Haircuts & Venting

I need to vent.....ever since I found out that you can get a haircut at the Magic Kingdom, I have got one there each trip on our 1st day. When our kids were born, my wife and I insisted on getting their first haircuts there as well. My 4 year old got his cut again and insisted on getting matching cuts & colored gel as well. How can you say no! Anyways, we got our hair cut, are red Mickey heads on the back and some red gel up front to spike up our short hair. All the cast members we encountered were awesome, complementing on our new 'dos. My son loved it. This is were it went sour....

We were staying in the Boardwalk Villas and decided to take the Monorail back to Epcot to grab a bite to eat and quickly walk through the park. As we were walking past Canada, some jerk pointed out to my son and I & proceeded to make fun of our hair to his group. That's fine and all but when he swears and started referring to us both as ... (I don't think it's appropriate here or in the parks but I believe the term is used as a cigarette in Europe), that was enough. Whether the jerk was loaded doing a drink around the world or not, calling a 4 your old (or anyone) was uncalled for. My wife was trying to keep me going straight and away. When I turned & began walking toward him, this immuture moron got up and ran.

Not that I was going to do anything that would jeopardize me from getting booted out of the parks, but that really ticked me off. I've read in previous posts that unfortunately Disney cannot weed out the brain dead, but how do I explain to a four year old why people can be so rude & insensitive. Trust me, my mouth isn't clean by all means, but I do try to respect people around me, especially little ones.

I guess my point is that if you see someone with gooped up hair especially a child, ackowledge them positively. That was and is one of our highlites with each trip to the Magic Kingdom. Other than that, it was an awesome trip!!! the lady (Diane) that also happened to cut my one & half year old daughter's hair for the first time was awesome. She giggled the whole time!

Unfortunately there are jerks in this world and sometimes they get let into our World...

Typically they are yellow spined and only do what they do when in a group where they feel that they are protected.

Obviously you would not have done anything nasty to him, but even the thought of being scolded down for his terrible behavior was too much for this poor little wimp to contemplate, so he ran away.

To you I say this; carry on getting your hair cuts when in WDW, however you feel you want them and just explain to your son that you truely hope that he can learn from what he has seen and grow up to be a sensible young man and not a complete jerkoff like the moron he had to see that day.

It's what I tell my son and it's had the positive effect I intended so far. He just laughs off the idiots, knowing that their lives are probably heading in the wrong direction anyway.

I'm sorry to hear about this. :(
I hate it when people do things like this, because it just makes them look like the immature jerks that they really are, or even worse, that they aren't.
Anyways, I hope that everything goes well should you decide to get your hair cut in the parks again. :)

Aww. :(

I'd be so upset if someone made comments about either of my kids.

My son did the green gel and Mickey on the back when he was 4. It was so cute. :)

I agree, it is very sad when people don't have anything going for them in their lives so they try to ruin the fun for others.:brick:

Thanks everyone for the excellent advice. As soon as I can figure out how to post a photo of our hair cuts, I will! I will always get it cut there!

No problem. And the easiest way to post the photos would be to upload them to your photo album first and then put them on here probably.:)

Well said! I absolutely LOVE seeing matching men/son's haircuts with spikes and colors. To me, it represents a bonding moment for the child and father. When I see something like that, I always try to compliment the son on how great he looks and how he looks so grown up, just like his dad.

Please don't let some fool take that away from you.

They probably have never experienced bonding moments with their children like that, so they couldn't possibly comprehend. If I had to guess, your son will do the same with his child when he has them to carry on the tradition.

Once again, I will reiterate. DO NOT LET SOME FOOL LIKE THAT GET YOU DOWN. For every 1 fool like that, there are 100 people that look at it the way it was meant to be; a father and son kicking back and enjoying Disney together.

I think what you said is spot on...tell your son that some people can be rude and insensitive and that he shouldn't listen to that kind of negativity.

I am sure your hair cuts look so cute. I would have commented on how adorable it was, as I am sure most people did. My son would love to have that...maybe on this trip.:)

Yes, unfortunately there are jerks out there.

As other's have said, don't let one idiot ruin an awesome experience. In the grand scheme of things, what this one person says and thinks is irrelevant. Be sure to continue doing the things that make you happy at WDW. Do not let one bad experience ruin a bunch of good ones!!!

I'm sorry that some idiot didn't have anything better to do that day. I hope that you don't let it ruin the time you had with your son. I'm sure that he'll remember the times when you got your new "dos" together and not some idiot.

Wow that is horrible, I'm so sorry. :( People like that don't deserve to experience the Disney "magic".

It really is a shame that you have to come across so many people that have had too much during nights at EPCOT. Thankfully I've never seen anything quite as insensitive as you experienced, mostly just puking and general obnoxious behavior.

Yankees fan...do NOT ever let your kid walk into the bleacher section wearing an Orioles or Red Sox hat...you will hear far worse.....

As for those jerks, hey just know that your having a much better time than they are! If they go to Disneyworld and the best thing they can do is make fun of people, they must be very sad people.

Reminds me of when the family took our 70ish parents there a few years ago... they and we stood patiently waiting for the MK Parade, and as the first float was going by us, someone tried to shove their way to the front of the crowd. There is always one... lol

But I "set up" a Police Officer friend of mine a few years ago in the MK Barbershop - Maura was cutting his hair and I asked if she still had the special scissors and then told her his favorite color was blue. He had no idea what was going on until she sprinkled the pixie dust and showed him the back of his head in the mirror. We watch that video again and again and laugh and laugh!

Enjoy your good memories of the haircut!

I think you handled that spineless weenie perfectly, although it would have been more fun to snap him in half across your knee....:lookaroun

WDW is the most wonderful and magical place on Earth! I wish there was some sort of "be good to one another" juice or spray that could be administered to everyone while you get your bags checked at securtiy but unfortunatley there isn't and once in a while you have to deal with some unsettling situations. We had to deal with a very over tired and overheated, foul mouthed Granny that took her frustrations out on my daughter's Mickey balloon on our trip this past April! We can laugh about it now but boy did that stayed with me for a while. Do or say what you want about me but the minute you involve my child, look out!!

Again! Thanks for the positive responses. We will always get a haircut there, colored gel and all! My son's got a good head on his shoulders and understands that not everyone experiences Disney like we do, or most everyone on this site. I keep fumbling around with trying to get a photo on here........

I hate people sometimes.....the one thing I have always loved about going to Disney is that its not about the car your driving or the name brand of your shirt, its a place to be silly! My husband and I always laugh that our kids will get hats that they would NEVER EVER be caught dead wearing outside of Disney or Universal....my son will wear a huge birthday cake hat w/ light up candles but NEVER in "real life" Its the place to let your silly side out and not feel embarrassed about it.

You should post the pics! I for one would love to see them! :animwink:

I second that!!
