A bit surprised its based on the original film and not the successful remakes, but with that said I welcome the house as I’ve never had the opportunity to experience it.

I see that you guys don't get anywhere near as much info as we do over on Inside Universal, so let me enlighten ya'll a little:
  • No Stranger Things, Fear Street, or any Netflix properties this year.

  • Monsters is going into the old parade building (where Beetlejuice was), and Weeknd is going in the new parade building (where Hill House was).

  • There's five soundstage houses, three originals and two IP's (Halloween and the 'secret IP' (currently speculated to be Evil Dead)).

  • The MIB tent isn't being used this year. Blumhouse is going in the Supercharged queue, and Chupacabra is one of the soundstage houses.

Have the Frequent Fear passes been scrapped for this year or do we think they'll be quite a late release?

They took their sweet time releasing them last year. Probably waffling over pricing. I think there's far too many people interested in buying one for them to be scrapped. The event has a rather large fanbase, if you will, that would be quite incensed if they ever were. We're talking literal pitchforks at the park gates. The more realistic fear is people being priced out.

Word is Evil Dead Rise has been cut.
We spoke to a scare actor yesterday (we were @ Springs where she's also a third party CM) and mentioned we were surprised by how slowly the announcements are rolling out this year. She said to her knowledge at least three IPs had pulled out and Uni has been scrambling to replace them with original houses, which is why announcements have been so delayed. Usually I take what I hear from strangers w/ a grain of salt, but this definitely tallies with what we've been hearing so far. My friend asked which IPs pulled out and she wouldn't say, but looked very cagey when I guessed Evil Dead, which to me pretty much confirmed it lol

I'm thinking Netflix has also pulled out with Stranger Things and/or Fear Street. Definitely going to be an IP-lite year. The CM also said all scare zones this year are original concepts and that she's very excited for all of them!

Any idea why so many pulled out this year?

Too bad they can't do Army of Darkness instead. Universal is the film's US distributor and this year marks the film's 30th anniversary.

We're now 6 weeks out from the first night and set pieces and other parts of the scare zones are now visible in the park.

If they can't say more on the replacements, they can at least say something about the originals or the scare zones.

Let me catch ya'll up.

Evil Dead Rise's replacement is an original, rumored to be a sequel to 2004's Hellgate Prison.

Also, it is the only IP that got cut. We were going to get an even 5/5 split between IP's and originals, now it's 4/6 because of EDR dropping out.

And finally, we should be getting The Weeknd announced next week, then early August should be a crazy bang with everything else released.

Any news on Frequent Fear Passes?

And what if Bill and Ted returned for this year, would that make it for you?

Of course not. That's the old way. Gotta keep moving forward.

It's a 30-year-old event that has the same format every year. What ground did you want them to break?

I've been going since first year, I'm aware.

Format is one thing. House repeats and incredibly predictable, boring IPs are quite another.
