Here is the problem. You have Epcot which is just soaring and world showcase. Everything else there is old and out dated. You have Hollywood studios which is tower of terror , rocking roller coaster , Disney junior , muppets , star tours.

What do you do with these parks ?

I'm sorry but Universe of Energy should have gone 10 years ago . I love figment but the current ride is horrible. Honey I shrunk the audience and Jackson are old and dated. So you have to sections of the park that need updating. What do you have from Disney that is futuristic ? You have their marvel stuff . But most of it is tied up with universal's park. However you have Big Hero Six which is getting a sequel and you have GOTG which is getting a sequel plus the characters are going to be in the new Avengers movie and big a big part of the next phase . So IMO its a given that Guardians was coming to a park. It wont fit in Magic kingdom , Hollywood studios will have star wars for its sci fi. It also wouldn't fit at Animal Kingdom. So now you have a section that will be themed GOTG and Disney can sell all their marvel stuff there

I've been going to Disney since I was 3 way back in 84' . I loved the parks in the 90s in my teenage years. However those parks haven't existed in a long time. What's left in Epcot hasn't aged that well either. IF you want a largely unchanged experience just keep going to Magic Kingdom . As for Pirates , yes close it down put something else where it is and use an expansion space and put in a good pirates.

No ones arguing that (who's sane)

But how about original themes and storylines instead of knee jerk reactions resulting in shoving cross promotion IPs where they don't belong.

We are off topic!!!! But as long as we are discussing misuse of attractions names.... Here are some I have heard:

Fast Track.
Big Tinker Mountain.
Log ride
The Golf Ball
Really this could be its own very entertaining thread. Two weeks ago I was riding the Walt Disney World railroad and seated in the very last row of the very last car. The train was loading and unloading at the frontierland station. The family in front of me was looking at Splash Mountain on the map they had, and trying to figure out where it is. They didn't know whether they should get off at this stop :) From where we were we were seated we were literally still in the tunnel the train goes through Splash Mountain to get to the frontierland station. As I was thinking to myself, do I tell them they're practically IN Splash Mountain right now, they turned around and asked me what ride this train was. They weren't kidding. I told him it was the Walt Disney World Railroad and they confessed that they had it down to either that or Big Thunder Mountain Railroad. Point being it was a fresh reminder that not everybody knows these parts like we do.
The bigger issue is that Americans are mostly obese and uneducated. Everything is constantly spoon fed to us and is typically included with huge helpings of sugar(I mean that literally and figuratively). Each year as technology improves, we cut our efforts to learn. People no longer research their destination. With the knowledge that I have of the parks, I still spend time preparing for my trip. I try to learn as much as I can about the area I am going to. I will even spend time learning about spaces outside the parks should I need to venture past the limits of WDW. I try to learn as much as I can on every trip I go on. Google maps are my friend. My guess is that our society is no longer taught to think this way anymore.

The bigger issue is that Americans by and large are fat and dumb. Everything is spoon fed to us with huge helpings of sugar (I mean that literally and figuratively). Every year the technology gets smarter, we have to think less to a point were we don't even bother finding out. Nobody researches their trips anymore. Even as much as I know about the parks, I still spend a good amount of time learning about what I can or can't do, should or shouldn't do and even learning about other aspects outside the park in case I need something while there. I can't possibly know everything about the parks either. I do this where ever I go. Google maps to get a lay of hte land, understand what is within driving and walking distance, what the names are of everything in my surrounding (for the most part) so I can ask the appropriate question to a local. I'm guessing that nobody thinks to or is taught to do any of this type of stuff anymore.
Yikes, you must be a joy.

I'm guessing you are guilty of all that I mentioned above, other wise you wouldn't have responded.

I've never met TJ so not sure if he (not even sure it is a he...see there's proof I've never met him...her??) and TJ may be dumb as a bag of bricks and large as a beached beluga whale however when you start your post by calling Americans fat and dumb I do think most people may have an objection or two. Perhaps when you look into the mirror montyz you may not be happy with the way you look..or that your post is full of grammatical errors, i.e "Every year the technology gets smarter, we have to think less to a point were we don't even bother finding out." Dumb indeed.

Boy, I did NOT choose a good time to peek into this discussion.

Speaking of personal insults, it's a bit sad that 90% of the comments on the Guardians announcement video are people going on about Rohde's ear. I may not be happy with his current assignment at all, but the guy deserves respect. If anything in that video was unsightly, it was seeing the Hollywood Tower facade covered in ugly pipes and lights in an attempt to create a vague "sci-fi" look.

