This is legit because Guardians of the Galaxy does not contain any characters in the Avengers family, X-Men family or Spiderman family. Universal has rights to those characters, but not other Marvel characters. For the most part, Universal has access to the characters that the public knows.
Thank you

You are correct that
The Movie version of GOTG do not contain any characters of Avengers, Fantastic Four, or Spider-Man.
The Comic book version does contain Vemon a spider- man friend / villian that was in one of the spider-man movie. The female Captain Marvel was one time the leader of the Avengers. Tony Stark ( Iron Man) join the team for several months. GOTG leader Starlord is dating Kitty Pride of the X-Men ( the same character in the xmen book and movies). finally a former GOTG member Angela is gonna be reveal as Thor sister. Drax is father of MoonDragon (Avenger).
So while the movie version will contain no mention of the Avenger / X-men/ Spider-man or the members GOTG origins, Each Members of GOTG has connections to all Marvel Family in the printed books.

Not quite vacant. Was packed last month, must have something going on there.
Oh I think it will do well. I personally love the trailer and all the Marvel movies from the past 3 years or so. Zoe Saldana, Chris Pratt, and Bradley Cooper all have their fans as well not even counting Marvel fanboys. It may suffer from coming out in August though.
James Gunn wrote and directed this film. He also made one of my favorite horror comedies ever, Slither, and the exceedingly creative Super. I have faith he's the right guy to make this ridiculous premise somehow work.

He also did The Specials, a film about goofball, d-list superheroes that I loved. My friends didn't care for it, but I think that's because they were expecting a straight-out superhero film and not a comedy that happened to be about superheroes. Hopefully, he becomes one of the few directors that Marvel Studios doesn't chew up and spit out after one film.

that was something new added in the new version.
last volume they never had such combinations.

Infact the original team was pretty different. (compared to the movie)

Groot talked fully for example.

anyway.. original team post-annihilation:
Star Lord, Groot, Rocket Raccoon, Mantis, Love Bug, Gabriel (Uni Power wielder) and Deathcry (Shi'Ar)

Then evolved into another team as some members got killed (Gabriel and Deathcry) or left (bug).

For example, during the Universal Church saga (War of Kings saga)

It was: Star Lord, Rocket, Groot, Gamora, Drax, Adam Warlock, Mantis (not very active) , Moondragon, Phyla Veil and Cosmo.
Then added Major Victory and Jack Flag and then Bug again.

They also teamed constantly with other groups, like NOVA PRIME (NOVA) and QUASAR during the epic Cancerverse Saga.

Only in the new iteration they added Avengers (Iron man and then Venom) and multiuniverse displaced creatures ( Angela )
and briefly teamed with the X-men to rescue Jean grey.

Him and Whedon. If Marvel screws Whedon, they deserve whatever hell they have coming.

Well, they already have Whedon filming Avengers 2 as we speak, so unless they REALLY screw up, he's tied with Favreau as director of the most Marvel Studios films.

I'm not sure if Universal would make any fuss like they did with the monorail wrap. The monorail wrap featured characters that are not only inside Universal's theme park, but used in their promotions. I can see why they wouldn't want other companies showing off these characters. Guardians of the Galaxy isn't quite in the same situation, so this will be more interesting to watch.

The only potential link that I can think of between the two sets of characters is Thanos, but clearly Disney feels that Thanos link with The Avengers isn't enough to make the Guardians part of The Avenger's family. They could also say that the whole "Honorary Avengers" thing suggests that they are not a real part of the family. Now, if Thanos is part of the preview, that will be interesting and would be pushing it.

Then again, for all we know, Disney got Universal's permission to show the preview. Universal is owned by Comcast and it's not good to upset a company that owns a pretty good amount of strong cable channels. If it's good for business, things happen and sometimes they don't really make sense. It's not too hard to picture Disney letting Comcast executives watch the preview and then sign off on it.

Either way, I'm impressed with Disney for pushing for this in some sort of way. I doubt they worked anything out with Universal, but if they did, it probably wouldn't land in the tabloids since it's just a movie preview. I can only assume that Disney knows what they're doing and did their homework.

If only Favreau wasn't all full of himself, he's fine as a director, but at least Josh doesn't give himself roles in his films and shows.

Similarly, Comcast probably would not want to tick off a major content provider like Disney.

Neither party should off the other, considering:

  1. Disney owns the most watched collection of channels (ESPN) on cable.
  2. Comcast is the largest provider of network and cable entertainment in the United States.
Neither party holds all the cards.

And personally, I'd love to see Disney knocked down a peg because of ESPN.

To be fair, a lot of directors who've also acted do that. Rewatch the Cable Guy- not only does Ben Stiller have a bit part, but all his buddies before they got famous are in it too. Jack Black, Luke Wilson, Janeane Garofalo, etc.

Allegedly? Rubbish. Its pretty obvious Disney has a legal team who actually know what the "contract" does and does not state. Anyone making claims otherwise is obviously lying. Just the thought of a billion dollar corporation "hoping" they don't get caught is completely laughable. I cant believe people are so gullible.
The Luxo lamp people would have a very different opinion on how smart TWDC is regarding what they can and cannot do.

Disney pushing the limits again I see...

First the monorail wraps, now this? What's next...Marvel Meet N Greets at the park entrances?
Personally, I hope they screw up and Comcast sues the pants off of them. I think that'd be funny.
