recycling day. They started at my house at EXACTLY 6AM, (I put my stuff out at 6:05, and they just waved!) so I missed them, and will have to wait until next week to get rid of my stuff. I only have one small bin, since they BROKE my second one...which is one of the reasons I didn't tip them!!!...so I'll have to borrow my neighbor's extra one.

Looks like they've declared war.

The only tip I ever gave a garbage man was that Walmart was hiring!:zipit:

I have private garbage collection @ $30 a month...the guy can buy me 20 times over! I could leave him a bottle of booze but the SOB would probably drink it on the spot and knock my mailbox over with his truck.

Recyling guys?....when they learn that the friggin' bottles go IN the truck and NOT on the road, I'll give them something!

I tip my papergirl $20...she works hard.:)
