I mentioned months ago that my fear was that this overlay was going to be mostly addition by subtraction. I guess I was right. The fact that they are just painting over the windows has confirmed my fears.

Not as if they needed to be confirmed. But I think this is a pretty great example of addition by subtraction.

Controversial opinion: I don't care about the back side of the building. At all. It's not visible from anywhere in the park and Harbor Blvd traffic has been looking at an ugly backside of TOT for 13 years. The back of Cars Land is ugly too.

Can't the side be seen from inside of the park? The side that appears to be facing Bugs land?

Look at the backside of Everest. It makes Mission Breakout look like Cinderella Castle in comparison.

Then paint it "Look-away-gray" to clearly communicate that this is "backstage". But if you're going to theme it at all, do it right.

If it doesn't face guests in the park, it doesn't need to be themed. The back of the building is themed at the same level it was as TOT. Harbor Blvd doesn't need a fully themed backside of TOT/GOTG.

No, if it were themed at the same level as TOT was, then they would have selected a different shade of color for the paint on the windows to acknowledge their presence. Like they did when it was TOT.

Somewhat IIRC, but not enough to be a big deal.

It's just another example of how this is a cheap rush job. It's the tallest structure at the resort and that side of the building can be seen from inside of the park. The way I look at it is like this, if every decision for future lands or attractions was made with the same disregard to its surroundings, it would slowly be the end of Disneyland as we know it. The end of what separates Disney from the rest. The fact that the widows are painted is not a huge deal but it is tacky. So they may be able to get a pass on this rush job to meet their synergy goals but this has to be the exception, not the rule. Thankfully I think it is and it's just an unfortunate series of events that led to TOTs demise.

EDIT: I'm not just referring to the windows. I'm referring to the whole building and project in general.

Really? So if I'm standing in Bugs Land, Cars land or paradise pier I can't see the side of the building? It's hard to believe but Im open to being wrong. Vantage points from inside the park is not my strong suit.

That was referring to Expedition Everest, which is what your post was quoting.

I think the back of the building is better than what was there before.

I highly doubt they literally painted over the windows. They obviously used something to make them blend in with the surrounding paint color. But paint a window, I highly doubt it.

Sorry, I can't get on board for rage at the backside of GOTG.

Now if the front of the building turns out ugly, I will be not pleased. It's not looking great so far.

For me the windows are just another example or reminder.

No the front is not looking great so far. I prefer the side and back, painted windows and all.
