That said, here's a good video of the new ride from start to finish!

SPOILER ALERT:
I never thought I'd say this, but I think it's hysterical when the raccoon says "Oh, crap." Just like I think it's time for the Blue Bayou to start serving wine with dinner, I think it's okay that a Disney character says something like that. Within the proper context of course, but this is the proper context. And it's funny!

Apologies to all the ToT fans in the house, but to me that looks so much better than ToT!

That said, there's nothing Halloween about this update at all. Considering how quickly they were able to update the storyline I hope they continue to do these little revisions throughout the year.

Meanwhile, the project manager over at Expedition Everest just got some great ideas to explain away a few things.

Now that we've had a chance to take inventory of all the D23 DP&R announcements there's no doubt in my mind which US destination is the top priority for Disney right now.

In retrospect (actually I was thinking this even as the event was happening) DP&R likely felt that without a commitment to a Marvel expansion the announcements at D23 were weighted too heavily for WDW and decided to throw a bone to DLR with a last minute reveal of some half baked stuff WDI was working on for Paradise Pier. They made a mistake not in announcing it, but in giving it a definitive timeline. The summer '18 completion date sounded fishy from the start, but we'll see.
WDW has always been the flagship since the resort opened. It sucks but it's the truth; Iger and co care more about the bigger resort. Disneyland is kind of the underdog in that respect.

From 2001 to around 2014 it seemed that DLR was a bigger priority for investment than WDW. The seesaw is tipping towards Florida at the moment. At some point things will likely shift again.

Before then (most of the 80s-90s) it was obvious that WDW was the priority. Disneyland was mostly neglected until the 90s when bigger investment came, then it dropped off around 2000 when investment returned to WDW.

Maybe it's an investment-distribution thing, pamper WDW for a bit then switch to DL then switch to WDW. I dunno.

Needless to say there are many factors that impact business decisions. When was the last time OLC made any significant investments in either of the Tokyo parks prior to the FLE announcement? Seems like HKDL and SDL are getting the most attention in Asia right now.

At least one comic fan site is claiming that the GoTG show will be updated regularly to include Easter eggs for upcoming Marvel releases.

"The Marvel-themed ride in Disney's California Adventure is going to be constantly updating to include new characters and features, and the latest change has added the devastating Surtur, one of the villainous creatures in Thor: Ragnarok."

Chapek using Disneyland to cheaply promote the latest Disney distributed film is not a surprise in the slightest

Where have you been? That's the main reason why the parks exist today. It's been headed this way since the latter part of Eisner's term, and Iger has only doubled down on the strategy. Guests are eating it up.

Indeed. Walt did it all the time.

I remember when Walt replaced Peter Pan's Flight with One Hundred and One Dalmatians. Also a big fan of Marc Davis's famous Treasure Island boat ride in New Orleans Square. Lest we forget the wonderful The Absent Minded Professor overlay for Monsanto's Hall of Chemistry in Tomorrowland.

They should have made the absent minded professor host the Hall of Chemistry. Disney just didn't think that way until the '90s.

My sources say that, as of Summer 2018, Monsters After Dark will receive a Pixar-themed "Monsters Inc. After Dark" overlay! Featuring such easter eggs as Lightning McMonster and Mater Monster, and the biggest, most terrifying monster of all: The Drunken Lasse-monster, fresh from a night at Trader Sam's and holding the limited-edition Drunken Lasse-monster sipper, now available at Disney Parks!
