Guardians Tower announcement Saturday in SD ...

It was, in fact, before Ellen. I have a deep appreciation for Energy because I know what it tried to achieve. Spaceship Earth presents a historical narrative. Universe of Energy, however, presents fundamental of physical science.

I should probably mention that it is my aspiration to be a director of audience research and evaluation at an aquarium or science center.
Are you telling me, that Epcot has rides that can make you learn and think about science and history?

Multiple people reporting that the crowd booed upon the announcement. Seems my wish came true (despite the protests of others on this board haha).
Lol. Really not surprised.
I'm actually excited for this. WDW keeps Tower (the better version anyways) and now I get to do a different version at DCA.
If it's open by D23 I'll be there to experience it myself. Right now I'm just laughing about how something so crazy turned out true. Considering the sources I still believed it was happening but it's different seeing the announcement.

Also am I the only one who was completely surprised by the actual pronunciation of "Feige?"
Looks like a mighty big shoehorn being used for this.
After seeing this info for DCA, which to me looks like an utterly ugly mess, Im very concerned about a form of this in Epcot. I realize its going to be a different concept in terms of the actual ride, but I bet the story line isn't too different.
I don't think they can use The Collector though since he's apparently tied heavily to The Avengers. We may be getting something completely different which is why our Tower is safe.

Thank god for Universal and that contract saving our beloved Tower!!! :D
Pray for Epcot. This is terrible and I sincerely believe that whatever is planned for Epcot will be worse. Remember those height test balloons from a few day ago? :depressed:
Oh no...
Lets be thankful that TDO fought this from happening at our Tower, I know theres the issue of Epcot still, but at least the beautiful interiors and surroundings of tower of terror at DHS appear safe from this mess.

The main problem lies not with the closures, but in what is replacing them.

Most members of this discussion board want thoughtful placemaking and exquisite show.
Exactly. Universe of Energy is a perfect example because I think we all can agree it needs an update. What we don't all agree on is the update being Guardians of the Galaxy.

What are sight lines like for this? Can't ToT be seen from pretty much every land? Who wants to see an ugly industrial monstrosity from Buena vista street, or walking in from grizzly peak? Yuck what a mess. Destroys the Trolley stop too. They've just run out of creativity, man.

Sight lines, bah Its surrounded by the city. Always will be.

Creativity? Yes, I think there is a fear to stretch the highly touted "imagineering"

Trolly? It will be retro, steampunkish, a throwback to an earlier time - just like it is now - if it remains. The Collector collects many things, why not a trolly and its track? Use YOUR imagination. ;)

I'm just hoping the original and most grand Tower of Terror isn't going to be touched. I have faith it won't be.

And though there are too many variables to ever know for sure, I believe that this will cause no bump in attendance or spending at the resort.

That short timeline worries me more than anything. It seems like a very cheap overlay rather than something like Maelstrom to Frozen.

So, while I have faith in Joe Rohde, I can't say it's impressive until we see the final product.

It's not that we don't care before, it just isn't anything to discuss. And many times, it's so rediculous to even think about whatever ride being overlayed or replaced that there's no worry until we hear the rumor.

Nobody talks every day about how they love the Statue of Liberty, but if the government announced that they were replacing it with, let's say, a Statue of Leia, people would rightfully be up in arms.

It seems like the most extensive work will be the facade and queue. So, screens the rest of the way would keep the budget down.

What I'd hope for is a full gut, like Frozestrom.
But with that timeline they'd have to work around the clock.

Not exactly. By the sounds of it whatever is happening to UoE is much more extensive than this would've been. I'm guessing it's a combination of the rides use of The Collector and the fact that DHS just couldn't afford to take ToT offline.
One problem at a time.

Oh come on now, it ties in perfectly. They can go to Knowhere and we can learn about all the rare natural resources. It could work!

Funny, I thought the same thing.

So if they wanted to call it Burger Tower and put a giant hamburger on top it wouldn't matter because there is a city outside the gates? It must matter what the aesthetic of the tallest attraction at Disneyland actually is, right?
The trolley could roll through bugs land if it wanted. I'm glad it doesn't because it wouldn't make thematic sense. When you say use your imagination you're taking an anything goes attitude that makes thematic place making and environmental storytelling less artistic and far more commercial than it has to, something Disney used to understand.

Well Near the heart of the visual experience is the queue and the facade. Both are less than DHS, so something more expansive would be nice. Once you're in the buggy its literally "smoke and mirrors" and darkness, one can't really theme darkness