My two cents... Long time lurker... OK, so like that finally it appears that Disney is going to use the fantastic IP that the Marvel universe can represent. My problem is the cohesiveness of this ugly façade on the ToT, with the Red Car Trolley, a wonderful component of the desire to male this park cohesive, passing right in front.

Marvel, as well as the LucasFilm properties do not deserve a 'shoe horning' approach in the existing parks. These properties, with the width and breadth of what they deliver, are best served in their own separate gate... Then, you can really not care about theming or anything...

Of course, that would cost a lot more $$ than is presently earmarked for these projects.

The first time I rode the DHS ToT (after many times riding the DCA version) I was blown away by the setting- climbing the park like hill(really captures that Hollywood Hills feeling) is so much better than walking by the Hyperion Theater's Outdoor "Lobby". But the 5th Dimension room was especially thrilling(I didn't know it did that) and well being in an "elevator" that moves horizontally really throws you off! For myself I don't have a sentimental attachment to the California version, and I am more worried about how the exterior design will fit in/stand out with the park. But my 11 year old son was devastated...the DCA ToT was the first ride he remembers growing tall enough to ride. I really feel for him, I told him If you are going to be a true die-hard Disneyland(WDW, Disney Park, etc.) fan you will get your heart broken eventually when they finally remove, replace, remodel, your cherished childhood memories....and there will always be someone to tell you to get over it or it's no big deal, but you go ahead and feel whatever you want to feel.

Personally I'd consider that a complete waste of time. Why should I spend days of research to have to know every weird name of some amusement park I'm going to visit? It's a theme park, not a six month hike through unexplored Amazonia.

Also, I think us knowing all the names of every Disney ride on the planet by heart qualifies us as modern dumb first world man. Rather than the ones who didn't spend their time studying Disney. ;)

Pessimism! Cynicism! I have not seen Guardians of the Galaxy, and ToT is my favorite ride in all of WDW. The ToT in DCA offers some thrills but is lacking a great ride element. I fail to see how Disney investing heavily in this attraction and making it the keystone of a new Marvel land is a bad thing. As a park, DCA is thematically incoherent and ToT is in an unfortunate location where it currently serves no purpose. The future Disneyland Resort will have lands for all of the company's major properties--Star Wars, Marvel, and Pixar. I love The Twilight Zone dearly but it is a CBS property that is irrelevant to most parkgoers. DCA will finally have a tangible identity as a Marvel / Pixar park. The Disney company is going through a second renaissance right now and the quality of most everything they're putting out is superb. This overlay is going to do wonders for both ToT and DCA.

I agree, there are just areas that need to change and the second or third or fourth age are the perfect locations for that.
My first trip to Disneyland was at the age of three and even before that I have pictures of my Mom pregnant with me and enjoying the park. This was 1968 and I still go and still have a pass.

I enjoy every bit of it and have always looked forward to change.
The original park has gone thru many changes some good and some bad but I don't feel that it has ever lost its main core of existence which is to entertain families.
I'm not too upset about Star Wars being added yes I would have liked it in a third gate better but adding it to the back of the park in what was mostly unused guest area I think works and I think once it opens the amount of creative work that goes into it will look amazing.

As for DCA, I actually enjoyed the park when it open eventhough it lacked charm and felt unfinished. Was very excited to have been able to walk thru it during construction and even then felt like they had gone the wrong direction.
Then the change came and it slowly brought some life to it and the change was for the better.
Never cared for TOT being added it felt rushed and its location terrible. Always felt that if they needed to add it there were other locations it would have fit with a different theming.
Now that the park has gotten some love I still walk thru Hollywood land and think what a waste of property this corner is. One major attraction that appeals to thrill seekers along with several shows that shut down early and a dark ride that sits empty most of the time.
If this change to the tower is the beginning of adding value to that corner of the property then go for it.
The same goes for Epcot, the park that has been mocked for being boring and now has more real estate with aging attractions and abondoned buildings. WDI has always been great in finding ways to make things fit in the overall scheme of things. I'm more bother with things like monsters laugh factory in tomorrowland than I would be with guardians in future world

Perhaps, as sad as this is to say, TWDC needs to use the IP in the title of its attractions because it is accounting for the genetic ability of its average park guest.

Technical and budgetary.

The deletion of the Fifth Dimension scene is the equivalent to deleting the canon battle scene of Pirates. Fortunately, this was not deleted in Florida.

Hey @marni1971 -- Would the deletion of the Fifth Dimension scene in Tower Gen2 have anything to do with the original tower's Fifth Dimension design having mirrors on the floor and ceiling?

Did it *ever* correctly function with the mirrors?

Is the placement of the now-removed-mirrors why the lights are sideways in the Fifth Dimension?
